Pouring Concrete With Kushlan 600DD Cement Mixer

- We are putting the Kushlan 600DD to the test! We are pouring about 24 bags of 80 lb Quikrete to build a 4'x4'x3.5' A/C condenser pad, and also a 3.5'x3.5'x3.5' propane tank pad. Kushlan is not a sponsor, and this is an honest review for the consumer that's thinking about purchasing a cement mixer.
The Kushlan 3.5 Cu. Ft. have the same motor (3/4 HP) as the Kushlan 6.0 Cu. Ft. The one we decided to get was the 600DD model because you can mix more concrete.

:) 80# bags use to kick my butt. Until I got smarter than the bag: put a 4 x 4 piece of plywood on the ground. Dump the bag on the plywood and shovel it into the mixer. Back has liked me ever since.
I got smarter when my son turned 16 🤣

I have the same mixer and use one of those large black mixing tubs in front. drop the bag and use a shovel to split the bag and then shovel it in the mixer. It still sucks but trying to dump the bags in a spinning mixer is awful. Im about to bite the bullet and buy the new mudmixer type.

since that mixer is so short, i think i would mix the cement in the back of your truck and make a plywood "slide" so you could tip the mixer and have the cement slide down to where you need it.
That's a good idea. I would also need to wrap my truck with plastic on the bed area and tailgate to prevent spillage sticking to it. I'm thinking of building a jig for it... maybe a future project.
How difficult was it to move the mixer close to the form after having mixed 4 bags of concrete? Nice video. I’m thinking about buying one of these.
The difficult part was trying to not waste any concrete by lifting it and getting it close to the forms. The first badge I did was kind of far away from the forms. So I had to push/drag it close to the forms so that I could pour. After moving it close enough to the forms and started mixing the concrete, it went faster for me. The lifting part was not bad at all. I'm probably going to build some sort of jig to elevated enough to pour into a wheelbarrow. But that just depends if I ever need to take the concrete to one point to another a little faster.

The more interesting part is that I'm not even being monetized for ads since I don't have 1k subscribers yet. I believe they sent an email late or earlier this year about the new changes. Before the changes, only creators that had 1k subscribers and over were allowed to get ads for monetization, but not anymore. Google adds ads anywhere and everywhere during a video. 🤷🏻♂️
How many gallons or water did did you start out with? Looked a lot like you put almost the whole 5 gallons in there. Step five: looks a little watery, oh well just don’t add water this time! Forget directions! Lol it’s funny but I honestly have never read directions when mixing concrete. I’ve has concrete soupy as hell, in the rain, and it still set and turned out just fine! You literally can’t screw it up!
I agree. You can't ever add too much water as water is the key to strong concrete. I found out that when you add more water than the instructions, you won't have concrete stuck to the bottom of the container as much. But whatever floats your boat 😆.
Not True.. you honestly don’t know what you are talking about. you weaken the PSI strength of the concrete. Thank Biden for millions more common over in 3 years that don’t understand anything about construction.
How many minutes did it take to mix each batch(4bags)?
Also, i bought the same mixer used. Do you think this mixer can mix fast enough to do a 11×10?
I would just look inside of it to make sure everything was mixing well with the correct "consistency." Usually about 2 to 3 minutes until it looked well mixed. As far as the 11x10 goes and assuming that those measurements are in feet, I would do it in maybe 3 sections. That's if you're also talking about using 2"x6". If you're using 2"x4," then I would do it in two separate sections at a time.

I’m new to all this. Why didn’t you put a gravel bed down first and compact it? I didn’t realize you could put concrete directly onto dirt.
Adding gravel under a slab is beneficial when you're pouring a large concrete pad to prevent drainage, settlement cracks, and leveling the area in some US areas. This small of a job is just a waste of time and money, IMO. I could have poured a 3.5" concrete pad, and it'll still have been fine. It's been over a year since I poured this small pad, and it's still standing strong. In most of the areas in the south and specifically in my area, you'll hardly see compacting due to clay. When I did my driveway at my other place that I used to own, I rented a compactor to compact the dirt down before adding the gravel on top. I was not able to compact anything down except for the gravel. The contractors that brought in the "select fill" for my current home was actually mostly clay to level out the area. As far as drainage goes, the concrete pad is sitting on an inclined area. Most of the foundations that I've seen poured around here, they hardly add gravel underneath. The only thing that I've seen that they do is add a vapor barrier to prevent sipping water from going to the inside structure (e.g. house). This may not be the case for the northern part of the US. If you watch any video here on UA-cam, you'll see that most professional companies don't add gravel when pouring sidewalks. Most of them will compact the dirt, but this may be because they bring in their special dirt that's able to be compacted. I'm also not a concrete professional since I'm just a DIYer, but what I do like to do is my homework before attempting anything 😅. Hope this helps!
