Expedition 64 Soyuz Commander Sergey Ryzhikov of Roscosmos and Flight Engineers Sergey Kud-Sverchkov of Roscosmos and Kate Rubins of NASA arrived at the International Space Station Oct. 14, docking their spacecraft to the Rassvet module on the Russian segment of the complex. They completed the three-hour journey after launching earlier in the day in their Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. A few hours after docking, Ryzhikov, Kud-Sverchkov and Rubins opened hatches between the two spacecraft and were greeted by station Commander Chris Cassidy of NASA and Flight Engineers Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner of Roscosmos.

If I were a U.S astronaut , I’d be totally stoked about getting to ride up in the Soyuz. Not many American astronauts are going to get to do that in the future .. it’s also such a classic vehicle....

Soyuz was way ahead of its time. It’s so amazing. I think space x has got the Soyuz a run for its money though, I hope they bring back the US/Russian competition in space.

I have a question- does the whole propulsion rocket separates after reaching some altitude and falls on the earth after that? which means this is all for one-time usage (except of course the Soyuz capsule itself) and needs to be manufactured again for the next mission? Or is there any part that remains operational?

The budget of NASA and the Pentagon is 35 times larger than the budget of Roscosmos and the Russian Ministry of Defense. With such a budget, NASA and the Pentagon should have had bases on Mars and moved beyond the Asteroid belt long ago. So no. A burnt-out Dragon - 2 capsule that can't land on land, but only plop into the ocean-that's all NASA has for this huge amount of money. Where is the money? Where is the hypersound? Where are the nuclear space engines? I think the level of corruption in the US is 35 times higher than in Russia.

The Soyuz spacecraft flew to the ISS in 3 hours, and the SpaceX Crew Dragon in 19 hours.
Why fly so fast? Firstly, it will make flights cheaper - there will be no need for the work of several dozen specialists who do not crawl out for days from the Flight Control Center. In addition, it will benefit the astronauts - getting used to weightlessness is much better to endure in the spacious compartments of the ISS than in a cramped spacecraft, but even this is not the main thing.
The main thing is that this method of flying will be useful in the near future, when new orbital stations appear. And if now cosmonauts have nowhere to wait for help, then in the near future it will be possible to create an emergency rocket, requiring only refueling and calculation. And within a few hours, specialists can arrive at the orbital station to provide assistance .

This was the last contracted seat on Soyuz that Nasa paid for.
I believe they will evaluate that contract at a later date when they know what is going on long term with SpaceX.
There is a Crew-1 (Dragon launch) in Early November with 4 Astronauts, and Crew-2 in March / April next year, again with 4 crew. That is why Roscosmos is pissy with Elon. Not to mention, Tom Cruise and a Producer going to the ISS sometime next year to film for a future movie, Production has set aside around $250 million.
