@@sportsnut198 nope, soyuz spacecraft is now established as very reliable vehicle, it is used many many times to transport human into ISS. I wouldn't be scared if I'm one lol. This machine has enormous amount of safety features and I guarantee it's almost impossible to die if there's some problem.

What you're actually referring to are the g-forces. Here on the ground, we consistently feel 1 g. Free-fall is 0 g. In essence, orbit is a free-fall around the Earth, so the astronauts feel 0 g while they're in orbit. That's why they experience weightlessness.

Because the design of Soyuz is different from what you're imagining. Soyuz crew are inside the module during launch.. they're in closed space compartment.. The module or the cockpit is very intact inside the rocket itself. While the NASA space shuttle is separately attached on a gas tank outside with two rocket boosters that's why the shaking and vibration is much worse during launch.

That actually doesn't have anything to do with space. It's just the moment the centrifugal force of the rocket orbiting around earth is "canceling" the earth's gravitational force. Same applies for the ISS.

Am I the only one impressed by how smooth the ride seems to be? I mean, barely any vibration even immediately after liftoff, it's like they're in a private jet. Russia really has these machines polished to perfection.

Much of that Cold War era technology is still impressive today, an American example would be the retired SR-71. It wasn't all success for the Soviets though. Keep in mind the Soyuz, an unbelievably reliable machine and a relic of a bygone era, was preceded by the N1 rocket which was a massive money sink that never completed a successful test because of catastrophic failures. You fail enough and you learn from it.

Russian voice is saying routine things flight control center usually says during launch. Charlie Hobaugh's voice was very calm even in the most tragic seconds of the space shuttle Columbia 107 re-entry in 2003.
They use it to indicate that they are in microgravity because they're strapped into their seats and can't really tell otherwise by intuition but rather instrumentation.
I’m a noob when it comes to space/astronomy in general. I just recently got into it after completing an astronomy course in school. When i learned about the Columbia and Challenger incidents my heart stopped. I was taken aback when I learned about those horrific tragedies. . To think about the suffering those astronauts experienced along with their families breaks my heart. 😰 Makes me feel happy to see these guys make it up there safely as it’s definitely not an easy, and not always safe task ❤️

Few words about The Stick. Upon landing all seats automatically switches in another position and central seat becomes closer to buttons - not for comfortable clicking, but for more safer landing. In other stages that position (closer to buttons) not optimal for crew. From 70's such design still works pretty well.

Anyone surprised by how smooth the launch is? I was expecting a more violent look inside the cabin. After all, they reaching thousands of miles in speed in just a couple of seconds
Last week I saw the ISS for the first time in an _unplanned_ viewing. I've gone out to see it a few times when I knew it was going to be going past, but this was the first time I'd seen it by chance, zipping past the Moon and Jupiter. It was brighter than I've ever seen it, which made me rush to a tracker just to make sure it was actually the station passing overhead. I still get excited by seeing these things.
Utterly fantastic! If only we'd had today's tech in 1969 and been able to see the moon landing in quality video. I'm proud to say I'm a citizen of EARTH!
It makes no sense just how smooth that ride looks. Compared to the Space Shuttle launches and even the recent Dragon launches, you cant even tell they are being on a rocket at all

@Branden Ao You mean the R7 semiorka rocket! The Soyuz is the name of the space ship capsule.. The R7 is Koroliev's rocket, an ICBM built in the late 50's. And what you just saw in 2019 is almost the same rocket, only upgraded of course. Only the payload is different 😉

Comparing to Dragon, Soyuz looks like a goods train while Dragon is a business class flight.
Because that's what the soyuz is actually used for, a cheap ferry module that carries 3 crew and a significant amount of cargo at the same time.

They use it to indicate that they are in microgravity because they're strapped into their seats and can't really tell otherwise by intuition but rather instrumentation.
I’m a noob when it comes to space/astronomy in general. I just recently got into it after completing an astronomy course in school. When i learned about the Columbia and Challenger incidents my heart stopped. I was taken aback when I learned about those horrific tragedies. . To think about the suffering those astronauts experienced along with their families breaks my heart. 😰 Makes me feel happy to see these guys make it up there safely as it’s definitely not an easy, and not always safe task ❤️

Few words about The Stick. Upon landing all seats automatically switches in another position and central seat becomes closer to buttons - not for comfortable clicking, but for more safer landing. In other stages that position (closer to buttons) not optimal for crew. From 70's such design still works pretty well.

Last week I saw the ISS for the first time in an _unplanned_ viewing. I've gone out to see it a few times when I knew it was going to be going past, but this was the first time I'd seen it by chance, zipping past the Moon and Jupiter. It was brighter than I've ever seen it, which made me rush to a tracker just to make sure it was actually the station passing overhead. I still get excited by seeing these things.

It makes no sense just how smooth that ride looks. Compared to the Space Shuttle launches and even the recent Dragon launches, you cant even tell they are being on a rocket at all

The R7 is Koroliev's rocket, an ICBM built in the late 50's. And what you just saw in 2019 is almost the same rocket, only upgraded of course. Only the payload is different 😉
