- The well-known "new old-time tune" written by Jay Ungar, in honor of his music and dance camp in the Catskills Mountains, and then adopted by Ken Burns for his famous PBS Civil War series. Today I dedicate this to my mother's neighbor, Brian, moving after living there next to her since a wee baby 64 years ago. Best wishes for happiness and fun in your new home, Brian!
Now I know why I have so little talent 😉👍👍. You obviously took it all, Janet 😢. Lovely, lovely version. I’ve got 19” on you, so maybe I should look at getting a Cello Banjo so my banjo looks normal sized 😉😆😆😆
The cello banjo is pretty big. To get that low there are alternatives to the CB, but I couldn't resist one as I played cello in school. Thanks for the kind words -- you're silly!
this is the best clawhammer version of the piece i have ever heard...it captures all the subtle beauty of the song...while keeping the rhythm ...any chance i could get tabs...cj!!!
Thanks. My email is janetburton13@gmail.com Send me yours and I'll get it to you -- no charge, just fun to share.
Absolutely perfect
Lovely tune,
Go, Janet!👍
How did I miss this great version. Thanks, Janet for posting the tab. My banjo,is only 12” LOL. Sounds so marvellous on your cello banjo.
Thanks much. What an incredible composition by Jay Ungar and it likes clawhammer banjo. 14" is plenty big, isn't it!
Beautiful...
Now that is wonderful!!
Really enjoyed this! Thank you.
Thanks! It's nice to hear you say this.
Thanks for the reply. Your tab is much appreciated!
Lovely job Janet.
Thanks, much!
I really enjoy your playing, Janet. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful music.
My pleasure, truly! If you want tab I have it and would just need your email. Mine is janetburton13@gmail.com
Great, thank you!
You're so welcome. I sent you two tabs to try. Enjoy!
beautiful arrangement, janet - speaks very nicely on the cello. looking forward to learning this one!
Thanks, Kevin. These pretty tunes are so fun to play and worth the effort of practicing them.
Janet, either you're really tiny, or that banjo rim is huge! What size is that? And of course I love your playing.
Ha ha. Both. A cello banjo is 14". And I'm nearly 5'. I used to play cello, so it seemed natural to get a banjo in that range.
Glad you liked it! I'm playing in open G tuning.
This is beautiful! Are you playing in open G?
Amazing rendition. do you ha e a tab posted anywhere? Would this be open g in a standar scale banjo?
Thank you! Here is a link to the tab on my site www.mybanjoworld.com: docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/52786a_9af7e8e8c3b54dc1bcfa5c0ab9ade974.pdf If you have trouble downloading it, email me at janetburton13@gmail.com and I'll send it to you. It's in standard G on a standard banjo and uses a chordal approach.
That is so great. Thanks! I hope you keep adding to your site. It really is a gem!
Beautiful!! Would it be possible to get a tab for this? I see your note below but feel a bit funny about emailing you without your permission. Thanks!!
Email me at janetburton13@gmail.com I enjoy sharing my tabs.
