I've restored a few of these and still have 3 sitting in my workshop. I completely repainted one, painted the keyboard and mouse to match, and it ended up pretty good. Anytime you can prevent something from becoming another piece of E-Waste it's a good thing.
I am still using this computer and I am very happy with it. Of course, I had to replace several electrolytic capacitors, both on the motherboard and the power supply, upgrade the cpu to the maximum allowed (E6700), ram to the maximum allowed (4GB), and of course ssd. The result was a computer that is running cool, silent, and quite fast. For those interested, there is an affordable (10 Euros) add-on card (by HP) that gives DVI output, and you can connect it to any HDMI monitor or TV.
That's very cool. But I have older version of this pc model, it's HP DC5100. Mas support Ram only 3.12GB although it has 4 slot and im already put a 6 gb ram to it and it not working well haha. But Im so happy to use it as my office pc :D

These core 2 duo machines still run surprisingly well with a modern OS. They also just refuse to die. You can swap parts in and out all day long and it just keeps going.
Actually, this is not a Core2Duo, it is an older dual core Pentium E5700, but you are right. I've scrap built a couple of rigs with Core2Duos, loaded them with RAM to their limit and added a 25,00 euros SSD each. Also bought a 5,50 euros Windows 10 pro license and gave them to some fellows that I new could not afford to buy new ones, and to this day they are still thanking me. They work like a charm as long as you don't expect to play Fortnite at ultra settings lol.
@@johnphilippatos Exactly. For office work, these are set, especially when hooked up to a lower-resolution display. Cleaning, thermal paste, an SSD, and even putting in a cheap USB WiFi adapter can really bring these machines back to life.

But I guess that these machines would come out in many different compositions. Or perhaps someone may have already changed the CPU. Everything is possible.
You can get the top notch core 2 duos very cheap,like the e8500 or so with more than 3.3 GHz all the time, not only when the tdp allows it. I think those were also capabl of running with quad cores.
What this lacks on production values you more than make up for it with a very thorough job and I think the video is better for it. This is the exact kind of videos I want to see when I’m stressed. Subscribed.
i had one of these i used with a few added nics with pfsense on an ssd which made a great little router and firewall....liked it so much i bought a later quad core version to use as an ubuntu nas for a while....these are great lil workhorses for sure!!!
Don't do it. The website is in violation of Microsoft's TOU and TOA by acquiring a license key / agreement and selling keys for cheap. Once they find out that this is happening, your key will be invalidated. I see this all the time; it's going to screw you over eventually.
My friend, you made a really good work, but it should be better to upgrade it with 4 or 8 gb of DDR2 rams that doesn't cost a lot and a better supported cpu. You should also tried the lightweight modded versions of Windows 10 (light or ultralight version), without lots of features that are overweight the pc performance.

Just fixed the same PC, was so slow it cannot run any software. I ended up changing the processor from a Celeron G1820 to a dual 2 core duo, added 4gb ram and an SSD disc. Now it runs pretty nice to be honest.
This one is a LOT more than ten years old. I have one with the P4 3.0GHz HT CPU, it is from 2005-2006. HP changed the case design so a ten year old computer (in 2022) looks a LOT different. I ran Xubuntu on mine until they quit supporting 32 bit CPUs, I haven't turned it on in a couple of years but I would have to guess that even Windows 7 would be a problem on it.
As you correctly guessed, this is a mid 2000s machine, 2007 judging from the optical drive date, so it's 16 yr old now, soon to be 17, and 15 when this video was shot. A decade old HP model would be for instance an Elite 8300 from the 3rd gen i3/i5/i7 era. I have 3 of them in my storage space, real bargains if you know where to get them.
Max out the ram, higher ssd and get highest possible processor compatible. While you're at it, a low profile videocard and blueray burner should make that thing fly.
Actually on most of these older computers, "upgrading" to windows 10 is a downgrade; W10 takes more resources than previous OS's so i it would be performing way worse, the right install would be A) the final version of the original OS (in this case Windows XP), B) In case of doubt install windows 7 C) just install Linux Mint or Lubuntu.
@@Rainbow__cookie Many of these old computers still run DDR2 memory, and that means usually being limited to max 8GB of ram (if you are lucky enough to find 4Gb sticks and your mobo is only two dimm slots, which is usually the case if you are buying prebuilds for lowcost pc solutions like this video), so even if you ad an SSD, due to low cache on the CPU and many other optimization problems found on W8, 10 and 11, installing any of those OS's (or certain linux distros) will make any hardware upgrade you make pointless, i've ran socket 775 mobos, with Xeon's X5460 thanks to bios modding overclocked at 4.2ghz and more, with 8GB of ram and installing anything newer than W7, or newer ubuntu like distros just smashes all performance, you wont even be able to watch 720p videos at 30fps without major hiccups or "lag", the solution is just not going past W7, or if you use linux sticking to light distros like Linux Mint, Lubuntu, or Manjaro with KDE plasma.

Overall great work,it looks almost like new,but i'd replace that hard drive with an SSD. Windows 10 is painfully slow on mechanical drives. I have a lot of these at my work and i'm the one that maintains or fixes them,it's a real pain waiting for those drives to load something
I had one of these a few years ago. I didn't like it that much. The power supply was specific to these. You couldn't just drop any power supply in there. And you could only use half height GPUs.

I bought HP and it didn't work. I took it back and exchanged it for another, and it died the next day. I took it back and got an IBM PS/2 and it was the best computer I ever owned. I take it all back. It wasn't HP, it was Packard Bell. Now I remember - other people had issues with Packard Bell, too.
Suprise ! I dont think 20 yrs old pc can run a 5 yrs old os. The beep at the start is a beep of ram issues or hdd maybe. For the windows 11 upgrade, if you want to you can update the hdd to ssd with the 2.5 ver or a nvme converter. The CD drive can also be a place for u to add a additional hdd.
Since he didn't upgrade the RAM to 4 Gigs (which is quite a mistake if you are to revive this old horse), 32bit OS run better with lower RAM. 64bit OS is ideal, but it will be too slow on 2Gigs only. That said, if you want to keep using it, 4GB and Win 10Pro x64 is a must.

e-series or that exact model of E5700 is still capable as of this days im still using that model of desktop pc w/ 8gig of ram and still very useful, you should have used a older model like the pentium D of that small form factor desktop

This PC is 32 bit architecture so it can only support maximum ram UpTo 4GB and it supports ddr3 ram.

Use an Android OS as an option instead. Upgrade the memory and use a 500 GB solid state drive as those options.
