The red accents are third rail shoes which actually could not be used in Connecticut because third rail is outlawed in the state so they would only be used for Grand Central. I believe they only ran in Connecticut on diesel power and there may have been a pantograph, but I don't think so
those red details on the trucks are the 3rd rail shoes for operation at grand central station, and any other place that may have electricity on a 3rd rail :)
If you are going to start n scale reviews you would be filling a huge gap that would be appreciated by many. If the review is short and to the point with sound demos, that works for me.
I dont have alot of room for layout so N makes alot of sense for me,and with all the advancements in sound and DCC im very curious so see how the locos sound before i commit to N scale,Otherwise i will be doing a smaller HO scale because the sound effects just add so much depth in the hobby
That was the only prototype locomotive I've ever rid on in the cab in Grand Central Station several times. A friend of mine worked there. Was a Supervisor. So, I'd go upstate with him on this locomotive, Still had the NH logo, With Conrail painted over it. Still was never completely painted for yrs. I recall the rush I got on the cab when it went into the tunnel Or, The G Forces. Was scary a bit, till I got use to it. Never forgot those experiences. back in the mid 70;s and 90's. PS, I hear the cab man announce when they're going on diesel power and off the third rail electric.
nice N scale review, I was surprised at the price, pretty close to the same HO scale price, and I base a lot of my purchases off of your reviews, so I myself like the longer reviews, some times it ia a lot of money for these products and it's nice to know what it is all about, thanks James, for the reviews and the help in your earlier video
To date I've done 6 N scale reviews as compared to over 450 total videos. I would call that pretty rare William, that's just me though. Thanks for watching.
Didn't know Rapido made the FL9 for N scale. Beautiful engine. The red accent on the trucks is supposed to represent the electrical pickups I think? Not sure about the red accent on the top of the engine. Great review, I want one. It's on my get list!
The red on the top is a catanary pickup. They would later be removed in the late 60s when outside rail became more prominent and diesel fuel became generally cleaner. Also yes the red on the trucks are pickup shoes. Also a side note, unlike the model, the last axle isn't actually driven by the motors. It's just there to bare the extra weight by the electric motor and capacitors on the end of the extended body
great video!!
nice looking engine and a huge amount of detail in such a small package.

The first two units had DC pantographs because of third rail breaks in between switches in the park ave tunnel

Tony Fleetwood note the DC pantograph on the rear
I love your videos especially the BNSF review in ho scale
Thanks!
I own two of the first run third rail shoe on roof for GCT and third rail shoes on trucks
I love you layout dude.
I like both long and short reviews!
nice too see more n scale reviews good work.

It's funny that the best we have in the form of reviews come from HO channels.

That horn sounds like a steam whistle
hey james, I'm surprise you haven't thought about installing a dual gauge track on part of your layout?
Yeah thats not my thing...a seperate small layout would be good.
took you long enough! I reviewed this months ago!
Ha!
Thanks for the N scale review. Your layout looks great.
Perhaps the perspective but it looked like the engine was sitting high at the nose.

I LOVE THE NEW HAVEN RR

The FL9s didn't have horns. They had a Hancock 4710 air whistle, that "loudspeaker-looking" thing above the windshields
I Have two and they always derail, wheels our in perfect gauge
that will be Kool too.
The jerkiness may be that it needs to be broken in a bit. I have one and it is smooth at slow speed.
You ever want to sell it hit me up! I want those 3 coaches and that engine. 👍
Reviews should be short & to the point.
Motors don't seem as smooth as Kato's. Lots of herky, jerky motion.
