I tried it out. I had two refillables that work just fine as is. But I have two that do not. I used their technique on the two that did not work. Guess what? They work now. I'm going to buy more tomrow. I almost both a non-Keurig machine to avoid all the hassle. Keurig is not an evil corporate. Rather, they almost had a 2.0 in my next garage sale in favor of a Walmart brewer ($20). Thanks for your help.
There is an easier way. Simply take a piece of the lavender foil label with the Keurig logo and tape it to the rectangular optic reader. This is a one time install and eliminates the need for multiple steps.
There's an easier one-time hack. Instead of having to place the "good" cover over the bad ones each time, just reach up and pull down the gasket around the pin. Take the "good" cap and insert it so that the pin goes through the hole already in the cap. It may take some fidgeting to get it right. Then, replace the gasket. Just did this yesterday and it works like a champ.
Use a Brew and Save Brand carafe size refilable filter for the kurig 2.0 for single serve or pots it works and it gives you all the brewing options of the machine. cost about 8$ at wallmart plus you can use off brand kurig cups with it all you do is put the off brand k-cup in the machine close it open it it pokes the bottom and top hole place the k-cup in the Brew and Save Carafe size refilable filter close and brew using any brew option the machine offers. it works i have a 2.0 k300 model brand new and this works!
I had an Elite Keurig for 2 years. It was a dream. Keurig made a cup that you could purchase so you could use your own coffee. I had a choice which I thought was awesome. If I was in a hurry, I would use the Keurig brand cups in the maker, but if it was a Saturday I would brew my own coffee in their authorized cup. I loved the option. Eventually, the elite quit working after two years. I used it everyday so it was time to get a new one. I noticed the Newer Elite Keurigs were cheaply made and to my disappointment. So, I decided to step it up to a 2.0. without ever researching online. I assumed that I would be able to use my own coffee. Why wouldn't I? I could with my other Keurig. Again to my disappointment, I quickly discovered that you couldn't. I called them and they said they don't plan on making a cup so you could brew your own. I remembered the only cups available were the unauthorized red K -Cups and their version wasn't available anymore. I think its super greedy of them. I guess I'll return it. I did try this method to use my own coffee but I think I'm just going to boycott the product. Just for the principle of them changing their ways and trying to Monopolize the public.
Here is my thoughts on this.. the refillable cup she is using is available on Amazon for $14.95 each. You will need to purchase several these or you will be constantly emptying and washing the refillable cup every time you need to make one cup of coffee. (The red cup has a gold metal mesh screen inside that holds the coffee grounds.) Filling up this tiny cup and you could spill coffee grounds everywhere. Is it worth all the hassle to save money and make one cup of coffee? What's the use. You are defeating the purpose. Why not make a half-a-pot of coffee in your regular coffee maker? I own a Keurig 550 2.0 and love it. One thing you must understand is that it is a gourmet coffee maker. The coffee is a little expensive but it brews a great cup of coffee! You can choose from over 250 different varieties including pumpkin spice. I retained my old Black and Decker drip coffee maker to make the cheaper coffee but I still use my 2.0 when I want a good cup of gourmet coffee at home and when entertaining friends. I plan on using it for our annual Christmas dinner this month when all of our relatives come in from out-of-state. Yes, the system can be hacked. But is it worth the hassle?
Worst defense of a product ever! I DO understand it is a gourmet coffee maker but there are plenty of gourmet coffees that are not available in "K-Cup" that are better than what is available with DRM. So to answer your last question: YES, it is worth every penny saved.
Wow showing how much i've been paying attention.. I didn't buy a Keurig for the very reason it had drm... The first thing I heard about this hack is a story on CNN! Off to amazon to buy a keurig...
So why is the price of Keurig coming down and hiking the price of the K-cups? Some printers came down to $39.oo but ink was up to $79 for black and colour?
That is how they make their money. They'll sell you the hardware real cheap and sometimes at a loss but it will make up for it by selling the accessories which have a huge profit margin. Just like Sony and their Playstations. They actually lose money on each PlayStation sold but make it up from licensing on the games.
The DRM system reads florescent ink in the ring/circle on the 'approved' pods. The foil lid/label can be removed and taped over the hole (squared off one) on the upper left side of the top. You only need a small part of the gray ring. Or position it on any non approve pod at the 7-11 o'clock position and it will read. SOme have used a florescent yellow marker and a plain white sheet of paper and strong tape to make their own hack.
I use a refillable cup without any modifications. It works great. I sometimes use my 2.0 for just hot water. I love the carafe. It's not that big of a deal to me. I love it. As far as greed....I don't blame them at all. Its just the way it is.
Glad to see someone else tried the hack i came up with using the hot glue gun on the reusable k cup! :) though trim a little bit more off that lip and it will close easier! :) Yes crafts and kids equal hot glue gun. I dont have kids but hot glue guns make life easier sometimes for certain projects :)
I do not have to cut off the lid for mine I reprogram the computer in it. So it works for any cuppa coffee. I should make a UA-cam video how to reprogram you k cup 2.0
You don't need to glue the whole ring on the red solo fill cup. Just glue a part of it where the machine reads the label. The label will peel off if done carefully. It only needs to read the Keurig Brewed and the coffee cup image. So a small piece of it will do.
...as an ex engineer for Keurig Green Mountain, the reason for the 2.0 is that people were using these crappy k-cups and then calling us all the time telling us that our machine was broken, clogged, we owed them a new machine, the taste wasn't what it used to be, etc.
I bought a Keurig Vue 1200. it wouldn't let me use my own coffee grounds in the K-Cup. I called the company where I bought the machine because the 2 in 1 K-Cup came with it. While I was waiting for them to call me back, I don't know why but I decided to get the basket wet, put my coffee grounds in and it Worked. I make sure the basket is wet each time and there are no problems one month later so far. In the mean time the company called back and I told them what I did and they said that's what the company said to do.
what about the Carafe Lid. It would be hard to reuse one of those. They aren't gonna make a way for us to use our own coffee anymore. how would one hack the Vue Carafe? or the Vue Cup.
San Fran Coffee co has made a "freedom clip" that snaps into the rectangular box. The clip has the special ink that the machine looks for. Yay. That's bad ass.
Wow, I'll look for an easier solution. By the time I go through this time consuming hassle, I could have brewed a whole pot in an old school percolator!
I use both a reusable and regular one time pods. I hate drinking the same thing over amd over so i buy a box of pods. Though others in my family use the resuable. My keurig is older so i dont need the hack but i understand both of this 2.0 as a cash grab and the reason keurig made this.
I don't think anyone spending $150-$200 on a coffee maker is THAT worried about a few dollars. the whole point of keurig is the convince, so you don't have to mess around with measuring and making a mess in the morning. however if you are that worried just buy a $20 coffee maker.
How eager would the authors be to pay an invoice for an additional sum from Green Mountain for not using their Keurig 2.0 machines according to the terms to which they agreed at purchase? If one party believes it should be at liberty to unilaterally revise the terms of the agreement to whatever they prefer, why shouldn't the other? The legitimate remedy is not to buy the Keurig machine - not to buy it, and then try to circumvent some of the features on which its pricing is based. Shame on the people, especially those who set examples for future generations.
Really. I use a sharpie pen, or black ink pen, and draw a thin line around the top edge of the k cup. Don't even have to go all the way around! Way less work!
www.gourmet-coffee.com/Keurig-DRM-Freedom-Clip.html Just request a Freedom Clip from the Rogers Family Coffee company. Not only is it less stupidly time consuming, it also ensures that you are not accidentally ingesting glue.
Good hack but I have a feeling that hot glue somewhat plugged the needle thus the failure to brew in your vid. You're right, should of let the glue dry longer:) LOL
What's so unacceptable about the decades old drip coffee makers? You decide what type of coffee to use, how much. The K-cup coffees are for suckers!!!! While it's better to use refillable K-cups, you would still have to shell out a couple of hundred dollars for a poorly designed and poorly made Keurig machine!!! (they are made in China - a country now synonymous with "the worst quality / reliability" for pretty much everything it manufactures.
Everyone say it with me: Personal Choice Good, Heavy Handed Capitalism Bad! Give me value not restricted choice!!! Down with Keurig, Down with Keurig, Down with Keurig!!! Seriously, they could have done so much more with this technology like make a machine that is capable of optimizing brew temperature, steep time, flow rate, etc and then partnering with the best coffee makers in the world to get the optimal settings for each brew and encoding that information on the lid to make the machine "OPTIONALLY" brew a better cup. This would have brought value added to the customer. Instead they angered their customer base by forcing premium prices! What the $^# are they thinking??? Boycott the check mark!!!! If they can't continue to innovate, they deserve no business share! Hack EVERY Keurig! Google Freedom Clip!!!!!
You totally took the convenience out of making coffee. Just try a different reusable Kcup brand, try the Dollar tree brand, they worked in the machine at my office. Here is another Simple solution folks, don't but that machine!!!! YOU GOTTA DEFEAT KEURIG???? No way in hell would that routine jack up my morning like that. Use a regular coffee pot and set the automatic timer people. You look like idiots trying to outsmart a company that charged you over $200 to rack your brain trying to save money only to waste your time. Put a dollar value on your time, looks like you just paid more than you would have just using a the Kcup you didn't want to pay for. By the way, I drank two cups of coffee watching you make this video. It was not a clever hack, it was a terrible waste of time, yours and mine! Also, I bet that hot glue addsva ready flavor you can't but in a box for fifteen bucks. Don't think it doesn't melt with that heat under there and merge into your coffee. Maybe you should have tried cramming that go pack up into the needle on the machine, would have been a better hack, no glue. I'm sorry but this video pisses me off on so many levels. I see four year olds get more creative with tinker toys. I'm just going to stop now, wow.
Do I get to comment now? Damn. How stupid this UA-cam stuff has gotten just to comment. Okay. This video on how to defeat Keurig's money grab when using a reusable cup is the best one. It gives a permanant method of doing it and you don't have to don surgical garb to make it happen. To the guy who thinks we lose our minds over buying it because our friends have one then turn around and want to save on the K-cups. Keurig's does not indicate on the outside of the box that there is any restrictions on what K-cups you can and can not use in the machine. It is only when you get it home and set up that you get let in on that. Now, I got one of these because my son and I live alone but I am the only coffee drinker. A one cup maker works well and I do nit need to be drinking a whole pot myself each day. But I do still need a means to make a pot for more than one person, like when my brother and his friend came over. It was a pain to make 3 cups separately. So there you have it. It's not crazy. It is common sense. What is not common sense is Keurig's trying to make us buy THEIR K-cups exclusively. They had to know that people would find a way around it and the company would not get a big increase in sales. If anything, once word gets around people will resist buying one or just circumvent the system. So really Keurig's shot themselves in the foot by creating the system to recognize the Special K-cups but will not trap anyone. I love American ingenuity.
Rediscover Film I researched the Bunn My Cafe MCU and although overall it has good reviews , there are a few customers that say that model leaks. Probably just a fluke. There are a few bad seeds in production , even Keurig. Now if you prefer this particular model I can understand. You have a right to your opinion. But I can't justify a coffee machine being that expensive.Personally I love Keurig machines just like many other people do.I have two of them. I'm thinking of getting the 2.0 but I'm not quite sold yet.
You think $150 is expensive? Is that a reference to the BUNN? You realize the Keurig 2.0 is more expensive right? The base model is $150 and they go up to $200. That is a rip off, since you already are getting screwed by coffee DRM. Keurig just wants more money. #greed
Rediscover Film $150? Who said anything about $150? At Wal-Mart the Keurig 2.0 is $140.00 and anyone can get a new adapter called the "Freedom Clip" for free which allows you to use ANY K-cup. And it's free! The BUNN My Cafe MCU is not carried at Wal-Mart but E-Bay has it for $176.00. I can see why the Keurig 2.0 is unique because it's the only coffee machine I know of that can brew either a cafe or single cup.Sorry man but I just don't see anything special about BUNN. But you are right that Keurig is being greedy about their 2.0 . It has a lot of people upset. But I could be totally wrong about Bunn. Please explain why you think BUNN is better. I'm trying to keep an open mind.
Thanks for posting this! With the introduction of version 2 cups Keurig and Green Mountain should be boycotted and put out of business - as well as all their partners! There is nothing worse than corporate greed. Now only the huge players can get a Keurig "pedigree" to market their products, and Keurig charges them plenty to play! Consumers and small business get screwed. As one of many small, local coffee roasters, I will be hung out to dry, and my customers will be forced to drink overpriced, intentionally stale coffee! Boycott these losers and buy a generic coffee machine - support local business! www.berwickcoffee.com/
I'm so sick of videos like this...hack this hack that. How about if you can't afford to purchase K-CUPS don't buy the damn Keurig. Or finish your old K-CUPS with your old machine, before purchasing the new machine. Simple as that. I did my research before buying one. Who has time to do all of that. I want to grab my cup and go out the door in the morning, not even up something to use a old K-CUP. Smh to each is on....
Hot gluing an foul top into an item that will Hold an edible or consumable food is really not a good idea. It's going to lead to leaching and eventual poisoning. Think it over. Hun you've got kids. M. Il.
Apocalypse 111 You idiot!!!! It wasn't about not being able to afford k cups... these models weren't compatible with refillable K-cup pods... That way people can use their preferred coffee of choice. Especially those artisan blends from other countries not available in prefilled k-cup pods...
Just open up from the top and cut the green wire that cuts the optical sensor ans you then can use any cup without the fake lid trick (For use on older keurig 2.0 machines)
Perfect timing! It happened to me this morning!!! Thank you Christa. And Clark too!
Thank you for fighting evil, greedy, corporations!!!
Thanks for your help.
There is an easier way. Simply take a piece of the lavender foil label with the Keurig logo and tape it to the rectangular optic reader. This is a one time install and eliminates the need for multiple steps.
the word "and" makes your directions two steps, which makes it a multiple-step solution.

I see the Keurig marketing team has made it to UA-cam.
Worst defense of a product ever! I DO understand it is a gourmet coffee maker but there are plenty of gourmet coffees that are not available in "K-Cup" that are better than what is available with DRM. So to answer your last question: YES, it is worth every penny saved.
Coach Jones exactly! Sometimes it has nothing to do with saving some money but selective coffee preferences
Wow showing how much i've been paying attention.. I didn't buy a Keurig for the very reason it had drm... The first thing I heard about this hack is a story on CNN!
Off to amazon to buy a keurig...
I just got my 2.0 and bought refillable K-cups on amazon and used it yesterday with no problem
Sheila Mailett which ones did you buy?
After huge backlash kuerig fixed the problem
So why is the price of Keurig coming down and hiking the price of the K-cups? Some printers came down to $39.oo but ink was up to $79 for black and colour?

Thanks for sharing, love the info and nice video! I am abt to buy someone machine and needed to see this.
Thank you, I just got a brand new one from a family member and was like WHAT! when I seen the error message. Ahh, day savers!
I purchased a refillable k pod from amazon that has the cup and the carafe it works prefect.
yep.... save time
Stephanie Shearer can you send me the link please
Blanca Valdez hi it's Amazon.com it's the reusable k-cup

Glad to see someone else tried the hack i came up with using the hot glue gun on the reusable k cup! :) though trim a little bit more off that lip and it will close easier! :)
Yes crafts and kids equal hot glue gun.
I have a Keurig Mini and I don't have this problem. Does this happen with all Keurig brewers or only the 2.0?
How can I use the new smaller pods 2.0 in my original k cup machine the bigger pods
- "should we fill up the cup?!?!" (Gettin super excited!)
- "no"
- "..... 😢 "
Hi Ibay 1 of this cofe maker end is making noise went I make the cofe. I will lake to now why
...as an ex engineer for Keurig Green Mountain, the reason for the 2.0 is that people were using these crappy k-cups and then calling us all the time telling us that our machine was broken, clogged, we owed them a new machine, the taste wasn't what it used to be, etc.
I bought a Keurig Vue 1200. it wouldn't let me use my own coffee grounds in the K-Cup. I called the company where I bought the machine because the 2 in 1 K-Cup came with it. What brand is that reusable cup your using??
I just got my keurig 2.0 model 450 today I'm going to try see if it works
The k-cafe does not have that feature. Able to use any refill
San Fran Coffee co has made a "freedom clip" that snaps into the rectangular box. The clip has the special ink that the machine looks for. Yay. That's bad ass.
I still use my $25 single cup brewer with a little #2 filter. About .10 per cup.
Can u leave this machine on or unplug it get hot if I leave on mode
Is that the solo fill 3?
where yiu find the red k kup refill
Where did she buy the k cup refill
what are the advantages of 2.0
+dani sea There aren't really any. There's a "strong brew" option but... in my opinion they aren't any better... stick with the original.
you can brew a carafe. & bigger cups of coffee
good Job! You save the day!!!!!
Can you imagine buying a new car and it running only on their particular brand of gas or diesel?
keep on rockin in a free world!
Wow, I'll look for an easier solution. By the time I go through this time consuming hassle, I could have brewed a whole pot in an old school percolator!

"I've never had a cup of coffee in my life." - Clark Howard
I'm done with Keurig. The Aeropress costs about 30 bucks and makes much better coffee. It's a little more work, but the payoff is huge!
His phone holster is so HUGE
Red solo cup, I fill you up
Let's have a party, let's have a party
I love you red solo cup, I lift you up,

Mark Laxamana That was because at that time their coffee machines weren't compatible with refillable K-cups...
Really. I use a sharpie pen, or black ink pen, and draw a thin line around the top edge of the k cup. Don't even have to go all the way around! Way less work!
just for the record, the new machines come with a reusable k cup. I guess enough people were pissed lol
mwtd320 thank you!
Lol ! Thank 💘
Every girl has a blue gun ! Lol 💋
We use our hot glue gun for everything. And thank you for the idea. I have been struggling with the 2.0 since Christmas.
www.gourmet-coffee.com/Keurig-DRM-Freedom-Clip.html
Just request a Freedom Clip from the Rogers Family Coffee company. Not only is it less stupidly time consuming, it also ensures that you are not accidentally ingesting glue.
Good hack but I have a feeling that hot glue somewhat plugged the needle thus the failure to brew in your vid.
You're right, should of let the glue dry longer:) LOL
Stupid. Glue on rim...needle in center....far away.
4 GOD DAMN MIN TO EXPLAIN HOW TOO CUT THE LID OFF OF ONE CUP AND PUT IT ON ANOTHER ONE. WOW!!
And then you waste another 30 seconds of your life posting your whiney comment!!
Just don't buy a Keurig, Don't tell me what I can put in my coffee maker! Would you buy a car that only took one brand of gasoline?
Better quality cup if kuerig approed
Thank you for the video. Dude what is in your pocket. Seriously what a bulge!!
"hacker"
I hope my current keurig machine lasts a long time because I won't be getting a 2.0 one.

Stephanie Shearer try turning your machine on for about 5-10min before brewing.
Don't drink coffee. Drink green tea, save the tea bag, brew it again, and save a lot of $$$. Has a lot of dietary enzymes for digestion.
Should we make the cup?
No. no..
i didnt need to cut...just gently peeled it off
they made one already for 2.0
You've never had a cup of coffee in your life? 4:55 What the hell is wrong with you?
Keurig 2.0 is my enemy.
This is such a goofy hack. That lid always falls off. Unless you tape them on. There is a better hack out there.
Coffee machines? - Never heard of it. How about get a cup, some Turkish ground coffee and hot boiling water and you done. :)
I'm just going to stop now, wow.
what a big F you to keurig customers. i bought a 20$ walmart one and itll take anything you want. wont be buying from them anymore.
"Currrrig" LOL It's pronounced more like "CURE EGG" (actually, Cure IG
Old news. Keurig sucks. Buy a BUNN My Cafe MCU.
At $160.00? Too expensive. Besides I read that this model has a history of leaking. I'll stick with Keurig but not the 2.0
What machine leaks? The BUNN does not leak.
Rediscover Film
I researched the Bunn My Cafe MCU and although overall it has good reviews , there are a few customers that say that model leaks.
#greed

This guy is embarassing to watch...
Then don't. Smart show, solid info.
Torie said the guy is embarrassing to watch, not the lady, not the info.
That’s rude
Go away snow flake.
glue/glue fumes, heat , then drinking ? not the greatest idea imo

ORRRR Dont buy it!!!!

Oh wow....People can't afford Kcups? Then don't own a machine....go back to Dollar store instant coffee!
Apocalypse 111 You idiot!!!! It wasn't about not being able to afford k cups... these models weren't compatible with refillable K-cup pods... That way people can use their preferred coffee of choice. Especially those artisan blends from other countries not available in prefilled k-cup pods...
yeah he didn't really grasp the entire point of the video lmfao.
Just open up from the top and cut the green wire that cuts the optical sensor ans you then can use any cup without the fake lid trick (For use on older keurig 2.0 machines)
