Nice review buddy. just minor correction on this video. it has 51 focusing points instead of 39, and D4 has 16 mpix only instead of 24 mpix like the D7100. over all nice detailed explanation of the camera features. thanks.

I've been using d5000 for 3 years, used it to get my head around photography and now I'm fully manual, bought the D7100 last month and love it, totally agree though its not a beginner camera, I would've been lost and probably put off photography if this was my first camera. Pleased I had my D5000 to ease me into this fabulous world. Great review, look forward to more from you. Good luck with the finals!

I upgraded from D7000 and am very satisfied. The D7100 has the same autofocus system as the D800 which is a big improvement over the D7000 and even the D600. Also 2 features that you didn't mention make it easier to use for us older guys: A bigger brighter LCD screen and an OLED viewfinder display which makes the viewfinder data easier to read in bright light. Also, the D7100 has 5 bracketing steps as opposed to only 3 on the D7000 which makes it better for HDR.

Hi harithutube, just offering my take on your question. I shoot with a D5100, and still quite pleased with it. D7100 is a fine camera, and a big upgrade to the 5100. That said, and to help answer your question, the 17-55mm 2.8 is a FANTASTIC lens for crop-sensor cameras. I've rented it a couple times, and have never been disappointed. I own the DX 35mm 1.8, and enjoy using it for street photos and simple portraits. You can't go wrong with the 17-55, and the D7100. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks, Nice overall video with good examples. You might want to clarify your position on the 1.3crop (zoom). It's not giving you any more lens zoom, than if you cropped the image in post. It's merely magnifying the view (using a smaller part of the sensor). It's not like having a 33% larger lens all of a sudden. Also, you could adjust your audio in post so there wasn't such a huge difference between your cuts.

I believe the beginner should be able to buy it. That way they don't have to spend a few bucks going through the D 5100,5200, or 5300 and D-7000. This will keep most beginner wanting to learn. I bought a D-5000 and 2 months later bought the D-7000. Looking to buy the 7100 because of the audio file input to video. D-7000 doesn't have that channel. Also, on D-7000 you can turn on remote on the left outside dial. D7100 seem like you have to go into menu to change for use of ML-3. HDR is better on D-7100, and I handled one and fast focus on D-7100 is better than the D-7000. Canon's DSLR"s seem to be better with video or they wouldn't be in business. Build quality on Nikon vs Canons is why I like my Nikon. I shot a wedding in church with D-7000 in a dark church.
I was able to set up for the lighting before wedding and shot there before for the bands. It is called preparing.

I agree with Mark. I started with D3100 and it took only a couple of months until I felt limited by its features. It was a great camera in quality matters but ISO management was very limited, no remote control, all through menu, etc. 5 months later I jumped to the D5100 and noticed a couple of features more. I really liked that camera. Two months ago changed it for D7100. Love it. Could have started with this category without any issue. Go for D7100. I don't feel it would be hard to start with.

I am looking to upgrade from Canon T2i but I am so confused after researching several cameras. I want to do portrait photography and weddings on a small but pro level. I keep hearing that a full frame camera is better than a crop sensor, however, I see that this camera has a good number of focusing points, better than , say, canon D6 with is a full frame camera. Would I noticed a lot of limitations or decreased image quality if I choose the Nikon D7100 over the Canon D6?

  • @Snufelofagus
    @Snufelofagus 11 років тому

Take the D7100, especially if you are taking courses or plan on getting into photography a lot. I say this because you will quickly wish the d5200 had the better 51pt focusing system, better ISO, and other features. If like most people it will be at least 5yrs before getting another camera. If you can upgrade to a new camera in less than 2yrs then maybe the 5200 but if not get the D7100. You will learn a lot in photography to outgrow the 5200 in 2yrs. Basic functions are same on both cameras.

Wow! that noise at 4000 is still beautiful! even at 6400! maybe should've taken the photos with limited lighting like at night or something without lots of light available, ya know?

  • @Snufelofagus

Also, be sure to get the 50mm f/1.8 lens for the camera. It's only about $220 but it is an amazing lens. It will blow the kit lens away and it is good in low light

Thanks for the informative video. You mentioned a 24-70mm f2.8 is not wide enough for weddings. Have you considered the 17-55 f2.8 or 17-50mm f2.8 which provides a wider angle of view? You may not like changing lenses however the Tokina 12-28mm f4 may be found very useful for weddings paired with a 24-70mm.

This is a good camera for a beginner. Why buy a $500 dslr when they both have the same features. At least you can grow into the 7100. You can get the 7100 for $700 body only new as of January 2016.

Hi! Thanks for your time reviewing this! I have 4 questions : It was not very clear to me if this camera can do HDR in camera without using any futher software. If does , how many frames does it take? is there panoramic mode on this camera? How accurate does this camera meter the light using a prime AI-S or AI lens. It was not clear either if you can chance your crop factor from X1.5 to X1.3 so you would have a 28mm have a focal length either 42mm or 36mm,correct? How accurate black n white is?

  • @ailaka1925

So the noise you're talking about, it's only a problem if you're going to blow up the picture to a large size, correct?

I currently own a D90. I have used it for a few years now and like it but in low light, its not where I would like for it to be.. now with that said would this be a worthy upgrade.. Im not a professional but as in a don't sell photo's.. But I shoot photo's of my family and wildlife, and occasionally gets asked to shoot special occasions.

I would recommend it to a beginner if they knew they would be passionate about photography and willing to learn. Starting with a D3*** as I did or D5*** series camera is a false economy in my opinion. D7*** series are fully compatible with older glass, which are often great quality and much cheaper than the new equivalent. Unless you have the $$$ to buy the newest lenses I'd buy the D7100 and buy great older glass. In the end you'll save money that way and have a better camera.

Does D7100 do panoramic? So this one has built in HDR right? So I will be able choose from shooting in 1.3 crop OR 1.5 crop. Sorry , it was not clear. I have a D3100 and I am ready to upgrade. I am really between D7000 and D7100. I will start my photoshop course on Monday. I am a lightroom 3.3 user. i heard if I upgrade to D7100 i will no longer be able to open nef files with lightroom d7100 , is that true? Thanks for your time!

Okay thank you for the quick reply.. I do have a Nikon speed light for my D90 and I know it will work for the 7100 also but I am thinking about upgrading that also. I currently have the 600 model and wasn't really impressed but overall it works.

I love your videos, I have learnt everything I know from you. I am wanting to study photography and take it past a hobby into being a professional. But I can't decide between the 5500 5300 or 7100. From reviews I have read there's basically no difference in image quality?

Very helpful video once again!! Thank you!! I have a question for you, I've been researching the D7100 & D610 and want your opinion. Is there a difference when you buy a USA version vs the Japan version? Some sites say it only has to do with the warranty. But then I wonder why the International model is about $300-$400 cheaper......hmmm....thx!

I want to upgrade to a camera for shoot and Video of real estate. is the Nikon D7100 the one for it? Your video is has a clear HD field.
    Thanks in advance

Digital zoom is actually purely artificial manipulation of data using software to simulate or provide an effect of "zoom". So if there was a tiny pixel in black, digital zoom will add 3 more around it to make that object "bigger" in effect, giving you and illusion of zoom.
Cropping, would be not adding any artificial pixels, but reducing pixels along the edges. So no artificial manipulation of the data. Hence, it is going maintain its sharpness.

your a great photog but I would have to disagree with you on non pro photogs not buying the D7100. I would suggest anyone to buy the D7100 if they plan on taking their craft or hobby seriously. By the time they learn the camera they will be happy they don't have to buy the newer model when it is released.

D600 Being slower to focus and dust issues I'm wondering if this is a viable option...was hoping to move into full frame and enjoy these options there...what are your thoughts and recommendations? Don't get it so in the video you say the 7100 is an obvious step up yet here you say you thought the D7000 was a little better? Which is it? I own the D7000 and would like to know if I lost out on anything IMPORTANT by not waiting for the 7100. My next purchase, if any, will definitely be full frame though.

Alfredo Jr It is crop as it says. No zoom. portion of the sensor is not used. Enable that option, you will see rectangle square at 16MP. He is wrong.. It is just like cropping in post processing.
