Very interesting, they say Frisian is the dialect closest to English and some of the accents in Eastern Yorkshire and Lincolnshire come close to this. It is likely these people's ancestors were Angles who arrived in england around 400 - 500AD.

Frisian is English's only close linguistic retaliative left, I hope Frisian will survive maybe we English speakers could try and learn it as a second language for the reason to keep our sibling language afloat.

It's not the only close one... There's also Plattdeutsch, but this language is heavily underrepresented. Outside of Germany many people don't even know about the existence of this language.
Plattdeutsch ist often wrongly classified as a German dialect among layman, but it's actually a separate language which belongs to the Ingvaeonic language family, such as English and Frisian.
I don't know too much about the Frisian languages, but I hope they'll survive! Fortunately, here in Germany they finally made the decision to protect Plattdeutsch as a minority language. Thus, in some regions Plattdeutsch was even set up as a second administrative language, such as in Niedersachsen or Schleswig-Holstein.
Plattdeutsch is also classified as a second administrative language here in Westphalia, but only a handful of people can speak or understand it anymore.
My teacher encouraged me to revive it, but where should I start? Hahaha

Afrikaans is a derivative from Dutch and is much younger than Frisian. Frisian is spoken in the Netherlands and Germany so yes, lots of influences and similarities there!
