This was myself and two other friends in December 1981. We found out where the Boys were staying and went in search of them. We found them: Brian was walking down the hall wearing only sweatpants, he was our god and we began to talk to him. To us it was unbelievable that we were talking to Brian Wilson. He invited us backstage at the concert as well. Unbeknownst to two of us our third friend was taping our encounter. The tape was just for the three of us, how it got out I'll never know. We also met Mike in the bar and he was great, Al was a little standoffish. Dennis was in his room, Brian tried to get him to come out but he wouldn't. Carl was taking a break from the group at this point and we would meet him two years later.
What a great story
The Beach Boys are so unique in that they were/are a mainstream band that can usually draw big crowds. However, the individuals aren't mega celebrities like the Beatles, Mic Jagger, etc. So they might have always been more accessible to reach! Or maybe the 70s and 80s were just a different time?
@@truthtransistorradio6716 I'm 34 and just discovering the brilliance of their music this year! I am astonished to have listened to all the big mainstream music acts like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, etc since I was 13 but never even thought of listening to The Beach Boys. Everyday I am grateful that Brian Wilson is still alive when I listen to his masterpieces. It's one of the weirdest bands though where most Americans don't even know the names of the guys or even that they made non-surf/beach music. Mike Love only has like 12k Twitter followers lol I can't imagine any other lead singer of an iconic band have that little of an online following.
you should have stopped by later and did some lines with him. he would have talked your ears off and it would have been a blast, man. one night of harmless fun
We actually did talk with him for about a half hour and he answered all our questions. He also gave us backstage passes to the show@@warshipsatin8764
i dont do coke anymore unless brian wilson offers me a line
cocaine is a POS of a drug, but god dammit if brian wilson was offering, i would ball out
You sound like someone who’s never done cocaine.
Same
I guess if he offering to Fleetwood Mac, FWM (Especially Lindsey and Stevie) would became Brian's closest friend 😆
Couldn’t agree more
@@kidwaryodproduction Brian has written a song about Stevie Nicks, simply called Stevie. If you don't know it, you should check it out. I guess, the connection came trough Dennis, who was in a relationship with Christine McVie.
“Just checking.” 😆
lmao
Imagine listening to a beach boys bootleg and then the guys on the bootleg talk about another beach boys bootleg. Also imagine you’re on coke and you’re Brian Wilson listening to the bootleg
this is the real inception lol
“Imagine Your Brian Wilson.”
This would’ve been the hardest part for Brian.
I don't think Brian was upset about people listening to bootlegs. He probably didn't put much thought into the financial side of things. Mike Love probably didn't like it. But then again, if something was unreleased, they probably don't care that people hear it. Just hard-core fans and not the mainstream audience m
and then imagine you're Brian and you're reading this comment about listening to a bootleg you heard
haha brian was more hardcore than any of them
emailerc C Dennis was hardcore.
Jerry Garcia was die hard core the hardest core
Unfortunately, Dennis takes the cake. RIP.
can i sample this in a song?
Ugh he waits til the very last minute as they’re walking out to desperately try to score some blow cause he’s ashamed and knows he shouldn’t ask, but says fuck it then instantly regrets it .. if you know you know
Yessir....every aspect of that short exchange is painfully obv. To those who've been there....rich AND poor
RUSHED BS formalities to 'casually' inquire w/o sounding like a total junkie.,...the carrot-dangling ( this case party/ celebrity hang) to mobilize them to help him score
.And...of course, the FALSE COMMRIDERY w_ people that--ANY other circumstance-- you wouldnt bother crossing street to URINATE on if they were on fire
Changed the whole dynamic.....
Nah, he was going to ask them to bring coke if they come back
Coke is terrible and can totally ruin someone's life, that being said i would have loved to party with Brian Wilson during this time.
Haha, everything you said
It probably would suck. It would be singing shortinen bread for hours until he leave to eat half a birthday cake alone in his room.
@@Ripwejustkilleddaclub *it probably would be amazing
@@Ripwejustkilleddaclub Only half?
cocain ruined a lot of these guys! shouldve stuck to grass !
this was not 1981 this is clearly before his voice deteriorated
Does anyone know if they version of 'Til I Die they talked about has been uploaded anywhere?
I'd assume they were talking about the "Extended Mix," which was just Stephen Desper getting bored and messing around in the studio, it wasn't released officially until 1998 but was on bootlegged versions of Landlocked prior (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong)
@@daniel.holbrook correct
who snuck in a tape recorder wth?
Total disrespect
The same guy who snuck a tape recorder on the tour bus when Buddy Rich was berating the hell out of his band. 🤣
LOL Awesome, so casual.. I love Brian. Glad he's in better shape now.
Someone was very uncool here
Imagine Brian became close friend with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham on that time.
I think he actually was, Dennis was dating Christine McVie around this point and Lindsey had access to the Smile tapes during the Tusk recording sessions. Plus Brian wrote a song about Stevie called, well Stevie so there’s that. Did they party together? Who knows
@@officialFredDurstfanclub Brian : You guys snort cocaine ?
Lindsey & Stevie : YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!! LET'S FIND IT TOGETHER.
Easily imagine how their conversation would be 😄
Shamed that Fleetwood Mac never have a bootleg like Beach Boys "Endless Bummer". Sometimes, Their conflict and stories was more intense than The Beach Boys, Maybe in FWM we can called it "Enrage Summer"
@@officialFredDurstfanclub Brian actually had a crush on Stevie and he wrote the song Stevie about her. That being said, she was not interested in an overweight, sweaty , greasy guy who seldom bathed with a drug problem. She actually thought both Dennis and Brian were kind of gross
@@gerrydooley951 Imagine Brian or Dennis sing "The Chain" or "Go Your Own Way" 😆
So Brian wanted to rap! He was into Rapper's Delight! Lol jk
I used to buy blow in Tucson from a guy named Shark...you know him? Shark's got a bad rap, but he's a decent guy. My ex was cheating and Shark burned down her mom's house. He's a stand-up guy.
Sad to say I've never met Shark.
Sand sharks are the worst.
I meant to post the reference: ua-cam.com/video/gLy_ve5rLBI/v-deo.html
so you blew a guy in Tucson?
almost everybody in every band in the 70's and 80's snorted cocaine and did tons of drugs and drinking and any honest musician would admit it - it's not out of place at all for Brian to ask them this question .........the surprise to me is that he didn't have an ounce on him already ............Bowie, Joe Walsh, Steven Tyler, blah b;ah blah blah...... they all did it .....even good 'ole Tony Orlando etc.
The circle star is in the great city of San Carlos calif. The police department used to be on 666 elm street
Fuck San Carlos! Belmont all day.
Weird interview ever lol. From the bootleg to the cocaine
Genuinely interviewed Johnny Rotten as he was pissing in a back alley in Toronto. His bodyguard Rambo was shielding his modesty, got it all on tape 😄
"I do, too..."
for some reason I here other artists say they don't know when they're asked what songs of theirs is their favorite.. but that makes me think that they didnt even wrote those songs. Because what artist doesn't like at least one thing from their creativity they made
Lewis Max huh?? That doesn't even make sense.
dont get high on what you create? But i know what you mean
It's a humbling question...many don't hear the same song everyone else does. A better question might be the song they're most proud of.
Most artists are like that
all in fun?

What was this from? Backstage after a concert or something?
It was in Brian's hotel room
kawaii
Sad and tragic - he f'ed his life up with drugs and had such potential
Had potential? The man is Brian Wilson for crying out loud
@@vednev6931 Yes - meaning that by 1970, Wilson had succumbed to drugs, mental illness, and a destructive lifestyle that adversely impacted his ability to create music at the high level that matched his talent. After 1970 with the exception of the staged "Brian is back " promotion he never again was the sole producer or musical tour-de-force he had been.
@@vednev6931 A better way to put it would've been that he had the potential for a better path. Sure we have Pet Sounds and all the other amazing material he's created, but we could've had Smile or whatever else Brian could've made had he been in better shape at this time.
lol Brian Wilson is one of the most famous, loved, and gifted composers to ever live....potential????????????????
