    Poor Brian, a very gentle, kind soul who by about 1969 could no longer take the pressure of the record business. Brian loved drugs, pot , speed and cocaine. He started around 1964 with pot. The drugs plus a creeping mental illness did him in. Along the way many people took advantage of his kind heart but he's still here.He just lost his wife, I hope there are people who love him that will really care for him.

    Attorney Mason did not help Brian, in my opinion. Clearly Brian needed help to break the spell cast by Landy. It turned out that Stan Love was right, and he was supported by Carl and others in getting a conservatorship for Brian (though I don’t think it was Stan Love). Mason definitely should have helped in this process, though in this clip he seems to be rejecting the process in accordance with Brian’s wishes, even though Brian was incapable of thinking clearly.

    • @lawrence142002
      @lawrence142002 3 роки тому +5

      Carl was the one who ultimately gained the conservatorship in December of 91 and he appointed Jerome Billet to handle a lot of the business end of things as his primary concern was getting Brian away from Landy. Well when Brian married Melinda, she gained conservatorship and they ended up suing Billet over what they deemed his failure to protect Brian during the Wilson V Love lawsuit such as his lawyers destroying documents and overcharging Brian.

    This is a very complex and inordinately strange story. In Brian's first autobiography, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (1991), he strongly defended Landy. He makes no mention of Melinda Ledbetter, his second (and current and long-time) wife. In his second biography, "I am Brian Wilson" (2016), Brian reviles Landy and credits Melinda for liberating him from Lady's brainwashing and Landy's Svengali control. The important thing is that Brian made it through all of this and remains the most beloved icon in pop/rock music, by critics and fans alike, who admire his great resolve, his talent as a songwriter, singer, producer and arranger (and he can, or could, play every instrument except horns, which he didn't have the "lip" for), as well as his disarming humility and ingenuous personality. If there were any residual doubts about his genius, it was put to rest with his last original album, "No Pier Pressure" (2015).

    Remember the Wilson’s and the Love’s were family (close family) and it sounded like it was all a family matter.
    The brothers gave Brian drugs, likely because they were on drugs and sympathized with their suffering brother, who was having a difficult time with being sober. Mike Love was known as a hardass, but he was clean in the Eighties and Nineties, and allot of times X-drug users are gung ho about other drug addicts getting clean. Mike and Stan probably felt it was their responsibility to help get/keep Brian clean, seeing as they were also family and at one time Brian even asked them to keep him clean.
    As far as Dennis, he was an addict, like Brian, so he gave Brian hardcore drugs at times Brian was clean and sober. That is definitely not cool, but it seems like he was being more of a fellow drug addict than a brother. At one point Stan and a bodyguard beat up Dennis for these actions, something allot of families of drug addicts have dealt with. There’s no condoning beating up a weak person on drugs, but I’m sure many people can understand how it can get to that point.
    The frustrations with people doing this to themselves and those around them can be overwhelming and feel like hitting a brick wall. Now, tack that on with the drug user being the lead talent of a multimillion dollar organization, and also letting some outsider move into his home, ruin the band, and take all his money.
    Whether fans like it or not, Brian and Dennis were toxic to The Beach Boys, yet The Beach Boys couldn’t have existed without them. I can only imagine how much this frustrated the other band members and why emotion played such a crucial role in Mike Love and his family’s decisions toward Brian and Dennis. Sadly, Dennis died pretty young because of a drowning accident and guess what, drugs played a crucial role. It was almost like an, I told you so, from the Love’s and it greatly affected Brian (which was the catalyst for this whole thing in the 80’s). If you read some of the stories about Dennis (personally my favorite Beach Boy), he was a borderline maniac. From marrying a woman who was claiming to be his cousin to treating drugs like they were candy, not too mention the craziness with the Manson Family, he had allot of problems and brought those around him down with him.
    Luckily this story has a happy ending… Brian eventually got clean and The Beach Boys reunited for one last time before Carl died.

The family (presumably Carl, their mother Audree, and Brian's daughters Carnie and Wendy) got a restraining order for Brian against Dr. Landy. In addition, Landy's license to practice medicine in California was revoked. Although she probably did a lot of behind the scenes work, Melinda could not be part of the legal proceedings, as she was not related to Brian at the time.

      Just who did they steal that COMPLETELY
      INAPPROPRIATE last name from?
      Oh, Murry's sister, Mike (and brothers) mother.
      THAT says a LOT! 2 out of 3 HORRID people in
      Brian's life, brother and sister. (Well, the sister's
      sons.)

      Melinda could not legally do anything, because she wasn't family at the time. Stan Love is Brian's cousin. He had to get Brian's family to consent to the proceeding, but he had legal standing to bring a conservatorship petition.
