Hi Rob - I have a similar approach of dashing round first, trying to sniff out vinyl. Nice Nina Simone live set. Gabor Szabo is a great guitarist. Some decent 12s there too. Great set of finds! No records at the boot sale for me today but a big box of decent CDs for cheap has kept me busy all day...cheers Dale

That prodigy is probably worth a bit as they seem to sell high these day. I would have been very chuffed with that OMD on factory. I think that's the reissue but still a great buy. The original has a 'thermographic' greyish sleeve and is worth quite a bit. Jazz club nice 😉👍

I would say you made out very well! I'm sure you paid less than half or even a quarter of the discogs prices for the jazz albums and Nina. Great buys with The Primitives and Wilson Pickett and all the others. I have some of those. I've had that Archie Shepp but I don't know if I still do. I know I've sold some from that series and I don't recall just what.

Great to get an Archie Shepp record for £1.50, I've not seen that budget series before but its rare to see a budget record with a gatefold sleeve. I'll have to check out Nina Simone's live albums. That Gabor Szabo is an especially great find.

Rob, excellent scores, my mother always told me, '' the early bird gets the worm''. As Bryan Ferry sang, ''Throwaway lines often ring true''. Roy Harper is a wonderful songwriter and performer, his album, ''Bullinamingvase'' is one of my faves by him. The song, ''Cherishing The Lonesome'' gives me goosebumps. I dig all those jazz albums. I suggest you start with Mahavishnu's later album, ''Inner Worlds'' then brace your self for the burning majesty of ''The Inner Mounting Flame.'' John is one of my favorite guitarists, he plays in many different styles, his solo acoustic guitar playing is as enjoyable as his electric playing. If those two albums don't connect with you, don't give up on him, and explore more of his work.
Micheal I really enjoyed inner worlds I played it last night and though it had its frantic moments for a first listen it exceeded my expectations. I use car boot sales as a way to discover newer artist to me at a reasonable price . As I said you just have to see what’s available and as my tastes are pretty broad I generally find something. @@robwalkerletthemusicplay Rob, I would recommend Billy Cobham's two albums, ''Life And Times'' and ''Spectrum''. Cobham is the drummer on ''Inner Mounting Flame''. Fun fact: Phil Collins has stated that Cobham's drumming on ''Inner Mounting Flame'' had a huge impact on his own playing style.
I also think Inner Mounting Flame is awesome - McLaughlin gtr work, Cobham on drums, Jan Hammer with amazing keyboards and Jerry Goodman ex Flock on violin - saw them live jus after they released this at C Palace Bowl - Yes debuted Close To The Edge they were top of the bill - marvellous concert

Yeah, I'm not willing to get up at silly o'clock to get to car boots right early. Luckily, my kind of record is the type the early birds leave for me to pick up at 10 o'clock. You're right about the kinds of records one will buy new or for top dollar, as opposed to those one would pick up cheap if they turn up. I was discussing this only last week. I realised that 95% of my classic rock, jazz and claasical is all stuff I've picked up cheap. You can tell what my favoured music is by the records I've bought new at full price or second hand for a substantial cost. I've never bought new records by The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Clash, Pink Floyd, The Jam and shed-loads of other "classics", yet I have albums by all of them in my collection. Most of the new stuff I buy is by bands and artists few people have heard of. Possibly because, their records are rarely going to be found second hand in the future, or be constantly repressed. I'm starting to waffle, sorry. I just find it interesting how we, as vinyl buyers and collectors, all have our little rules and foibles. I suppose that's what makes everyone in the VC is unique...Although, some are more unique than others. Cheers - Hedley

Hooray Rob, a car boot adventure ... My greatest ever car boot sale find was a mint original copy of 'A Love Supreme'. It's a thing of beauty. I picked up a few other jazz greats from the same stallholder too. Those were the days ... I like how you love all things David Crosby ... I'd rate the Primitives far above Transvision Vamp. They are still producing good music too ... That Nigeria Afrobeat CD is a good find. I'd buy anything on Soundway.
Hi Carl I spent a few minutes with the African guy I bought that afrobeat cd from he seemed impressed by my fela kuti knowledge. Car boot sales are great for vinyl and CDs .. @@robwalkerletthemusicplay There is a good documentary on UA-cam called 'Finding Fela', if you've not seen it ... I saw one of Fela Kuti's sons in concert a few years ago ... A few people have said they've not heard of Simon Turner. He is well worth checking out. He did a couple of records as the King Of Luxembourg and an album on Creation in the 90s. Daniel Miller is a big supporter of him too and has released some of his film soundtracks on Mute. Practically all of his stuff is difficult to find and can sell for big money even on CD. Hi Roberto, I see you finally cracked open the wild wood the other day - I'm relieved the labels were in the right place...... I could argue my scavenging is better because I don't get there first to car boots rather end of the day when they put the stuff out before the early birds get up following day 🤔😉 Tracey Tracey is still lovely although seeing them this year I got my words mixed up a bit (she is tiny, even more of a short arse than me) I got my albums signed because it was a small gig. Transition Vamp? I think that's a double entendre faux Pas all in one. Some of those names were a bit tricky TBF, Szabo what's his face I've heard of and probably worth a punt. 1990s 12"s Harris Pilton and myself yes please, Rob Ison harping fondly of Roy Harper. Happy days in Bolton. I'd not wanna be at a car boot with Kevin Davies their ex striker he was all elbows. Martin/scavenger.
Hi Martin .. I wouldn’t like to confront Kevin Davies at the boot sale . I guess visiting the car boot later does make you the ultimate scavenger. I’m always coming across 12 inches I know many pass on them but I’ve always liked them . Arsenal have started well but there’s no room for error. We’ve just sacked our manager thankfully. he was doing his best to get us relegated again !

I tend to take a brisk walk around a carboot Rob looking for records. I know it can be a bit of a ball breaker but i will trawl through the usual tat,to hopefully find some treasure but even I'm getting fed up with that now 🙁 I've got that Wilson Pickett LP,had it since 85 i think,it might be a German pressing ??? I drove down to the Reading fair yesterday.....absolutely #hit loads to thumb through,a great record fair,I'll definitely go again 👍👍👍

Some great finds Rob. You’re right Rob, you’ve got to get out early and get your hands dirty. You got my attention when you showed the Harper record. So hard to find over here, that was a great deal. That last McLaughlin album - meh. But for a pound you didn’t overpay at least. You did well overall. Cheers.

Fair play to you for getting up and grabbing these records Rob..sadly, i fall into the category of lazy can't be arsed individuals, so i guess i miss out..i also really don't like car boots, the smash n grab vibe doesn't really do it for me. Some nice titles, particularly the jazz records, great prices. Amazingly, i still don't have a copy of A Love Supreme !. That Roy Harper comp is an odd one..i've seen it several times but never picked it up, primarily because i already own the studio albums covering that 70-75 period. Weird version of Me and my Woman ( parts 3-5??).. i'd be interested to hear how they've editted this down from the original on Stormcock..it's a 13 minute Roy epic, and one of his best songs, but must be heard in it's entirety to be fully appreciated..i'd reccomended getting a copy of Stormcock for sure ( if you don't already own it of course). All the best.
Hi rob the smash and grab vibe tends to be those resellers after computer games etc most of the time I’ll be the only person looking at records as there’s generally a few people selling and you can’t be everywhere. Though one of the reasons I don’t sell records at boot sales is that I’d dread the initial how much how much etc! Hi Rob, I like that Nina Simone double live album. The Mahavishnu Orchestra is a difficult listen. Any Gil Evans record is a good one. Art Pepper was a great player as well. Haven't thought of The Primitives in a long while. ✌

That made me laugh, you talking about your hunting technique. Mines very similar. That OMD is the reissue original was on factory, green cover lovely die cut on it. A good copy goes for well over £150, would love to find one of those.
Déjà Vu is a must-have (not saying that because it's a French word haha), Archie Shepp is an artist i have just been introduced with, there was this French label back in the days named BYG Actuel, and he was part of their stable of Jazz artists, they released quite a few interesting albums of him

When I managed a record store in Los Angeles in the late 80's - early 90's guys with generally good taste would buy Transvision Vamp & Primitives records .. I don't think they liked the bands..they liked Wendy & Tracy & can't fault them for that. Scotland 5 matches = 15 Points 👉

I like Inner Mounting Flame. It can be a bit manic but thetes also some lovely slow instrumentals. That Primitives is underrated. Maybye not as good as 'Lovey' the febut, but I thi k youll enjoy it.

Mine is NM/VG+ but would be NM/NM if not for a small amount of pen on the rear of the sleeve from the previous owner. I had been thinking of trying to remove it. I reckon it’s a near £150 album in tip-top nick, but you might find a copy for £30 if you were lucky I think that’s what I paid for mine a few years back. I’ve not been to a record fair for years! I keep thinking about going to that one in the Netherlands that’s supposed to be awesome might be biggest in Europe I believe. They hold it twice a year I think. Cheers mate

Hi Todd . Car boot sales are generally in the summer months. Organised ,well advertised and weekly pretty similar to the flea markets you have in the states . People use them as a opportunity to declutter etc . Many years ago I picked up a lot of vinyl through visiting them these days I’m not alone but I usually find a few interesting records and I don’t buy from discoggs etc my collection has been built from buying from local shops and car boot sale. Deju Vu has great songs on it but for me it doesn’t have a great flow. I have that Wayne Shorter album. I didn’t know he passed away. I guess Mazzy didn’t do a video.
A few of the tracks on deny vu remind me of songs on crosbys debut .. I’m sure a few folks did tributes for shorter .. it’s the thing to do in the vc these days , people celebrating death mazzys a expert in it 😃

Roy Harper is a wonderful songwriter and performer, his album, ''Bullinamingvase'' is one of my faves by him. The song, ''Cherishing The Lonesome'' gives me goosebumps. I dig all those jazz albums. I suggest you start with Mahavishnu's later album, ''Inner Worlds'' then brace your self for the burning majesty of ''The Inner Mounting Flame.'' John is one of my favorite guitarists, he plays in many different styles, his solo acoustic guitar playing is as enjoyable as his electric playing. If those two albums don't connect with you, don't give up on him, and explore more of his work.
Micheal I really enjoyed inner worlds I played it last night and though it had its frantic moments for a first listen it exceeded my expectations. I use car boot sales as a way to discover newer artist to me at a reasonable price . As I said you just have to see what’s available and as my tastes are pretty broad I generally find something. @@robwalkerletthemusicplay Rob, I would recommend Billy Cobham's two albums, ''Life And Times'' and ''Spectrum''. Cobham is the drummer on ''Inner Mounting Flame''. Fun fact: Phil Collins has stated that Cobham's drumming on ''Inner Mounting Flame'' had a huge impact on his own playing style.
I also think Inner Mounting Flame is awesome - McLaughlin gtr work, Cobham on drums, Jan Hammer with amazing keyboards and Jerry Goodman ex Flock on violin - saw them live jus after they released this at C Palace Bowl - Yes debuted Close To The Edge they were top of the bill - marvellous concert
Awesome John, I saw McLaughlin on his final US tour in 2018. His playing was incredible and he smiled all night long, and so did I.

Yeah, I'm not willing to get up at silly o'clock to get to car boots right early. Luckily, my kind of record is the type the early birds leave for me to pick up at 10 o'clock.
You're right about the kinds of records one will buy new or for top dollar, as opposed to those one would pick up cheap if they turn up.
I was discussing this only last week. I realised that 95% of my classic rock, jazz and claasical is all stuff I've picked up cheap. You can tell what my favoured music is by the records I've bought new at full price or second hand for a substantial cost.
I've never bought new records by The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Clash, Pink Floyd, The Jam and shed-loads of other "classics", yet I have albums by all of them in my collection. Most of the new stuff I buy is by bands and artists few people have heard of. Possibly because, their records are rarely going to be found second hand in the future, or be constantly repressed.
I'm starting to waffle, sorry. I just find it interesting how we, as vinyl buyers and collectors, all have our little rules and foibles. I suppose that's what makes everyone in the VC is unique...Although, some are more unique than others.

Some intriguing finds there, Rob. I've just got back from an intensive vinyl scavenge of the Japanese second hand vinyl market. For me it was Japanese pressings of jazz. I'm just collating stuff ready for some posts on my channel.👹

Hooray Rob, a car boot adventure ... My greatest ever car boot sale find was a mint original copy of 'A Love Supreme'. It's a thing of beauty. I picked up a few other jazz greats from the same stallholder too. Those were the days ... I like how you love all things David Crosby ... I'd rate the Primitives far above Transvision Vamp. They are still producing good music too ... That Nigeria Afrobeat CD is a good find. I'd buy anything on Soundway.

@@robwalkerletthemusicplay There is a good documentary on UA-cam called 'Finding Fela', if you've not seen it ... I saw one of Fela Kuti's sons in concert a few years ago ... A few people have said they've not heard of Simon Turner. He is well worth checking out. He did a couple of records as the King Of Luxembourg and an album on Creation in the 90s. Daniel Miller is a big supporter of him too and has released some of his film soundtracks on Mute. Practically all of his stuff is difficult to find and can sell for big money even on CD. Hi Martin .. I wouldn’t like to confront Kevin Davies at the boot sale . I guess visiting the car boot later does make you the ultimate scavenger. I’m always coming across 12 inches I know many pass on them but I’ve always liked them . Arsenal have started well but there’s no room for error. We’ve just sacked our manager thankfully. he was doing his best to get us relegated again !

I tend to take a brisk walk around a carboot Rob looking for records. I know it can be a bit of a ball breaker but i will trawl through the usual tat,to hopefully find some treasure but even I'm getting fed up with that now 🙁

Hi nick I went to the reading fair 2 years ago with Martin parrot and John the 6 inch pianist it’s a bit of a trek for me but it was a great fair. That Roy Harper comp is an odd one..i've seen it several times but never picked it up, primarily because i already own the studio albums covering that 70-75 period.
Weird version of Me and my Woman ( parts 3-5??).. i'd be interested to hear how they've editted this down from the original on Stormcock..it's a 13 minute Roy epic, and one of his best songs, but must be heard in it's entirety to be fully appreciated..i'd reccomended getting a copy of Stormcock for sure ( if you don't already own it of course).

Hi rob the smash and grab vibe tends to be those resellers after computer games etc most of the time I’ll be the only person looking at records as there’s generally a few people selling and you can’t be everywhere. Though one of the reasons I don’t sell records at boot sales is that I’d dread the initial how much how much etc! Hi Rob, I like that Nina Simone double live album. The Mahavishnu Orchestra is a difficult listen. Any Gil Evans record is a good one. Art Pepper was a great player as well. Haven't thought of The Primitives in a long while. ✌

That made me laugh, you talking about your hunting technique. Mines very similar. That OMD is the reissue original was on factory, green cover lovely die cut on it. A good copy goes for well over £150, would love to find one of those.

Déjà Vu is a must-have (not saying that because it's a French word haha), Archie Shepp is an artist i have just been introduced with, there was this French label back in the days named BYG Actuel, and he was part of their stable of Jazz artists, they released quite a few interesting albums of him

I have that same Roy Harper best of thing. Great selection of songs. Inner mounting flame is one of the best Mahavishnu records. Gabor Szabo is a great guitarist. You got some good stuff there

When I managed a record store in Los Angeles in the late 80's - early 90's guys with generally good taste would buy Transvision Vamp & Primitives records .. I don't think they liked the bands..they liked Wendy & Tracy & can't fault them for that. Scotland 5 matches = 15 Points 👉

I like Inner Mounting Flame. It can be a bit manic but thetes also some lovely slow instrumentals. That Primitives is underrated. Maybye not as good as 'Lovey' the febut, but I thi k youll enjoy it.

Mine is NM/VG+ but would be NM/NM if not for a small amount of pen on the rear of the sleeve from the previous owner. I had been thinking of trying to remove it. I reckon it’s a near £150 album in tip-top nick, but you might find a copy for £30 if you were lucky I think that’s what I paid for mine a few years back. I’ve not been to a record fair for years! I keep thinking about going to that one in the Netherlands that’s supposed to be awesome might be biggest in Europe I believe. They hold it twice a year I think. Cheers mate

Hi Todd . Car boot sales are generally in the summer months. Organised ,well advertised and weekly pretty similar to the flea markets you have in the states . People use them as a opportunity to declutter etc . Many years ago I picked up a lot of vinyl through visiting them these days I’m not alone but I usually find a few interesting records and I don’t buy from discoggs etc my collection has been built from buying from local shops and car boot sale. Deju Vu has great songs on it but for me it doesn’t have a great flow. I have that Wayne Shorter album. I didn’t know he passed away. I guess Mazzy didn’t do a video.
A few of the tracks on deny vu remind me of songs on crosbys debut .. I’m sure a few folks did tributes for shorter .. it’s the thing to do in the vc these days , people celebrating death mazzys a expert in it 😃
