- Опубліковано 11 лют 2025
- In this video I am going to directly compare two of the best EQ's the industry has to offer. Both the Buzz REQ 2.2 and Maselec MEA-2 are 4 band parametric EQ's with gain, frequency and Q controls.

i know you are in love for Buzz but i like more mea 2...the feeling to me is like it has a better response on the trasients
Buzz low end sounds like a wider bell. Also less defined, but definitely bigger. The stereo field seems to narrow somewhat when changing to the Buzz vs the MEA, and it sounds a little veiled up top. Depends what you're looking for the eq to do in your chain I guess, but as a MEA owner I'm not planning on making any changes.
And as an MEA-2 owner you would be slightly biased 😉
@@AudioAnimalsStudio not particularly, just commenting on what I heard. I’ve flipped plenty of gear when I’ve come across something that works better for me, or better as part of my total chain. The Buzz is a high end piece, but not what I’d be chasing from an EQ. I completely get why others may prefer it. The joys of so many great options these days.
Thank you !! i live very far away where we dont get to demo these 🙌🏽
That buzz low end just hit different. Very nice. Overall it also sounds more musical and dimensional making the Maselec sound more clinical during the A/B. I cant afford either but if I could it would be the Buzz.
The Buzz sounds more sophisticated but at the same time more boring. Maselec MEA2 is definitely the EQ I would choose 🤘🏾😁
Hi, this unit is the version with LundahL o B40, thanks
I prefer the buzz. The buzz seems to make audio pop forward out of the speakers more than the Maselec, which I prefer. The Maselec sounds wider, which I don’t like. The Buzz makes me think of the word “sparkly”, because the top end sounds like it’s dancing around, again which I prefer. The Maselec is more subtle, smooth and clean to my ear. I prefer a little bit of excitement, without messing up overall frequency balance, which is exactly what the Buzz seems to do for me. That’s my dream EQ for sure 👍 Thanks Paul
What a lovely equalizers!
Have you A/B the Maselec with the Acustica Ivory5? I was always curious to hear the difference between then.
I did a while back. I didn't find them to be all that similar. Do they state it is an emulation or based on the MEA-2?
@@AudioAnimalsStudio Thx for answering. They don't claim that officially, but all the Ivory collection have all the same interface from the Maselec's console.
And the SPL-PQ against the PA version, how it sounds?
Once again, thank you so much for your content.
@FABRIEK Audio yeah I think the similarity may just go as far as having a similar layout. The PQ match up pretty well. Will shoot a comparison video of this in future.
Buzz is fullHD and Maselec is 4K
Which options have you picked with low filter and transformer for the buzz?
Both of our ones are the same. Active low and transformers.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio nice! Seems there are two transformer options. LL1517 or LL1684. Which one you recommend?
@dizz1 to be honest I just chose the more expensive one
Thank you for the test!
All are great. But i find MEA2 more define, more precise.
Can the Buzz be used on the mix buss and also for mastering ? I think I want the best for my mix. Thanks
It can be used anywhere you want to use it. Use it for tracking if you want.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio Thanks for the input 🙏🏾
Yes. The Buzz sounds the best. Without a doubt. This video made me change my mind. I want one extra equalizer besides my SPL Passeq. I was thinking to buy a 3 grand equalizer. But I will save some more money now😊
Did you see my previous video comparing 4 EQs in different price ranges. 3k 5.5k the buzz masekec 7k. The 5.5k SPL PQ, buzz and maselec made the 3k EQ sound like a toy in comparison. I'd highly recommend saving for a Buzz. It screams quality.
What about the Chandler limited Eq Curve Bender Hardware would this be in the same ball park
It's a great sounding EQ that would certainly be in and amongst the big boys.
80% of the time I prefered the Buzz. I am thinking of selling a lot from my mastering chain and buy the Buzz just for making individual instruments and busses sound amazing. Is that an overkill? I can master my music by Audio Animals 😊😊
The Buzz EQ is special. Having that in your chain is never overkill.
To me, the Buzz just sounds cleaner and maybe has lower self noise/distortion? Both are obviously incredible pieces of kit. The Buzz seems to take the prize though.
These were my findings too
How would you rate the Buzz against the GOLY Porter Grinder EQ?
The Buzz is the best EQ I've ever used. The PG I've only used a handful of times but did like it. I would need to have them side by side to make an informed choice.
Have you used the Knif Soma or Eska?
Yes all the Knif stuff is really good.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio which would you prefer for modern pop music and has a better transient response? eska or maselec rev 7?
@jasonalemon5874 for me personally the Maselec.
Is it possible to cut frequencies with these boxes? 😂
Yes an EQ can both cut and boost even in the analogue domain. If you look closely turning left will cut and right will boost. Just like a like a plugin emulation would do if you are more familiar with that. The Maselec now has a plugin emulation out you can demo to get your head around what a cut and boost is. Hope this helps.
To me the Buzz has more depth very noticeable on the guitar piece as well as the lows seem a tiny bit more punchy and less boxy so while both sound great I do like the sound of the Buzz slightly better overall.
i'd go with the buzz too for me personally ,but if i had the money i'd have both .Buzz for more organic music ,maselec for more electronic music
Bet you can't wait for yours to arrive.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio that will be a happy day !🙂
Maselec sounds exciting and alive, yeah ... :))
Buzz is low and mid seemed more pushed forward and smeared at the top. maselec has more clarity and definitely more versatile when it comes to genres, it does take a small L on the low end in comparison but the clarity and definition is undefeated. i would go the maslaec
Need to match the curve in plugin doctor do
Here we go. Always one
@@AudioAnimalsStudio lmao... great demo mate!
🔥🔥
haha.. sorry, professional deformation. I have the maselec rev 7, maybe I will sell it... I will listen your video about the buzz only. thanks for this video.
Both EQ's are brilliant, I personally wouldn't sell it. I would have them both.
sounds like the Maselecs low band frequency is actually higher than the Buzz
both go up to +8db but of course one can be more subtle that the other.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio I meant that the actual frequency is higher than what it says, or eventually the Q value might be a bit wider. The ow boost sounded like it affected more frequencies (or higher frequencies than on the Buzz) :)
@MSDMNRBERLIN Yes, this could be the case. The two units are visually matched as close as possible. This is the kind of thing I want to hear when switching between the two units.
Buzz.
