  • This week, we’re bringing you the latest video from a series that we call Home Coffee Brewing with April. We join Franco in his bright Copenhagen kitchen to brew some filter coffee together.
We believe that innovation in coffee brewing starts at home, and that some of the most special and meaningful interactions with coffee can take place within your own kitchen.
As we are frequently travelling visiting our international partners, we decided to introduce this format as a way to interact with you on a different level whilst maintaining the frequency of our videos.
In this video, Franco brews a Sudan Rume from Los Pirineos in El Salvador. This lot was black honey processed and roasted by local roasters Prolog. Franco uses a Plastic April Brewer, April Paper Filters and a Wilfa Pouring Kettle. We have featured many different styles of grinders on this channel during this series, this time around showing how Franco uses a blade grinder and his own technique to grind the coffee for his pour over. He kindly shares his techniques and motivations with us whilst discussing his approach to coffee at home.
We hope you enjoy this episode and we look forward to bringing you 2 more episodes from here in Copenhagen, before we head off to Chicago for the next chapter of the series.

So coffee channels are just straight up buying subscribers now??
No way you have 214k followers and videos get 5k views and 163 likes.... this is sad coming from a brand I respect

I loved this episode, it's great to see how people brew coffee and it's important that you can enjoy it without having all the fanciest of coffee gadgets in the world

True, and the most important part is the raw material. A great green coffee, roasted well, goes a long way on any setup. What’s your go to brewing recipe right now?

Nice to see someone using a blade grinder. I still occasionally use my Krups 75 blade grinder from the 90’s just to see what I can get out of it. Really enjoy these videos

Thank you for watching. There is an old school vibe to it which we really appreciate. What would you recommend as the next grinder?

@@coffeewithapril I’m just awaiting delivery tomorrow of the Fellow Ode 1st version as it’s an incredible price on Amazon right now . My previous Melitta Calibra wasn’t great as the built in scales are way off and the thing is so loud. I have 1Zpresso X-Pro hand grinder , Hario Slim and I used to have a Zassenhaus but found it really awkward to use so I sold that a few years ago

Cool to see someone use a blade grinder. Lance Hedrick was asking people in his Patreon about this, and how we could use blade grinders to make coffee more accessible. Again, love to see a home brewers approach and intentionally with different aspects of coffee brewing.

Thank you for watching Eric. For sure, he even shared Mate with us afterwards. What was your favorite part of the episode?

It’s fun to see how people go through different processes when brewing coffee. I used to pay very close attention to the timer. Lately, however i’ve been brewing based more on visuals. It makes it a little difficult to be consistent, but I seem to enjoy it more.

Thank you for watching. It's always about that combination of variables and often the visuals are forgotten because it's easy to get caught up in everything else.
What are your main visual cues?

@@coffeewithapril I primarily focus on my initial pour, making sure that the grounds are completely saturated. I have even increased the amount of my first pour, which I have found brings out more sweetness. Then from there, I just make sure to keep the water level above the bed. I think this helps maintain a more constant temperature.

      Hi Nick,
Thank you for watching. None of us are native English speakers and regardless of that, this channel is all about respecting the kind people who willingly invest their time to share their perspective on coffee.
We are glad to have you contribute with comments but we keep it about coffee.
