- Detroit, Michigan, USA - 1997 Skate America, Ladies' Short Program - First, profiles on Michelle Kwan and Tara Lipinski, both of the United States. Then, it's Michelle Kwan's Short Program, skated to Rachmaninoff. She would place 1st here.
Many people have forgotten who Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes are, but mention Michelle Kwan and many know who she is.
I'm not a huge Tara fan. But people definitely know who she is. Especially when she's a commentator for US Figure skating.
Both Tara and Sarah were Olympics Cinderellas .
Actually, both them were overrated.
Their jumps wouldn't get marks today.
Watching her walk out to prepare. She looked like a gorgeous gladiator.
This program is a masterpiece that no skater shall ever eclipse. 6.0, indeed.
the only other short program that could rival this is yuna's danse macabre
Michelle may never be eclipsed as the most elegant true skater ever.
Not in this lifetime.
Actually, Michelle was the most important and popular skater in her era because her artistry.
@@theprinceoftides6836 Michelle kwan got the most 6.0 ( 57 times ) in the history. That's why Tara skated under Michelle's shadow.....Michelle was a artist, Tara had no artistry.
The video of a very young Michelle in the opening fluff piece showed the girl rotating clockwise. I didn't realize she did that. Anyway, thanks for putting this up! The best ladies' short program ever, IMO.
Dylvente tonya Harding 94 much ado about nothing ?
Tara (and Sarah) may have the Oly gold medal, but Michalle IS the gold standard.
Michelle is bigger than the Olympics. Her legacy and iconic status only grow. Meanwhile, people beg NBC year after year to fire Tara because they find her so negative and annoying. She had no positive impact on the sport. And I find it rather curious that MK is never mentioned at Nationals after owning the event for a decade...
@@thesupremediva Not just National"s. M. K. Owned the whole bloody thing for a decade. She was the sport.
It's a accident that Tara and Sarah had the Olympics gold. No one supports that Tara and Sarah would be the winner because Michelle's artistry and technique were better.
Definitely the GOAT.
This was terrific but her Nationals performance was even better. Especially with the triple flip planted towards the end of her performance and done wonderfully to the music to boot.
Lipinski may have an Olympic Gold but she can not claim to have an iconic program or performance. Michelle has multiple memorable moments in skating history, too many to count really. Michelle Kwan is the answer to not only the most decorated figure skater in history, but the standard in musicality, femininity, tastefulness, and technique.
well said
Kwan is definitely not the most decorated skater in history, LOL! In fact the most decorated is pretty factual, Sonja Henie with 3 Olympic Golds and 10 world titles is by far, nobody even comes close. If you mean modern day skaters it obviously would be Katarina Witt with her 2 Olympic Golds. I don't think either is the best skater in history, but you said most decorated.
And I don't like Lipinski but I would say her Olympic winning performance is an iconic performance and moment in history.
If people do remember Tara or her Olympic "win," it's typically with a cringe or, like me, with PTSD from that hell-raising screech of hers. Worst decision in Olympic history. Hearing her talk about "artistry" as a commentator is offensive. She should never have been given above a 5.5 in that category.
@@thesupremediva I so agree with you. Have never been a fan of Tara Lipinski. Everybody talks about how great her jumps were-hah! They were about 2 inches off the ice.
@@robdurdain5912 Tara's Olympics performance is an iconic performance in the history because it's just like a Disney cartoon which means Tara should go to the kid's Olympics.
Lipinski don't have the elegance of Michelle Kwan.
I prefer the 3flip with this, but it's lovely.
You forget you're watching required elements....
wtf? is this a mirror version? because michelle jumps counter clockwise.
There's only 2 that I can think of who can do both, Michelle and the equally great Carol Heisse.
Tell us, "Getrealandsee2013" stalker, the restraining order deal you were forced to make.
Getrealandsee= BloodyMary0007. Same personality, same disorder another set of miscreant screen name.
Anyone care to talk with me all things Michelle? I’m a choreographer and figure skating enthusiast.
W
I'm sure it was annoying and the worst travesty for a Michelle fan when we watched Tara Lipinski turn into the Olympic gold medalist and I was never a huge Michelle fan I was crazy and been a Surya Bonaly fan and I saw that without the lackluster and defensive skating at that long program in Nagano and the exhuberance of Tara Lipinski turned a little luck with 2 gold medals in her wvi
Tara skated under Michelle's shadow because Tara had no artistry. Everyone surprised what happened at 1998 Olympics and no one supports Tara would be the winner.
Michelle kwan was known for her artistry in the history. Michelle got the most 6.0 ( 57 times ) . Sasha told people that she learned a lot from Michelle's performance. Yuna Kim inspired by Michelle.
@@scottietoohottie5273 Tara Lipinski skated safe because she had no artistry more than Peter Pan in the Neverland. Artistry is the most difficult technology. (∩▽∩)Michelle's LP was classic, beautiful and womanly ....Michelle pushed the artistry of skating to another level.
