How to Build an Auto Rotisserie STEP-BY-STEP - Designed by Red Wing Steel Works

  • This is a full video on how to build a "Proper" Auto Rotisserie. The design is by Red Wing Steel Works.
    This is not some ghetto DIY build.
    Materials can be as cheap as $300 depending where you source your material. I overpaid for mine.
    Your going to need a good amount of money, a good welder, good fabricating skills and patience.
    I recommend getting the steel tubing for the bottom that joins the two rotisserie ends together.
    Always wear your personal protective equipment!
    Like, Subscribe, Comment and share the f*ck out of this!
    Stick around for my next video on how to make custom mounts so you can attach your car to the rotisserie and what modification I did to the rotisserie to make it work for my car.
    This auto rotisserie was not designed by me.
    This video is just a guide on how to build one, you should have a qualified welder and always wear your PPE!

    I’m currently about to start building the same one. I made the mistake of getting a quote from Metal Supermarket. It was OUTRAGEOUS…especially since some of the smaller lengths can be ordered from Amazon with minor cutting.
    Thanks for the video! I’m the type that needs to see an actual completed product. Some of the lengths and decisions had me questioning clearance and operation.

    • @240Tony
      @240Tony  4 місяці тому

      Hey man. I went with super market at the time cause I paid premium for them to cut it. Basically material cost was double. If I went to my local metal supplier, I could of gotten the material for 60-65% less. Also, my second video on the rotisserie, I had to modify it for more clearance when moving the "T" piece that mounts to the car. Instead of some triangle gussets, I just welded more passes for strength. The gussets prevented me from moving the piece up more for balancing the 240.

    I just bought the steel for this. I only had them make a couple cuts. It came to just over $600. More than what I was expecting but I knew steel had taken a big jump over the last couple years. Plus casters were another $40. Hydraulic rams were $120 and nuts and bolts another $30. Haven't purchased paint but I'm sure that'll be another $20, so all in with today's prices it's at around $800. Still cheaper than purchasing one and I'm sure can recoup most of the cost if I resell this. Anyway, great video Tony.

    I’m just a DIY welder and I’ve been doing all of my own sheet metal work so far on the car....lots of practice and I think I’ve become pretty good at it lol.
    I have a Hobart handler 140, 110v... I’m guessing it’ll be too weak for the square tube on this rotisserie?
    I’m in Canada as well!

    • @240Tony
      @240Tony  4 роки тому +1

      That will be a pretty exciting project. I would not weld the rotissery with a 110v. It wont run hot enough to have proper fusion. It may look like it sticks but with that might weight on your rotissery, there will be a weak point and eventually lead to it breaking. Your project and your safety is at risk. Try to get a welder that uses 240v.

      It honestly depends what your doing to it. It's worth it if your doing alot of work underneath the car. Could always sell the rotissery later on. But if your doing work above the car, you may not need a rotissery. Get a leather welding jacket if your doing alot of overhead welding.

    I can appreciate the awesome craftsmanship of the build. My question is, most people who want to build a rotisserie, do it because of the cost. $1300 in material plus your time doesn't seem worth it, you can pick up a 3000lb rotisserie all day for $1100 shipped. I'm not talking shit, it just seems all that time spent building the rotisserie, could have been spent working on your ride.

      Ya for sure. Unfortunately I paid premium price in Canada for the supplier to cut all my pieces to size. A few guys in the USA was able to get their materials for about $300.

    I cringe any time I see someone weld without cleaning up the weld area first. A flap disc only takes a few seconds and it makes for an all around better weld. Otherwise good job. I went the lazy route and bought mine. I didn't have the time to spend fabricating one.

      Beveled edge would definitely add more strength but a 6mm weld fillet at 1" long with this mig welding wire allows it to gave about 40000 psi tensile pull. More than enough 😊

      Hey man. Unfortunately it did cost me a bit cause I paid premium price for metal super market to cut all to size. Some folks in Usa got the material for under $300 to build this. Depends on your source. If I got whole length steel from varsteel. It would be alot cheaper for sure. This is just a educational video :)
