- On this video we look at a simple and effective way to increase the range of your hand held radio, we do a field test of 2 x radios using a stubby, the standard and a longer higher gain antenna to see what difference the antenna will make.

Enjoy these times with your boy 💙 nice test 💪
I tell you what this channel is one of the BEST I've watched, you really do carry out well detailed videos, I can't thank you enough. Please continue in providing quality testing your are brilliant mate hands down 👍👍👍👍👍
Many thanks 😎👍
Good stuff...this actually exited me. Changing antennas makes such a difference. Have the NA771 on mine when portable, x30 and a beam on the ones at home. Makes a heck of a difference each time. Great video, loved it
Thanks
That was an absolutely delightful video ! Also, great testing. Best HT antenna tests I've seen done in video. Great times with your son. Acts 2:38 to you de nx1q and K1YAH.
Excellent! Thank you for your tests.
Excellent tests enjoyed the video post thank you for the effort put into delivering it.
Your welcome glad you liked it 👍
Brilliant video again I ordered an ABBREE! 42" in mid march so it should arrive after next weekend.
Thanks, be great when life gets back to normal won't it, stay safe 👍
Really like the handheld to tripod adapter! Great idea!
Might be time to get a 3D printer in the near future.
Nice work Knoxieman & Son!
Cheers
Great video! Please do tests with a "tactical" antennas! Thank you!
These results corospond 100% with my tests in my home village
Excellent test
Good job mate thanks for your efforts you have a very nice son seems to be a good boy thanks again for everything From WA7WZL/ 6 southern Califoria. 73:s
Thank you for an interesting video mate!
Cheers 👍
Good video...
Excellent... Test & good idea...
Thanks
Great vid.. would have been an interesting test on 70cms repeater on the stubby... I had one for my Kenwood handie.. it got quite hot on 5 watts on uhf!!
Thanks, yes I did do it with the stubby but it didn't get in to the repeater, stubby is OK if you're only needing short range but want to pocket the radio, that's really where they come in.
Are you in USA? How did you get into a reciever? Can I speak through repeaters here in midle Europe with my Baofen UV-9R AMG too?
Very good test - Enjoyed the video -73's to you both -M1EZU
Thanks
On flat terrain is that when wattage becomes important?
Size matters, she’s always said that 😉
Tf lawllll 😂😂😂😂
That longer antenna really shows how inefficient the dual band whips are, especially on VHF. The -dbm numbers on the SDR screen were interesting showing a 3db increase from the stock to the long whip on UHF.
Yes the bundled antennas really are quite poor.
Interesting test there and using the sdr setup. I have the genuine Nagoya aftermarket antenna and it's Chinese knock off copy too, will have to setup something similar and test their efficiency. Bonnie lad you have as a cameraman too. 73s G6JEF.
Thanks so much 👍
Good Test, But I Would Still Love To Hear Thaat Original Baofeng Antenna test
Those stubby antennas show a different resonant frequency with the plastic cap removed, which surprised me.
thanks! time for me to get some better antenna than my stock.
Yes it makes a difference 👍
Hi hi. I took a fake antenna. And measured the normal ant. And cut. Then put a terminal on the remaining peice of the fake. Attached it to a ground point. Pointing 180 degree from the stinger. Now with a counterpoise. It's good to go. To be removed as needed. Kv4li tks
Can u make a dual band antenna sir? Shoutout from ph
GREAT POST ,, FAMILY ALSO OUT WALKING ,KEEP SAFE ,DES CREAN BELFAST IRELAND 68CT022
Iv seen a fiew videos where people have added a tiger tail. Its not something iv ever tried. I was just thinking it would be a good test for u to try with your tripod Paul. Might make a good video with the same 3 antennas into the same repeater? Im enjoying these new stile videos. Cheers mate
Thanks Gary 👍
Tnx ! Great
Nice
I cant hear GB3EH Edge Hill but will have to try a qso with you from GB3VA i know its got CTCSS access these days.

I'll keep an ear out for you 👍
i bet the copy antenna is a copy of a nagoya and i have a pair too, mine couldn't fit as well, but i grabbed a pair of wite cutters and removed the extra material near the connector of the antennas, and they fit well now, but there is a gap now between the antenna and the radio that may require some kind of rubber spacer for esthetics 😁
Yes that's the problem it has that extra bit of plastic round the base, I could make something a little better looking just used the adapter for speed 👍
What antenna is connected to the SDR , is it inside the house or on the roof ?
It's a white stick in the loft
Get insane distance with Abbree 42.5 inch folding military style antenna.
They risk breaking the antenna connector.
By chance is your handheld radio a CB or Ham Radio or walkie talkie?
It's a walkie talkie Ham radio
👍
Did you say 30 miles ? I thought these Baofengs were not meant for that distance.
Yes you can easily do 30 miles with a bit of elevation and a clear path radio to radio
Most whips are only resonant when held near your 🤕 head! If you try them standing alone the resonant frequency on both bands is way off! Try it with an analyser you will be surprised

G4RWA was nice
Because you were not holding the radio it lost the grounding and lost signal strength !?
10:38 = 36,5Км.
5 Watts at 30 meter s up is better than 30 Watts at 5 meters up.. antenna height is far far far better that power Watts...
Height is might 😎
