At I want to speak open, our armed forces never satisfy or impress with indigenous developments because their foundation is based on English way, their roots of existence are drawn by colonial mindset, we need to decolonize those ways, we can make that through learning our history and Vedas,
our armed forces need to collaborate with Indian Researchers by analyzing & cooperating in every stage of developments of the technologies. they need to guide the developers in every level possible and they only use those on which they are worked on, we just need to compare them with our friendly nations.....in this way we can avoid foreign inputs to our defense needs and make our defense self reliable,
we can also make rupee stronger,
we no need to depend on foreign sources in time of WAR,
we can even export to friendly nations so that they can improve their skills and protect their nations,

MOD is also another reason for delay so Is DRDO... CCS still didn't released fund for AMCA, TEDBF, IMRH and delayed many years for Tejas Mk2... DRDO still can't choose engine development partner for 4 years.
NAVY is trying 2 procure 3rd aircraft carrier but MOD still not approved it, no approval for MMRCA, HAL can't deliver product in time..
DRDOs 23 mission mode projects out of 55 are facing huge cost and time overrun...
And MOD can easily make rules which will indirectly force the armed forces to buy indegenous weapons....
Navy is buying most indegenous weapon but they don't give approval projects for navy like P75i etc...
MOD has to take more blame than armed forces
4 years from now - IA and IAF reject desi HALE drones because they dint like its color despite it clearing Andromeda galaxy test. Also India set to acquire HALE drones with better colors from Uganda under emergency purchase.

no they aren't, when it comes to capability the expectations are on par with other major powers as it should be, but yes if your talking about expectations about funding and what to expect from prototypes then I agree the indian arforce usually expects too much from prototypes and the type of funding they give

We need to develop a drone carrier dedicated only to indigenous drones. The recent development in the Indian Ocean is reflecting on the necessity of such carrier.

Ideal solution might be for DRDO & Armed forces to sit together...bring back the 'Rustom II' to drawing-boards...change the t-tail to v-tail...increase the use of light-weight composites to reduce weight & possibly increase fuel capacity....use turbo-prop engines instead to those rotaxes, as we already have access and use the required turbo-props on our HTT-40 & Dornier-228s...complete the redesign in 6 months...6 months for prototype manufacturing & thereafter 1-2 year of testing...God willing we can have our own MALE / HALE drone flying & ready for induction in 2-3 years...this is actually "not impossible", it can be done as we have the basics...in case of tapas we made 2 mistakes, first the design of tail section & second the mid-way change in choice of Rotax over the originally planned turbo-props

Aab samajhlo, agar single engine Archer NG ke design ko MQ9B jaise ek Honeywell turboprop mil jaye toh kya hoga ? Definitely the best in class - UCAV banega toh size bhi badhega, weight bhi - lekin ek bohot powerful 1000hp turboprop hone se saara balance out hoga.
Sensors , surveillance, targeting system saare toh humne Rustom pe hi bana liye theh , byas uska engines uska capability enhance nehi kar paya.
Jab naya Archer, lets call it Archer NG Mk2 ayega tab woh well armed and equipped hoga...saath mein superb endurance and performance.
Tab iska manufacturing contract private played ko milega. Hamare industrialists bohot wise hai , US companies ka tarha woh equipment develop karke baitha nehi rehega apas mein competition ke liye. Wahan corruption ki chances badh jati hai.
Toh wisdom yahi hai ki original specifications DRDO aur armed forces finalise kare aur final product private industries banaye.

To get to level of MQ9, India needs another 20 years of expanding IIT kind of engineering education and selection to at least 100k - 120+ iQ individuals produced a year. Only then with a million 120 iQ engineering brains working in cohesion with Government and DARPA kind of Research will make us capable of competing with product similar to US. Else forever it will be in catching phase.

Finally some light has penetrated the thinking of the leadership-babu combine. Funding the private sector to produce a prototype will definitely produce quick results as the best talent resides there as also the best engineering capacity and capability. Maybe its only Tata now but other big companies like L&T, Reliance, Adani, Mahindra will certainly enter such programs as soon as the details become clear.
I have 1 question related to the propeller of those drones.
If the issue is related to achieving height, can the counter rotating propellers be used to increase the lift like tu95 bomber?
Why aren't the 'babus' made accountable for delays especially in issues like nations defense. For delays the babus must get demoted and made to serve in remote and under developed areas of India for 3 times the time period that they delayed decision making, file approval etc. India will achieve un matched efficiency and be a great defense manufacturer once this example is practiced. Mark my word even China will not be able to match the speed at which projects are executed if all the babus understand that they will need to serve in Naxalite regions or un inhabitable terrain with a demoted salary and package

I don't know why ia and iaf wants country made with extraordinary specifications (like we need piston engine for a aircraft like ww2 jets to operate our jets in 24kpl millage bla bla bla) and when the desi program fails then they're buying drones which has turboprop engine.
I'm really disappointed from ia and iaf cause they want long endurance but don't want long wingspan, they want high service celling but don't want long wingspan or turboprop, they want it to be efficient like a tvsxl100, then it will be heavy
Our armed forces are not yet ready for Make in India. They need to adopt Indian machine which will give confidence. Only Navy trusts Made in India.

We should not stop our Tata HALE our s will be half the price of Umcles equipment. We will learn but first we need to build ROTAX and Lycoming aero engines. Heck we have so many IITs with specialists in Heat Engines , turbines and thermal engineering and yet we can’t make 4 cylinder in line IC engine for get Wankel or rotary IC engines for UAVs
