Pete, watching you spread that load in the rain with your new equipment makes me think of a kid that got his first bicycle for Christmas. He can't wait to try it out so as soon as it's light outside he's out there in 2 foot of snow with that new bike. It's nice to see someone that still gets excited about something like that. hahah

Agreed. A lot of those old IH tractors are going for that or more if they are in good condition, and from the look and sound of that 756, it's in good condition. Solid buy in my opinion.

You, and these videos specifically, introduced me to the D310 powered 706/756. After a year of searching and a handful of bids that came up short for my budget, I bought a D310 powered 1967 706 today. Thanks for stimulating the local economy, Pete!

two ways of looking at it. a new 70 to 80 horsepower tractor, 2 wheel drive, open station costs about forty thousand dollars. so you didn't spend 10, you saved 30. good luck Pete.👍👍

We have a 2019 JD with 67 horse I think. It probably gets used twice a month. Meanwhile the old Oliver and IH are used literally daily. I think unless you’re a mega farm or somebody that just farms for fun while still having a day job, a brand new tractor isn’t the move.

The logic of this purchase was explained factually and well thought out. In 1988 I purchased a used 1466 with duals, cab and air. It was a great tractor for me and served my farm well. I sold the tractor to my neighbour in 1996 and 26 years later the tractor still serves him well. I hope your 756 serves you well for many years to come. Love your videos.

I bought my first diesel tractor when I was 18.
    It was a Massey F.
My dad was always critical of my purchases & this was no exception.
It set up high when the trend was the opposite..
But, I bought it to run row crops..
And setting up high , it did that very well..
Soon my dad was using the diesel 90% of the time.
It had tons of power .
Bush Hog , bailer, spreader, planter , discing.
    It did it all...
Im sure you're excited with your new tractor & spreader...
I was more excited about my tractor than when I bought my 1st truck...

I remember the excitement of buying used farm equipment at the auction. My first tractor was a John Deere 'R'. Two stroke diesel with a gas pup motor to start it up. Picked it up for $1100 and drove her 10 miles home. Next tractor was a Massey Harris '55' gas motor. All my equipment was well used, but still usable. I had everything from a 1926 one bottom International breaking plow to a Massey Harris stooker for making oats bundles. Fun times on my quarter section of land back in the late 70's.

The notification for this video came across the top of my screen at the exact moment I was watching you introduce the tractor in your previous video, which made me laugh out loud! What an absolute blessing you have in your father to advise you and encourage you at these moments. I lost my Dad 10 years ago and I so miss him for that very thing, among others. I’m feeling today the same feeling you expressed in this video. Yesterday I drove an hour and bought a used enclosed utility trailer for my farmer’s market hauling. I literally paid almost what a 2023 model sells for (sheesh!) but the older models are better built and I’ve been looking for 6 months for one and they are like a hen’s tooth around here. But, I rationalize it by saying I just bought myself savings in “time and effort” and those things are really priceless at my age. Bootstrapping…just learned a new term that I will be using! I don’t know tractors, but I recognize and really appreciate your passion and knowledge that you show when you tell all about the engines and PTO and the like. Happy poop spreading!

That 756 is a nice tractor. Sounds and looks great. The way auction prices have been going lately I’m honestly surprised that you got it for under 15K. One minor correction (and that’s why I’m here!) the starting fluid prohibition isn’t necessarily for pre-combustion chamber engines but for glow plug engines. My old D7s will run happily on ether spray - but they don’t have glow plugs.

I live in South East Nebraska and we bought a 756 D in 1969. I really loved it. It had the original round muffler on it, and it really had distinct sound to it. After about 10 years we out grew it even as a second tractor. So I traded it for 856 with a M&W turbo, which I still have today with about 9000 hrs on it. In my opion, 56 series was one of great series. By the way you have great videos, keep up the good work.

I have a comment on the older 56 Series and older Farmalls with IH wide fronts. We have owned three over the years. Keep an eye on the "steering arm" under the front end. We had 2 tractors that the arm broke from "metal fatigue" after years of use. Once it happened in our driveway and no problems. Unfortunately, the another time; the tractor rolled in the grader-ditch, severely injuring the operator. Problem is you don't know there is a "crack " started until arm breaks. Any dirt and grease covers that. I hope this saves someone some grief.

You may already know this but pulling the kill cable half way out will help it start when cold. My dad uses this on his 544 with a 239 4 cylinder of the same engine. Enjoy your purchase.

Glad you were successful on the tractor, and the auction fever wasn't too bad! Looking forward to seeing it in future videos 👍🏻

Hey Pete. Congratulations with both your purchases! I'm happy for you. I'm one of those silent followers of your channel, though I give you a thumbs up each time. A couple of videos ago you asked us what videos we liked the most. I would say, just keep on doing what you do now. Your tractor restorations are really really cool, your farm chores are amazing, a day on ... also. There is for each one something to see. Thanks for all your videos.
