  • The F850GS Adventure is the more comfortable, larger fuel tank, version of the standard BMW F850GS. It’s powered by a a parallel twin engine producing 95 horsepower and it features a 23 litres fuel tank, bigger windshield ana a complete aluminum luggage set. We took it out for a 1.000 km ride in the Alps to see how good it really is for touring.

    I just finished two weeks ago, on a 7,600 mile (12,000 km) ride around the USA -- North and South on my 2018 R1200GSA. Love, love, love my bike in the US highways. I bought in addition -- and just took home today a F850GSA for a 30,000 km ride I'm going on starting July, ending in November from Florida to Toronto - shipped by air to England, then around northern Europe, Russia, China, Laos, Thailand... And a few countries in between. Why a F850GSA? R1200GSA is big - real big and when going off-road, mud or heavy gravel, its too much for me often -- and I had experience in South America -- dreamed of a lighter bike. My thought is that the F850GSA is the perfect mix of large enough, comfy enough, not like the 1200/1250GSA, but you have to make choices -- and the F850GSA will be amazing and balanced on adventure travel.

    hi!
    What do you think wich one is better for road and lots of highway? tracer 900 or f850gs? I know this is a real adv but i rode both of them and i cant decide...f850 is a great machine but the tracers power is incredible.... Or should i wait for the f850 rs version 17" wheels?

    • @DriveMagRiders
      @DriveMagRiders  5 років тому +2

      André CC Suzuki V Strom 1000 :)) now, the Tracer is sportier, but less comfortable than the F850GS. The F850GS feels a bit soft for road use. It depends on your riding style. Tracer = 100% street, sport touring, less comfort. F850GS - not that fast, but more comfortable. The RS should come up in a couple of months so if you're not in a hurry

    Looking at those early classic "experimental" motorbikes and how difficult they were to operate, I can't help thinking that, still, a lot of people are still heavily against solutions that make riding easier and focuses the rider's attention more on the enjoyment rather than on piloting the motorcycle, such as DCT, electronic rider aids, cleared OLED instrumentation, sending coordinates directly from Google maps to your navigator, etc. Personally, I like having the gear and throttle controls where they are now, electronic speed control, fuel injection and engine management, lean angle ABS, etc. I won't swop riding a R1200GS for riding a R1150GS, and know very few people who don't believe the motorcycles you get today are far better than those from 30 years ago.

    I replaced the windshield with a larger one from Wunder... that works really well and I also placed the navigator above the monitor of the bike, also in this case very functional. As a navigator, I use that nice mobile phone in combination with the BMW system. Side bags I use those of the really resistant Kriega. Finally, I placed a net above the saddle to prevent the saddle from heating up during the hot season and draining the water during the rains.

    • @jaronard1
      @jaronard1 5 років тому

      Don’t know what the market is for this bike. Its stated wet weight is the exact same as the R1200GS. The point of a smaller engine bike is for weight and cost savings, and the F850GSA doesn’t accomplish the first and only marginally accomplishes the latter.

    • @morningbetterlast
      @morningbetterlast 5 років тому

      @@ciszero packages don't make for a more capable adventure bike unfortunately.
      Sure they add some comfort but R1250GS is easily way more comfortable at the same weight.
      In my country 790R is more expensive than fully loaded F850GSA due to BMW discounts and the KTM are sold out still.

A real super bargain to boot for a lightweight adventure bike capable of Round the World use. I also like the look of it with chunky 50/50 Tyres. For only 6K new what's not to like. I'm looking for a lighter bike than my current GSX1250 FA (Bandit with fairing) and I may just buy a CB500X. I'm 56 with bad back and I don't need a 1250 any longer. Funny how bikes have got bigger - a large bike in 1980s was a 750 now it's a 1200! No I'm convinced the way to go is to downsize to a middleweight.

      Depends on what you want to do with it. The GSA has a larger tank (2 additional gallons), larger front fairings (more wind blockage), better wind screen, more comfort for long distance touring. Consider what you would add/change to the GS to do what you want - upgraded windscreen, add engine guards, add luggage rack, etc. Whatever you add will add weight and cost. If you're not adding much, the GS might be the better option. If you're adding a lot, you may be better off with the GSA.

    Come on BMW. YOu call it a touring bike. Why not put a farking windscreen on it? I have a 650 and F700GS and both without a good windscreen.
    WTF?

    No real useful points were made during these entire 13 mins, except at the end regarding the ESA feature, comments which I really struggled to understand.
    I mean, I really don't want to watch someone stuttering while explaining something in a review.
    I appreciate the camera work, props for that, but the whole thing feels more like a commercial than a review.

      I kind of have to agree. It's a nice video though.

    I have to be honest in saying I can't see the point of this bike apart from people with too much money to spend.

      People that want 30kg less weight than a 1200gs and not the danger of damaging the cylinders.
      It is the same price (almost) as the triumph 800 xca and the honda africa twin.
      1500 euro more than the ktm 790.
      If you use about the same option list. Ypu even have a few additional things on the bmw then so.
      I have been looking at this middle class as I dont want a huge too heavy one, so I have been comparing spec sheets and prices, taking what I want in the options.
      Like heated grips and cruise control.

      You pretty much summed up bmw bikes.
