One of my best of friends in the entire world is a surfer to the very core and says one of the truest things ive ever heard : " All us surfers surf the way we surf because of tom curren " i think he is so right . juan carlos ruiz .
Honestly it's great to see 80's Curren. I have some VHS from french TV of 86 Curren - a profile shot in Biarritz and covers of 1986 Lacanau Pro and 1990 Lacanau and Biarritz pro. Some really good contest surfing from the master. If the quality's still good I will edit and post. In the meantime keep it coming 28media!!
debates are fun...they are expression of our appreciation.... Tom has never done it for me but he is definitely one of the great surfers. His forehand tube riding was phenomenal; with the best. Occy will say Tom was the best but for me Occy did alot more. Much more variety, much more innovation, forehand, backhand, beyond hands.
This was a clip from either "Blazing Boards" or "Beyond Blazing Boards". Why do I know this? Because it was the only two surfing video's I had growing up in the mid 80's.
Great video! What is the name of this video? I wonder if there's a way to purchase this on DVD? I remember back in early 80's there was movie called ,"Free Ride." I wonder if there's anyone out there who saw this film...
^ Lol. By definition you can't pump a single fin. You can only gain speed by your positioning on the wave. So no they are not drivier. You can pump and drive to gain speed regardless of your position on the wave with 2+ fins.
Curren surfing Sandspit is the best surfing footage I’ve ever seen.
Love the way he carves Sunset; nobody looks smooth at Sunset, except Curren.
He was just at our church for an out reach that we had. He is so rad! He sang with his band =] . We watched a movie he was in called Walking on Water
The greatest classic style ever! Soul surf! The best of all times.
charging those sick waves back then, and still killing it. I'll hope to ever become this good as the Tom Curren in the 80s haha.

Curren and Hoodoo gurus. Great combo!
Curren was THE MAN!
is there anything more classic than tom curren surfing whith that song in the background?
True! Best comment!
The classic feels are unreal.

Great video! Thanks for posting. I remember seeing shots of Curren at Backdoor in the magazines with that same wetsuit years ago.

Simply amazing.

his style only gets more smooth the bigger the waves get
heck yea! that was in '94 when his woman went to DBCC
I was there too
He got a Richenburg
thanks Tom
My all time favorite surfer with alot of style. I would rather watch Tom surf than the young kids doing aerials anyday.
Perfeito 👍👏🙏👏👏👏👏👏

@13anolen Nope. Timmy CurrAn is not related to Tom CurrEn.
This is a great song for this video. Check out my footage of TC i Scored at my home break.
midnight oil????
Slater is brilliant , but he hi pigdogs onthe backhand , Curren will do anything
not to pigdog . Slater's favorite surfer , Curren
Hawaii wasn't toms bag. One of the best but not in high stress situations. I think that's why he broke down so many doors as a free surfer.
A single fin? Are you absolutely sure about that? That's got to be the most maneuverable single-fin in existence.
Single fins are more maneuverable than multi fins, if you have the right fin and the right board shape; and they are faster and drivier too.

btw...MP was the best
I like watching 80's surfing but i had to mute that horrid music in this vid.
umm no i'm pretty sure thats kelly slater.
he is good though
Gurus ruined it for me, sorry.
He really was a groveler, innit
