That’s a southern mama thing. I’m born and raised in central Mississippi, and you best believe that’s how my mama measures
I cook like that too - I got it from my mum and nan, neither of whom did much measuring other than by eye... well, hand and eye actually but you know what I mean.
It's always a pain when friends ask for a recipe of mine as I have to then figure out what the actual measurements are.
@@Big_iron_boi my mom was from West Virginia, she’d follow recipes, but she also knew how to stretch the dollars to feed a family of four on a Navy corpsman’s paycheck, including a picky eater like me. But she also knew how to eyeball and measure like a pro.
I grew out of a lot of that pickiness, but she’d do her best to accommodate, like beef stroganoff she’d take my portion out before adding the sour cream, because it wasn’t an extreme change.

Mum's cooking will never ever lose!. Even though I'm 17 and still lives with my mum (and just had dinner) watching this is already making me miss her cooking! I hope to keep eating her food everyday because no restaurants can even come close to matching her cooking! Love to all mums for putting effort everyday into their family's meals!

I watched this because my dad's mom just taught me how to make it, and it's almost the exact same way my dad and his mother made it for me since I was a kid. They are both real root'n toot'n Texans and when I showed this to my Grandma, she had never tried the saltines before so her and I are going to try that next time I visit her. I usually google about 10 recipes to a dish and compare the ingredients and methods across them to find the "core" of a dish the things that have to be there. Then I compare the individual flair each cook put on it and formulate my own recipe based on what I learned. I almost always nail even complex dishes on my first shot.
