  • Today we will be tackling my first ever custom wood sign commission! As a three dimensional chainsaw carver, this projects was entirely different for me! It was carved 100% free hand, no CNC nor routers used as I don't own either at this time. This project came with many challenges and the heat wave didn't help, but I am rather proud of the final product! This sign represents a lot to the family it was carved for and I hope they enjoy it for many years to come!
Also a shout out to the company GRAFF for allowing me to try one of their many carving products, I was pleasantly surprised with its handling and performance as well as the products reasonable price tag. Thank you GRAFF, I look forward to using this on future products! Amazon link below!

Working with you on this project was a pleasure; you truly go out of your way to satisfy your customers.❤ If I ever want another custom carving, I know exactly who to call.😁 Thanks again!

Sooogood! You really made it come to life. And that's your first sign done like that? You are so talented. You have inspired me to start chainsaw carving. Nothing I have done looks very good yet but I'm getting better slowly. You make it look so easy. You definitely have been blessed with a gift. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I never count haha! But if you also count the hours searching for a large kiln dried slab, the 2 hours driving to get it once I found one, the planning, carving, sanding, more sanding lol, paint and 3 seal coats...maybe like 70-80 hours?

TayMarie, you truly knocked it out of the park. As a diehard woodworker and now a CNC’r, there is something to be said about your craftsmanship. Truly exceptional, and loved watching it. I wouldn’t mind loooong videos of time lapsed segments of your work. There is something to be said about wood taking a new life form either by machine or hand carved. BTW… what type of projector did you use in the beginning? I’m thinking of painting a mural of of the tropics inside my pool area fencing and I’m the worst drawer in the world. Thanks and keep up the great work.

One of the most difficult things when carving relief with a Dremel is the gradual and eventual change of grain in the round(as displayed here when doing the rim) the tendency of skipping or jumping with the grain change perpendicular to the rotary cutter requires discipline and the right amount of pressure to prevent the work from being ruined! Great Job Tay! free handing relief grain is very difficult especially when humans are not CNC machines with little to no deviation! Great Job on the commission!
