It's awesome to see an owner who shares the passion for RXs in a way that'll inspire generations to come. Definitely one of the finest builds I've seen and those wheels are perfect.
Got one of these that’s been sitting for 20 years, I’ve recently dumped the oil and fuel for fresh stuff….. and it fired up and runs. Needs a rebuild obviously and a full resto that I will get to one day in the near future. Who said rotors aren’t reliable! This sound of this thing gets my blood pumpin👌👌👌
I don't normally leave comments, but that car makes all the right noises. The turbo, the "brap".... just amazing! Great work building such a usable car!
Big props to Mazda legend Alan Moffat who piloted the Pete Stuyvesant Group C RX-7. Fond memories. Made me laugh when Mazda Japan allowed Al to compete in the US as a final send off for the Car 43 legend. According to folklore Al arrives Stateside ready to rock. The US teams checked out his setup and pretty much wrote him off as a joke. One must remember the Rx lost a ton of penalty kgs as per Group C rules making it the lethal weapon it always was and pretty much had the yanks eating their words as he ran rings around the competition. Goes to show, Aussies can build world class race cars, period....
I heard similar stories about the GTR program in Australia where the Japanese refused to compete against us. Hornsley and the SP FD program. Another example. You're absolutely correct.
Still my dream car, and like this guy, one of my first vehicles (4th I believe, first was a 65 Impala, 2nd my mom's Silvia S12 Notch I bought, 3rd was an 82 Buick Regal, and then the Series 2 GSL FB RX7) was an 83 GSL RX7, it was Havana Brown, bridged 12A, Webber's, full Racing Beat exhaust, suspension, and sway bars with Bilstein shocks, and vintage SSR Superstars.... I was 16.... and my dumbass sold it when I was 17 right after finishing the build and I lost my license for a DUI, and instead of being smart and parking it and waiting, I sold it for lawyer fees which didn't even help the case 🙄😤😖 I almost bought an FC GTU with a large street ported 13B when I was 19, and I can't remember why I didn't, but didn't 🙄 I'm now 42, and should've been bought another, FB's are my favorites (SA is the small taillight, FB is the larger ones), FD's are my second favorite.... I'll never get an FD, especially not in my favorite Competition Yellow Mica 😖 Edit: I initially wanted to say it, but I got sidetracked talking lol.... this guy's FB is literally, besides not being Havana Brown with a brown leather (like mine) gut, or black cloth, it's literally perfect, nothing I would change (maybe taking that little dangly thing off the back, never cared for those little rings lol)
I had the opportunity to drive a 1982 model brand new from Dallas Tx. to Roswell NM. and I pushed it the whole way and helped my father put a custom paint job on it which I found out later my sister in law (owner) hated and had repainted … if she only knew how hard I hammered that rotary motor. What a car for its time!✌️
Great vid Clay, Great RX Damian. In the mid 90's, around the corner from my mate's house, there used to be a yellow one sitting on a front lawn with 600$ written on a piece of cardboard in it's front window. I was going to buy it just so i didn't have to walk from the train station to his house. When I think of some of the cars that we had and what happened to them I don't know if i should laugh or cry. I am grateful we had so much variety and there are still some around.
I bought a red 79 back in 86. Was my first the first car I bought myself. Loved it to death. 2 years later I bought a 83 gsl with a glass roof. These cars ar so awesome.
I think these were great first cars. My first car in 98 was an 85 GSL, followed by a 79 track car, and then I built an 82 into a bit of a show/street cruiser with a Bridgeport. I still think about getting one again some day if I end up at a place with more room.
Purely delusional maybe? I am capable but will I ever? So many things fall into this category unfortunately. Try and keep it real, but not lower your expectations of yourself over time so that they may be met bro.
Do it. My first engine failed at 5k miles, but it was due to using used parts, but it was the best learning experience. My second engine was a dream, no problems. After that, you learn what you like and how much time and money you're willing to put in.
That is one gorgeous 1st gen! I've owned a '79 12A-powered RX-7, an '85 GSL-SE, an '89 GTUs, and a '90 Turbo-II. The only generation I have yet to own is the third gen / FD3S. I absolutely WILL own one someday soon, but man.. watching this video sure brings back memories!!!
This out of all the rotary vids that I have having alot of respect for them but this has been ultra satisfying great quality and time involved 👌 🙌 👏 👍 definitely 🏁🏁🏁🤙😎🔥⚡️⚡️⚡️🔥🔥🔥💖
So clean! 😍🙌. Brings back so many men's! I was so into these in the 90's.....I owned 3 of them. But this isn't the 1st gen, it's the 2nd gen. 1st gen had different tail lights.
@@GLifemineyou mean series 1. Series 1,2(this one) and 3 are all first gen rx7s. 2nd gen it the series 4 & 5. Series 6 to 8 is 3rd gen. Sa22c or Fb. FC. FD.
This is really making me miss my RX7 i had this same car same color red with aftermarket 5 spoke wheels on lowering springs. it was stock but a fun little car for my highschool years
If you’re a big RX7 or Rotary engine Puerto Ricans are were it’s at. Orlando, FL or Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 itself there there are many of them close to this. 🎉
Certainly one of the best builds featured on the channel..💯 However, you won’t want to miss the next rotary coming out very soon - Touted to be also one of the best in Australia!🙈
My brother owned one identical in nsw about ten years ago. Sold rough with a blown diff. Remember sitting sideways in the back seat to fit. Good fun lol
Having an 85 rx7 myself if you're a car guy you need to experience at least one rotary to appreciate them, however after owning one for many years the engine is great and terrible at the same time, for being held at high rpms for long periods they excell but long life is their downfall, generally they won't run nearly as long as piston engines and the thing that they really do is drink gas, they are never very efficient and when you build them up it just gets worse, despite all this still a blast to drive and the handling is surprising good as long as you keep the proper balance.
It's awesome to see an owner who shares the passion for RXs in a way that'll inspire generations to come. Definitely one of the finest builds I've seen and those wheels are perfect.
A lot of people love these rotarys but they are just so scarce and crazy expensive in NZ anyway
I don't care what anyone says. These old RX-7s are epic to watch going down the streets. And they are like flying planes on wheels!

funny thing is Moffat ended up taking the car to Japan for development, It was the Japanese that showed him how to 'weapomise' the car😀
Can't wait to get my rx7 running right and built the rest of the way I want to
Such a nice car man. You restored it to perfection.. nice job man...👍
The Perfect Mazda RX-7🔥
That is amazingly clean, especially for a 42 year old car. Awesome

The owners smile as you drive around and react to his car is so contagious! I am grinning watching you two
Such a sick build, love it 😍

Can't beat the first gens sooo much more character than the fc and fd
Doesn’t get any better than the original😭🙌
I follow his IG already and love everything about this rx7. Love how he is keeping the more factory look, while having it be a beast under the hood.🤙🏾

Not over the top, just a dam nice build / set up, just need bigger stoppers. sweet 7 !
I'm always pretty negative on peoples builds but there is nothing I can hate on on this build goddamned.
That engine bay is so much cleaner and neater than the original. My first car was an 85. Didn’t realize how cool it was in ‘96. Kinda want one again
My first new car was an 84 FB with the fuel-injected 13B engine. Nothing else like it!
That is one nice Rx! I love the look of the stock wheels stretched out. Well done!
my toxic trait is fantasizing that I could probably build an engine
You got this brother👌
You can do it

I’m from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 I love it ❤
Who knew Henry Rollins was getting around in a sick boosted rotary?
I thought it was soul red but it was way more vibrant and brighter ❤ awesome car and rips the road
I have dreamt of making these RX7 wheels. Amazeballs.
That’s perfect. Sounds amazing. Checks so many boxes. Also, dude kind of looks like Colin Ferrel.
This thing is awesome! Right where you want a street car. Top work 💪
Gotta be one of the best early series rx7s ever
Definitely one of best in the world for sure!✨

One of my favourite series 1 rx7s. It's so on point. He's absolutely nailed what he's done with the wheels they suit the car perfectly.
Good to see the wheels are keeping with the age of the vehicle
Love this rx7 1st gen ❤ watching from Trinidad and Tobago
It just makes sense .
Back in the day they ripped, and if you could drive they where phenomenal.
Wow that’s Epic! Well done on the build! Brings back memories of my Series 2 with Series 4 Motor and my Series 4 Turbo! Loved all my 11 Rotaries!
Wheels are amazing!

I need those wheels! Stocks look sick just not a good size, but those are perfect
Love the wheels as well ❤like the bigger ones you can get for Celica/Supra 😮

This rx7 is a weapon ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Sweet looking car.

The wheels are spectacular. I wonder what those wheels cost to have made?
Yay ahh!

Stunningly beautiful..still, for an easy $130-160k spend, it should be..
