fun fact with the full game - when the f16 missiled you, he basically tore you apart. since you rearmed before you fixed your wings, you got 7 missiles instead of 8. gaijin took a aim9m as a even further punishment for flying this plane. man that hurts

Imagine flying a tornado and not knowing it has one of the most effective features to stop instantly on the runway, I have seen so many people crashing at the end of a runway because they have no idea it has that feature.

How I see it, the F-16 didn't get punished because you chose to RTB, he got punished because *he* chose to take the risk at killing you on the AF.
It was his own decision and the risks and consequences were all for himself to experience, he took the bet and failed
It's not even a risk to attack airfields at this BR with the amount of long range weapons, the F-16 was just an impatient dipshit. At lower tiers there's valid reasons to complain about airfield AA, but at top tier it takes genuine effort to let the AA kill you.
I couldn't agree more, in air RB you're meant to bleed the tickets with AI targets if your enemy goes back to base to put the pressure on.
Air RB is not team death match, you are not supposed to be rewarded for catching enemies on the runway replenishing. It makes for a frustrating exprience when you're having a good game and have to resupply.

Just wait for them to take off and get a little separation from the airfield, then go in for the kill when you can get enough time to kill but also enough separation after ward to not get shot down by the airfield.
The enemy just received all his ordnance and fuel back, he is gonna be heavy and slow, which should be easily punishable (especially in such a matchup).
Having no airfield AA would create a meta in which camping the enemy airfield would become a very viable strategy I fear.

5:20 bullshit. He could have not tried to kill you on the airfield and waited until you took off. At that position he has all the advantages. He chose to risk it for a kill and got clapped by aa, in a scenario like this its actually working as intended.
The real downer is trying to take off but tickets being a bitch and ending the game, but that is another issue not related to the airfield.
And the more recent problem is missile slinger combat where everyone throws their dookie and just goes back to land. But again, that's not an airfield problem. That is the snail's dumbass decision to remove multipathing from the game and make f14 missile slinging an actually viable strategy.

While I agree with the notion that the F-16 played it poorly and got killed for it, in my opinion deservedly so, I disagree with the airfield AA being fair. It isn't. Airfield AA, especially when it is just guns, should not be deadly. It should, at best, be casually dangerous. At the moment airfield AA is so strong that it allows people that are $hit tier players somewhere to hide and potentially win the game because the AA wins it for them. At the very least airfield AA needs to be adjusted so that it does not defend someone just flying around the airfield because they don't have the competency to actually try to win the game otherwise.
@@USAF-NGAD AA used to be nonexistent back in the day. Then airfield spawn campers in EC got Gaijin to introduce airfield AA in every game mode and tuned it to be "balanced" against what was then 8.0 jets and everything under that got clubbed. It has, more or less, been that way ever since.

As for players RTB? The game can, and does, track fuel, damage and ammo. It isn't too hard to tap into that so that airfield AA only activates when a player is critically low on fuel, seriously damaged/has coolant leak or is very low to out of ammo. When it does activate it only does so for a limited time, say 3 mins, and then turns back off with maybe a cool down attached to prevent deliberate abuse from a group deliberately trying to keep it active via deliberately spraying their ammo to try to keep base AA up. With that most instances of airfield AA abuse is instantly gone.
Idk what y'all are on about, main airfield should heavily protected, it should be a no fly zone/ safe place to land without worry of the enemy team.
It doesn’t help that every aircraft with swing wings is screwed up right now. What I heard in the video “it turns terrible” followed by “ it won’t bleed speed”. If they’d fix the flight models, the plane would actually perform like a well in turns with the wings out and could sustain a turn fight. The same can be said for the F-111; it’s missing almost 5000 lbs of thrust compared to what it should have, and you can’t even get half a turn in (even when empty on fuel) because it tries to flat spin. Same for the flight models on the Mig-23, Su-22 and F-14.
Also with the mig29. At the very least all of them lack about 2000 kg of thrust on each engine (judging by an x-ray mode)

the thing is about airfield aa is that if there aint any there are gonna be dickheads flying all the way around to camp the airfield with agm`s and other things.
i think every map should have forward airfields so you can choose between fast and dangerous and slow but safe.

Airfield AA needs to exist and it needs to be good enough to deter people from base camping , as you said. It sounds like you’ve played the game for awhile, AAA did used to suck really bad, and base camping was a real thing people did and the counter play to it also sucked. The game is better like this, although we wouldn’t even need this if they changed the way air RB even works, it goes without saying that plane gameplay is boring and needs an overhaul
Yeah but the thing is that camping the airfield with agms is not going to happen, by doing it you are removing a plane from your team, you are also hopping that the game will last long enough for people to land, and you need to not get spotted, this argument is always brought up when people discuss removing aa someone brings up someone sitting above the enemy airfield which is just not an at all viable strategie (unlike running to your af when you make a mistake and end up in a bad position) this argument is just stupid

And about base camping and such i still see way more enemy players camping the base trying to kill returning players than people sitting on the base like cowards. Without Airfield AA we would have a huge issue. Like spawncamping in Arcade. Nowadays literally a third of the players goes to camp the enemy spawn instantly.
This is not a WarThunder only issue, every single game which have bases or spawns players camp the hell out as everyone wants the effortless and easy kill.

i have pulled games out of my ass becouse i was able to rearm and engange those 1 or 2 last enemy jets fully loaded.
just yesterday i had a 7 kill game with a 72 no booster rp game becouse i was able to land safley and rearm in my mig 29 and r27er the last f16 out of the air.
( had a talisman tho)

Tip: Tornadoes have a thrust reversal system you can bind which helps slow you down a lot more during landings.

Also useable mid-air unlike the Viggen thrust reverser so it's an extra airbrake when trying to force and overshoot.

All the tornados are missing like 2Gs of turn and something called lift. The F3 specifically was also refused extra combat power in full burner like mig 21, despite the cockpit clearly having a “combat” setting written out next to the throttle. Probably because it’s not Russian.

About slowing down, Tornados have thrust reversers, which let you slow down very quickly, especially in conjunction with the airbrake.
All the Tornado can ever be is a base bomber or a missile bus. Simply don't make any attempts to dogfight. It has the 2nd best radar in the game, the best Fox-3's in the game, and very good heat seekers.

and i expected that this tornado could get an HMD would have made it easier to point the seekers towards them instead of manuvering the whole boat towards them
Even in sim this thing is tricky. If you are on the deck and the enemy is above you, you can't go cold then come back around on them in time to counter becuase your turn rate is so poor. By the time you've gone cold and decided to roll back around, another Fox3 is on it's way!
And why NOT spam you then go rearm? There's no penalty to Fox dumping and going back for more so people can do just that and your only counter in the Tornado F.3 Late is to BY CHANCE takeoff while the ENTIRE enemy team is rearming so you can get around to their flank with your radar off and blind fire at dots you see leave the enemy airfield.
Tornado F.3 Late needs 12.3 minimum if not 12.0 due it its abysmal flight model. 11.0 and 11.3 planes DO need to see SOME fox3's to get them prepared for the spams at higher tiers and ONLY having slow harriers or sluggish tornados be the ones with the Fox3's is absolutely fair and fine for 11.0+.
Point of note, the Tornado does stop really quickly if you remember to use the Thrust Reversers.
This jet is an interceptor and not meant not an air superiority fighter! So it's not supposed to do much turning!

5:16 No Defyn, I disagree. There should be a balance between the sides. The F16 got punished for choosing to chase after an out of reach target, and you got rewarded with a rearm for disengaging early enough. Had the F16 waited a little bit, he would have the easiest, most free kill in the universe.
Now for the reason WHY there should be balance: Imagine a round where you do everything perfectly and take out half of the enemy team on your own, run out of ammunition and fuel, then you return to the airfield to get a refill. There WILL be a shitter (that did nothing throughout the game) waiting for you at the airfield, and you have NO way to fight back. THAT is unfair. And I know there will be such players because they think "I'm happy if I can get at least one kill" (a quote from a player I played with before). It's the kind of players that kill themselves if they think they can get one kill.
Yes, I know airfield camping is a problem, but it can be fixed with a multitude of ways OTHER than completely removing AF AA. I will give three examples:
1) New orders can be introduced: Second wind order which would add tickets to your (losing) team, and Extra time order which would add 10-15 mins to the timer. This should give you enough resources to deal with a camper.
2) After half of the tickets/timer runs out, if someone lands and respawns, then high ticket value AI targets will appear, making AF AA camping a losing tactic.
3) Circling the AF AA active zone (3.5 km for AAA, 8 km for SAMs) should mark you as an inactive player.
And I'm sure there are more ways to deal with campers. The kind of players that choose to camp are easy to kill anyways, wave your tail at them from a vulnerable position and they rush at you to get instantly reversed.
Another thing that should be taught WT players is that leaving to hangar at your airfield does not count as a death, so people worried about their KD can just leave instead of wasting everyone's time.

You can't complain about it not being able to lose speed if you don't use its super powerful thrust reverser. If anything that plane stops short faster than anything. Even its brakes alone are mega powerful.

I disagree on airfield AA, going after planes that are landed or are landing on the defended airfield is a risk and you have to account for it, sure him not getting the kill is BS but him dying is completely on him.
I hope you know that you can just tws and switch radar targets button instead of acming and having to fumble with your buttons and move your plane around to find the guy, you would have launched the aim 120 much quicker. the radar target witch button has saved me so many times

There are planes with very limited fuel, Jets with only missiles and Bombers that have to re-arm, without AA guns players will camp the enemy base and pick them off for easy kills making those planes and play styles useless. When a player cases you back to base they know the risk involved sometimes it works and you get the kill sometimes it doesn't but you can't eliminate AA guns without making some gameplay no longer viable thus reducing the player base.

AA in airfields have should definitely stay.
Who would have guessed that the F3 that struggled at 11.3 fighting F16s and F15s in its every up tier would struggle fighting F16s and F15s with better weapons. But you cant move it down because its better then the 12.3s and Fox3s wouldnt be fair to fight in 11.3s on a supersonic platform.
Just like the F3 and other tornado, added to late to be relevant and is dead on arrival.

Every one always complaining about fuel burn. Ya’ll do realize real fighter aircraft can’t just sit on AB all day right? A full fuel load can be drained in very quick on full AB. Hence the need for inflight refueling.

F-16 got punished for his poor decisionmaking, it's not like AA popped out of nowhere and he didn't know about it. In fact AA should get even better and maps bigger.
USE THE GOD DAMNED REVERSE THRUSTERS!!! They're really good for defending too, I pulled quite a few reversals with it using the event tornado, not the 12.something tornado, probably not going to help at the new top tier but it's probably better than nothing

He simply could have waited for you to take off then make the decision to kill you.

Weird scenario when i was playing the tornado adv i was somehow keeping up in a dogfight with a mig29. The tornado seems atleast mid in a rate fight.

The first F.3 was one of the worst stock grinds I've ever had in the game. While I love the jet spaded, I really can't ever see myself grinding this one out. Damn shame

I tell you..as a British main, moving to other factions have been a real eye opener.
Compared to other factions I'm yet to determine what the Brits are supposed to be good at. Their tanks and planes after t3 suck.
I just wanna see an EC mode in RB with respawns like sim.
Those EC maps are fun, also you can have some great 1v1 dog fights.
Unsure about the late version, but you can switch between doppler and simple radar return mode while still tracking a target with the F3. This makes the Fox1s unnotchable if you know how to properly use it. Haven't played since Fox3s were introduced, so unsure if this is still relevant.
Also, I wouldn't call the Tornado bad, it's just very different in terms of playstyle. Positioning is a lot more important. You have lots of unique features (good radar modes, swing wing, heaps of flares, thrust reversers, sturdy flaps, and the FM allows you to keep your energy more easily). I have a 2.5K/D and 65% winrate over 153 games (this includes stock grind, the last 50 games prob have a 3 or 4 K/D), so it's definitely playable.
Fox 3 doesn't benefit from different radar modes

I go 7.5:1 in the regular tornado. It is not because the plane is good, it is because people cant play the game.
The late exclusively fights top planes making it even worse its more than a full BR higher. You can make it work by position well etc sure
But the other planes at the br can do that too and most of them will be better at it.
Still the f.3 late and f.3 fight vastly different aircraft they are not comparable in gameplay

It was built around amazing TWS radar performance (notice how it sweeps quite fast, providing a quick speed measurement) - to provide an overview of the tactical situation before anyone else can.
9/10 times you can take off and switch to TWS mode and 93km range, and then you get to watch the enemy fly to you for the whole time, it'll even pick out incoming radar missiles.
The radar kind of falls apart when your targets start going rear aspect, its not very good at seeing things fly away from it. Not to mention the sub-par off-boresight capabilities (feels like about 55 degrees, then they're off scope) Overall this WOULD be a bigger issue with the earlier tornado with only Skyflashes, but it makes up for this by being 11.3 with all the same stuff, and skyflashes are pretty nasty right off the rail
10/10 love killing downtiered F-14s with this thing. Give the early F.3 a try, DEFYN is absolutely right about the flight performance, it bleeds an unreasonable amount of speed in the slightest turn and at the exact same time - cant turn for shit, but its pretty quick. MiG-23s might catch you.
Also, that landing, come on. It has reverse thrust!!! (As it was meant to take off and land from austere runways a lot better than the phantom did)
