- In this flashback, Bizzy Bone and Krayzie Bone spoke about working together under the name "Bone Thugs," and they went on to address the mumble rap trend in hip-hop. Vlad then pointed out that "everyone is on a Bone Thugs vibe" today, and Krayzie explained how he and Bizzy had to come out with a brand new sound for their "New Waves" album. When speaking about mumble rap specifically, Bizzy explained that it's more about a vibe, rather than lyrics, and he went on to speak about coming from an era where lyrics were super important. Bone Thugs n Harmony still articulated their words, they were just rapping fast so it was difficult to understand but they were still annunciating everything properly it was just sped up. Mumble rap is when you don't open your mouth properly so you're speaking clearly which is why it's rubbish. You can't compare the two.

Totally different in my opinion. Bone Thug had sick phrasing that was perfect with the beat and melody. They weren't singing, they were phrasing musically. Same as E40, same as old blues singers and guitar players. With Bone, their musical phrasing WAS the melody in a sense.

I never understood the problem with mumble rap. Its a sound made for a certain kind of audience. It wasnt meant to be for everyone. Actually the opposite, meant to go against commercial music. If the kind of music YOU like isnt popping right now, blame your favorite artists.
Yeah I don’t really understand the problem with it either. People not liking it is easy to understand, I get that. But people having an actual problem with it is what I don’t get. It’s a style that serves a certain kind of audience as you said. There’s a nuance to it and why it works for the audience it’s catered to.

The difference between mumble idiot rappers and quick-tempo rappers is that Twista, Bone and JID sound coherent and make sense in their verses.

Bone is my all time favorite group and my favorite rapper is Layzie Bone (not just in Bone but favorite rapper period), and I like Future. Hell, I’m pretty sure even Bone likes Future. I been to their concerts where they play Future’s song Fuck Up Some Commas at the end of the show.
And Bizzy does mumble, so I don’t know wtf you’re talking about. Other fast rappers don’t, but Bizzy absolutely mumbled. It’s a signature part of his style. When it comes to being coherent and making sense, what doesn’t make sense about mumble rappers? I get thinking it sounds incoherent, but as far as making sense goes, they don’t make any less sense then your typical non mumble rapper.
