So,this may be a silly question for you but forgive my ignorance on this subject, lol. How would one go about finding out the information needed about one of these mirrors and also,I have some old Art pieces that are not signed and cant find them either online but one is at least 90 to 100 years old bc I have pictures of my grandparents with it in the background. Also, one of the frames is a bright gold and very detailed, anyway thanks so much for sharing your wisdom🤗✝️🤩
Thanks once again for great info, finding you on here after many years of watching resellers on UA-cam gives me that same feeling as when I find a home run item in the wild. You are the best kept secret on UA-cam, idk how you weren’t recommended to me earlier the algorithm needs to smarten up. Thanks Don
I'm actually thrilled that people are afraid to ship mirrors, it means I get them at a better price. I will ship anything so long as the buyer is paying for it.
I have a nice 4' x 4' 1994 Mirror and your video has me thinking about listing it on ebay. It would be nice to see a video about freight shipping and how you pack fragile items like this. I watched your video on the stained glass you packed to ship. You are really getting some fantastic information out to your viewers.
Thank you Sir!!! I passed on one very similar to the empire mirror in a small home with some 1800's furniture. Never will again. I grew up with antiques from the 1700 and 1800's and should know better.
This is the most helpful video in a while for me. I've passed up many similar to first two mirrors you showed from your inventory. You've earned a new Patreon member.
let me give you a good tip about mirrors if you want to know how old a mirror is get a liter and stand next to the mirror and turn the liter on keeping the flame lit look at the reflection of the flam now how many reflections of the flam do you see for every reflection of the flam you see in the mirror count ten years that how you know how old the mirror is.
I bought a brand new old fashioned mirror for $5 in 1962 and it continues to hang on my wall, a favorite piece in my home. HOWEVER, it needs to be reguilded. IF you have a second, are they worth much when you refinish them? GORGEOUS MIRRORS you are showing...I love mirrors!
I just sent a Bombay company mirror, 8 lbs, about $17 UPS ground. Paid $5 charged $76 w/free shipping. Oh… and I had it hanging on my wall in my house until it sold.
Some of those are easy to spot as vintage/antique but how do you know what is vintage/antique on all mirrors? Alot of research or just some key things to look for to identify? Thanks for the variety of items in your videos!!!
I noticed Art Nuveau being more rounded...but still very beautiful...couldn't believe I spelled it right out of the gate. Definitely need a lesson in preparation to ship.
I've been collecting mirrors the past 10 years. 😁 biggest fancy mirror was listed for 200. In iowa. Someone in New York asked for free shipping. 😂 I obviously listed way too low. So still have it. Your tips are appreciated. Will relist and try a much higher price and starting bid.
So I’ve got a large mirror probably 30x40 brass framed with brass rods down the sides and hurricane lamps with cranberry glass mounted on the rods that swivel in or out. I can’t find anything out about it or it’s value. It is antique.
Thank you for this info! I used to have an old gold huge mirror and it got broke during a move. It had detail like some of these. Now I'm curious what it was worth. Oh well it doesn't matter I got rid of it after it broke! 🤷
For bar mirrors I always put a sheet up behind me and take the picture on an angle up or down. You see the sheet but no camera or people. Also make sure to use a diffused light source and no flash, it just makes for better pickup of any lettering on the mirror. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Hi Don, Can people arrange freight on something even if you have it listed on Ebay with Local Pick up? Or do you have to specifically include freight? Also, how would you add freight to your listing? Thanks.
Hey Don, Great video, I found a rare 1960s retro fur lined headboard, with original built in 8 track, roll out mirrored back wet bar, & matching end tables & dresser with full length mirror. There are no markings on it, but wow what should i do with this awesome find? Thanks
Can you describe the actual mechanics\process of listing something as “freight” That has the Buyer arranging shipping? I’m not sure how to do this in eBay
I have a beautiful mirror the frame is very ornate but plastic bought new in 1990.. gold beautiful piece 31 years old over 4' long. Is this mirror worth very much?
Was just at an estate sale. I had a box of letters postmarked 1917 with 1 cent George Washington stamp. I had a nice older gentleman tell me the stamps werent worth much so I left them. I will never let someone talk me out of buying something again. So mad at myself. Im sure he grabbed the box after I left.
In all honesty he was more than likely correct on the stamp. That sort of thing was made by the millions. We have been into stamps for over 40 years, and would have more than likely told you the same thing. The letters themselves though could be worth something. Old love letters, or soldiers mail for the war could have carried a value.
@@TheAuctionProfessor yes they were letters from a gentleman who fought in WWI. Thank you for responding. Love your wealth of knowledge. Learning so much
If they pick it up in person you have them sign a pickup slip, and add their drivers license number to it. If it's picked up by freight you have a pickup slip as well as a delivery signature from the freight company.
Mirror mirror on the wall, which one has the biggest profit of them all? People pass on mirrors all the time. I accidentally passed on one nice beveled. I tried to get others to take it and no one would. Any kind of damage scares away 95% of resellers. Wow. Shocking how people won't even pay $ for art or posters as well. I found a poster Goodwill and a thriftstore missed that was flipped over and jigsaw puzzle glued on back. $200 poster from a Jazz festival and $40 worth of frame..
We've done this for almost 30 years, and experience is the best way. Research, and constantly looking things up is how we learned. The back of a mirror usually tells the true age. That's the first place to start.
Anyone ever sell vintage matches? I just inherited a boatload. I assume I should be looking for famous hotels, restaurants, anything related to historical events? And the rest I will lot up & sell in bulk. Some are very cool to look at, I think an artist could have a field day. Secondly.. any special precautions to keep in mind when it comes to shipping?
We sell them all the time for good money. The best ones are Feature Matchbooks. We've sold some of those for hundreds. If they have matches in them then they must only be mailed via ground. It is illegal to ship them via any other means.
@@TheAuctionProfessor oh ok. I assume they sell better if you keep the matches intact, which I prefer to do, simply because I don't want to run the risk of ruining them. Great to know they can only be shipped via ground. Makes a lot of sense. I'll let you know how it goes & if I find any premiums! So far the coolest ones have been from Sweden, really delicate packaging detail. Go figure!
Just be careful, and make sure you look them up. Looks alone aren't the determining factor, since some are modern repros, and others are vintage reproductions of even earlier times.
The Auction Professor What resources are available to make sure they aren’t reproductions? Are there labels or something on the back to indicate this kind of thing?

@@digicthus that is helpful, thx! I hate when my reflection is visible in pics..

What about just the mirror frames or if the mirror has age spots ? Do they loose their value if painted ?

Sounds like some one robbed Graceland. Does that also have a vibrating box bolted onto it that runs for a quarter?

I'm actually surprised these go for so much ! Great item to look out for !
Hello Auction Professor, I’m a new sub and would like to know more about the dresser mirrors.
I have a beautiful mirror the frame is very ornate but plastic bought new in 1990.. gold beautiful piece 31 years old over 4' long. Is this mirror worth very much?
Thanks again brother
I have a antique store and i cant get rid of mirrors yet alone those kind of prices.
Maybe you should sell them online like this video is talking about. You can get them in fromt of millions of people.
Where do you sell this mirrors....
Where do you take an item like this to be shipped?
Re: The mirror at 2:46. You can see something similar (and elaborate in quantity) in the movie "Captain Hagen's Bed and Breakfast".
Where is it that you sell all of this?
Your channel is great ! New sub here !
The first 15k mirror was local pick up only and got that much!

Garish!
Word of the day!
When you have them pick it up either on local pickup or for freight how do you prove that it was received without any tracking number? Thanks.
If they pick it up in person you have them sign a pickup slip, and add their drivers license number to it. If it's picked up by freight you have a pickup slip as well as a delivery signature from the freight company.
@@TheAuctionProfessor do you just write it on a piece of paper or do you use something specific that you bought?

I thought you were going to show how to wrap a mirror for shipping in the video????
I have another video showing that up right now.

Do a comp search on eBay for Feature Matchbooks. Those are the ones you. Most foreign matchbooks don't sell very well as a general rule.
Need more people to specialize in pick-up, and prepare to ship, and drop it off at its enroute destination.
From your comment, I’m in the wrong business. What is a good resource to learn?
