Is a 5000LB WINCH too much for my Honda Pioneer??

- In this video, I install a 5000 lb winch on the front of our Honda. I need this winch to lift and lower my plow but I also need pulling power to help move trees, logs, or even the Honda at times. SuperATV.com sent me the largest winch they make! Will it be too much winch for the Honda to handle?

Can I just say how much I appreciate that you show things not always going smoothly? As a relatively new homesteader, when plans *don't* come together as slickly as I might hope, it's really reassuring to know that someone who has a lot more experience in what we're doing still has the ocasional hiccup in course of their projects. Thanks for not editing them out.
Great video Troy. Love your sense of humor.
Sounds like you would have the times back with your son rolling your sockets around the floor in a heart beat. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I bulit a whole replacement bumper with 2 3/8" tow hooks to snatch block to an it has a 5k winch but I built everything around the winch lol. I also put a 2" receiver in the front also
Troy because of you, we ended up buying a 2021 Honda 1000-5 and so far this machine did great in our property . You are right about the accelerator pedal a bit touchy due to the dual clutch transmission rather than CVT models. Excellent videos buddy keep up the good work I watch you on a regular basis excellent information as always. Thank you again
Hope it performs well for you too. Thanks for watching!!
"Craftman back when they use to make good stuff", oh how times have changed.😔
Yep...used to jump up and down on the bumper of a 1953 Chevy to get that damned wrench to fall on through...good memories.
Good job Troy , I was expecting a photo of the cleaned driveway in the video. Lol
Nice winch ,
Photo doesn't exist, yet....
I switched from cable to rope about 10 years ago on my Jeep's winch. I have been happy with it. As noted the rope is not real abrasion resistant and you have to watch rub points. It is however way lighter and easier to pull around than cable. Also you don't have the risk factor of the rope whipping back at you if it should break. It just falls to the ground.
Yeah, I have been impressed so far. I really like the lightness of it.
You may want to put a strap on the rear of the Honda to use as a way to anchor the Honda to a tree if you were to use the wrench to pull out a stuck tractor or some other objects that may be heavier than the Honda. Less wear and tear on the Hondas brakes and transmission. Just a thought.
TY for the video sir
Thank you for the video
I would recommend the second battery with anything extra installed. The DCT trans is electric without a second battery you take to much from the DCT.
Good stuff
Hey Troy, love the channel. I have a pioneer too. If your planning on running much more than the winch (light bar, pods) you will want to install a dual battery setup. The clutches on the pioneer require a certain amount of voltage to operate smoothly.
Ah, good to know. I will have to add another soon. Thanks!
I was joint going to post about the second battery... I 2nd what Scott said
Not just a second battery, but the TruAM isolator. It ensures your accessories won't drag down the primary battery if, by chance, you drag down the auxiliary (second) battery.
Yes. Even if your vehicle is caked in mud and stuck in mud at a drastic angle it's too much. Lol. Plus it takes more energy and wears down the battery faster. I have the Honda Pioneer 1000 5 EPS.
I have just purchased a 2021honda Pioneer 1000-5. I am installing an aux battery. I also plan to install a winch, 52” light bar, two LED back up lights, with room for additional accessories. My question: should these items be powered by the aux or main battery? Or both?
I assume you hooked the synthetic rope to a chain then to the tree?
Great video, Troy how long is the cable? To me it liked the tree was 100 feet.
Cable is 50 feet. I have a couple feet left.
Are you familiar with the movie "The Gods must be crazy?" There is a scene where the winch on the Range Rover lifts it up into a tree. 5,000 lbs should be able to duplicate that.
Great movie. Love how the Range Rover rolls back and forth on the mountain.
Eaton makes a 50 ton hydraulic winch you can try.
The remote should have batteries in it.. You need to push both buttons at the same time to turn it on and off
HA! I just found that out from SuperATV. I had one of those ID10T errors on my part.
You Sir are a great and funny guy. Winch, Wench I do the same thing with my Wife. All great humer.
I bought my 1000-5 based much on your Polaris - Honda video. Getting ready to add a winch... my wench thinks I am wasting money.
Just curious. How long did that task take you? It seemed simple by explanation; however, watching the video it looked like it turned into more of a chore?
Check out the Outdoors With The Morgans channel. He has a snatch block which will allow you to pull out logs at right angles.
Very familiar with using one of those.
I still say the snow is better than the mud. So be sure to procrastinate on the plow please.
Then you have to come over and help me shovel it...
I have to say your the only one that uses a socket wrench instead of a cordless impact
Your the only one that spells impact like endpack 😂
If it don't pull on your sxs apart
always go overboard with a winch
