      I don't live too far from Arthur ave where he was arrested. Someone accused him and and they charged him on hear say,with not one iota of evidence. It could of happened to any person of color. Look at all the people the innocence project have freed. Some wrongly convicted did 30 years. Some even died in jail innocent. Racism is alive and well.

    How the fuck can u violate probation if you're never found guilty? I fucking hate this system. This story is literally so heartbreaking & is happening to many others in jail right now. It's truly a shame that this had to happen for them to even consider dismantling solitary confinement for adolescents. Not even animals are treated in a vile environment, yet here we are in 2017 with this still going on. I am so disgusted. His mother is such a strong individual I can tell kalief gets his strength from her. He will never be forgotten for being courageous & standing up to what's right even if he's putting his own well being at risk. A shame he has to take his own life just to be at peace in this fucked up society. RIP to him and his lovely mother. Love you kalief ❤️

    Unfortunately they have a lawyer who's foiling under pressure, I understand he's trying to make a big statement, but his rhetoric is backfiring.

    • @aarondavenport3143
      @aarondavenport3143 8 років тому

      of course he is but he's being to political, for instance he keeps cutting off the mother to make his legal points

    • @aarondavenport3143
      @aarondavenport3143 8 років тому +1

      the point of the interview is to incite rage and disdain in the audience. the lawyer doesn't allow the mother time to grieve, to process or to answer the questions she's being asked. Moreover he stumbles for words and while his intentions are noble his execution is poor. the interviewer can even pick up on this which is why she continuously cuts off the lawyer from making scripted remarks. you have no understanding of rhetoric i agree with what you're saying and I am just as enraged with the situation, if you've seen my posts on previous videos you'll know exactly how I feel about the political and social nature of this crime against society. However if something is to be done about it the lawyer is hindering that resolution at best. This interview is to evoke pathos it is supposed to transcend political and incite an emotional response to what we can all deduce for ourselves as a political problem. I'm sorry you can't see what I'm showing you but they should have given her a better lawyer that's all there is to it. He fumbles over his own words and doesn't give the mother the spotlight she deserves and the potential movement desperately needs

    • @aarondavenport3143
      @aarondavenport3143 8 років тому

      I agree, and after holding those responsible accountable for their actions (i.e. police) we need a system that teaches us our rights, so that we remember that the laws are made to protect us not the police, not the government, but the governed. When a cop pulls us over they need to know that they are every bit as vulnerable to the law as the people they are pulling over. They need to know that pulling over a citizen means that person knows their rights to the point that they don't need a lawyer and that they do more than lose their jobs, they need to be suspetible to death row just like eveyrbody else. I've gone on aboutt his subject too long to go on another spiel about it. But at the end of the day is we need a population that knows they hold the power, and law enforcement that understands it's the people that pay their bills, and it's the people they serve and its the people who have the power

I don't give a fuck about none of the shit he did before this it still doesn't condone the shit he went through. he was only 16 years old when all this happened. so for one why was he even questioned without a lawyer or guardian present. this case was corrupt from the beginning. you might as well say he real died that day in the interrogation room. cuz that was the moment that the old khalif was no more. #justiceforkhalif

    I don't understand the mother. In 3 years, she never got the chance to find the 3000$ to bail him out? Not even the 10%? If my kid was in jail, let alone one of the worst jails in the country, there's nothing I wouldn't do to raise the money to get him out. Rikers Island killed her son's spirit, I hope they will pay. Kalief brought awareness.

      No, Sir ~ you have me mixed up. I was dragged out my house illegally in my underwear on the 9th of this month....by 4 male officers, no bodycams and no warrant. Forcing their way in, didn't tell me what they were at my house for. I was terrified. I'm not looking for a scapegoat. I know what JAIL and PRISON is.......and, .actually I believe I was wrong about the bond; I researched more into it. Some say it was a 1k bond, though I heard it was $300.......This is one of the most heartbreaking cases I have ever heard and I get tears every time I see it...I worked in criminal law in S Florida. Unless you bond out, you don't have the chance to fight charges when you're sitting inside. The government then can do as they please as they did to this young man. I am mortified by what he had to go thorough......but I have a mother that don't give a fuck if I live or die. I think you should roll up your sleeves and get to it, if you put kids out into the world. I'm a woman, I know this for a FACT. No scapegoat. Three years is long enough to come up with bond, just saying....he'd probably be alive today.
      As far as the people who did what they did to him, including the judges, and the guards; they should all be FIRED, and penalized to the FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW!!!! This young man .....did not deserve to go out like this, I've watch a ton of documentaries on him. RIP KALIEF BROWDER........
      (and, lets not make this into a racial issue, or a political issue; because I'm part black myself. This is a human issue.)

    • @mirellalastar
      @mirellalastar 8 років тому +6

      I fully agree with you. Blaming the victim or his mother is much easier than blaming the system. Just because she doesn't hold the trophy of the mother of the year doesn't mean that Kalief had to spend three years in Rikers without a trial, put in solitary confinement or get beaten . I just can't help as a mother myself being a little angry at her for not bailing him out asap. I would blame myself for the rest of my life if I was her.

    • @venettabejenaru8498
      @venettabejenaru8498 8 років тому +7

      I feel for the mother ~ I truly do. But as a legal professional; if you are being FUCKED with like he was, you have to get him OUT; he is not the only one!! He was STRONG. Probably one of the STRONGEST YOUNG MEN I've ever seen; I would have plead out myself first chance I got, Rikers? Please..... But he didn't feel he should have to, because he was innocent. I have plead out to things when innocent before..... I think people should take not of this story and do something about it. I truly do........the system MUST me punished for this. Not just talk, action. And anyone can write a letter to get started.....they should be flooded with letters.....and demands for the judges to step down.

    Kalief lawyer took 31 remands, never setting a trial date.
    Kalief was offered numerous plea bargains, by the crown, but, chose not to take any of them.
