He was 16! He had plans, goals, dreams - it didn’t matter to them, HE didn’t matter to them. No prom, no SAT’s, no finals. Youth terminated early.
The judge and attorneys responsible are still employed, no consequences for them, no love lost - but his spirit was crushed in that hellhole, he never recovered - his family never recovered.
It’s unfathomable - it happens to people EVERYDAY in big cities like NY, in rural, southern towns. People who choose to plea, because they aren’t as strong as Kalief was. He was strong and it cost him his life...

@@tomwoods8678 It wouldn't though. The Mexican dude brought his concerns to the cops, saying it was 2 guys robbing him after which they didn't do a single shit. There was alleged camera footage of the robbery and was never consulted or checked. He apparently got kind of desperate and panicky, changing the story to one black guy robbing him, after which the cops gladly took the route arresting Kalief who was incidentally walking by the spot where the robbery happened.
Don't get me wrong, the consequences of the Mexican immigrant changing his story have shown to be severe and fucked up. But, these cops lowkey pushed him to changing up the stories and sweating him by not pursuing the case. Indirectly, he sent these authoritative, racist scumbags on a path to arrest the first black guy on the spot. Subsequently, I think the biggest and ugliest culprit in this whole situation is this fucking precinct and perhaps the majority of the American police authorities. "People of the state" are regularly destroying lives by activating a blood-hungry frenzy, actively profiling black people. This problem is on a grand scale and this shit has been going on for decades. It's sad.
A young soul loses his life for nothing and the Mexican immigrant's backpack is still stolen and might read about the chaos that ensued because of his verbal actions. Sadly, partly due to underlying pressure. Putting a label on him for the rest of his life. It won't truly affect him, yet I am sure this will have some kind of impact either on the people that know him or his own sanity.

@@crishnaholmes7730solitary confinement was ended it NYC jails for 16 and 17 year olds. There was some bail reform where nonviolent crimes have no bail. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t have made a difference in this case because robbery is considered a violent crime. Other than that, not much. Rikers Island is still an extremely dangerous jail to go to. The death rate in that jail is still very high. The City is supposed to be closing the jail at some point in the next few years but they don’t have any alternative plans to house inmates or provide different ways to deal with arrests like this (rehabilitation or halfway houses instead of punishment/incarceration.) So minimal changes have actually happened.

How could he possibly have served 15 for a bag (he never stole!) knowing that rapists convicted in France generally serve less than 3 with the right after jail time to resettle in the location where their victims still reside, without probation officer and under no psychiatric surveillance whatsoever?!!! 🤢🤮

This is unconstitutional. Every citizen has a right to a speedy trial. Habeus Corpus. You can waive your right to speedy trial and I'm assuming his public pretender probably had him waive his rights. Welcome to the criminal "justice" system. Justice for some.......if you have the funds.
