    One of the things that called my attention the most is the fact that you also included when you fell in the video. I just started learning skating, and I have fallen about five times already in two months. I do not practice every day. The very first day I started, I sprained my left ankle. Therefore, I had to stop for a few weeks. I am doing it again at home, but very lightly. I am not recovered 100% just yet. The fact that you have included yourself falling, something that I never see in other videos from others, tells me that I am not the only one who falls. I think I will always fall as long as I skate. Just like you, I also wear padded pants, and full safety gear. Thanks!

      Thanks for letting me know you appreciate the inclusion of failures. I very rarely fall when doing things I have mastered already, but I fall on average once per session when I practice new moves. I find it important to show the real the risk of falling, and that it's a normal part of the learning process. As long as I wear all the protection (padded shorts, helmet and wrist protectors) falling backwards seems one of the least risky directions for me to fall. I'm worried most about falling sideways, twisting my legs in an awkward way, or breaking a collar bone. Luckily, so far I had no injuries that couldn't heal within 3 weeks. Hope you recover soon too, and be safe!

      We all fall, the higher the risk the more often you fall. Better to learn to fall first.

      Skating for several years now I can almost make sure I am not falling when skating for fitness (eg. long distance). But whenever I do technic training I fall five times per hour haha 🙂

    Man, I find this scissor stance mad difficult, I liked your tutorial very well explained. Please keep the tutorials coming.
    I just started skating a week ago I'm 41, and I was wondering if you could give me some guidelines on how to adjust my frames there's not much about it. Thanks!

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  9 місяців тому

      You're still a couple of years younger than me then! For the frame adjustment I will make a video after finishing the powerslide series. I think the most common reason to adjust frame offset is for people who are pronating because they have flat feet (a low/collapsed foot arch). Try to do a full skating session (half an hour or more) where you keep your skates on center edge constantly. So never let your feet lean to the inside or outside (dropping away from center edge will lead to an inconclusive observation).
      During and at the end of this session, observe where you feel pain/strain in your feet. Do you feel like you have to stand more on one side of your foot than the other, in order to remain standing on center edge? Do you feel pain/pressure points mainly on one side of your foot or ankle?
      If there's no clear one-sidedness in those 2 observations, then probably your frame doesn't need any offset adjustment.

    Thank you! So helpful to have my balance problem with scissors explained.

    This was really helpful, thank you very much! Just started inlining (at 52 yrs old). I'm on day 7and I'm doing quite well, but I've been feeling SO insecure and unnatural on scissors. I have some very basic roller skating experience from childhood, and I ski a bit, so I'm hoping that I'll make similar progress to you. Practising about 60-90 minutes a day. You look like you've been doing it for years!

      @InlinePilot  Рік тому +4

      Thanks! I only practiced once a week in 2-3 hour sessions, with basic practice at home a couple of days in between. Though I did take quite some risk in pushing the backwards skating even though I found it really scary for a long time. Great that you are starting at that age! I think the ski-experience can probably help a lot. The best way to take it easy is to build up the leg strength to bend the knees as much as possible so you can stay very low all the time. It makes the ground much less scary than skating with stretched legs 😆. Good luck and have fun!

    This was the video I needed. I started skating yesterday and for the life of me I just can’t figure out how to scissor my feet, and therefore can’t do parallel turns! I’ll practice gliding on one foot for a while and see if that helps. I hadn’t thought of that. Thank you!

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  9 місяців тому +2

      Just let your legs do the learning for you. It's like they have their own intelligence. But you have to give them something to work with, by swiveling a little left and right , while you glide. Let me know if it helps or not.

    • @MyHam-os4bq

      @@InlinePilot it did help! I was able to do a parallel turn, it just wasn’t very graceful. And I took a little tumble the first time lol. But now that I’ve had my first fall, I’d say that fear isn’t really getting in the way all that much anymore. I’m definitely making progress, though. Thanks for the tips!

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  9 місяців тому +1

      That's awesome! Except for the tumble of course. I'm sure you'll be flying through those parallel turns soon! :)

    2:00 I have literally no clue when it comes to inline (thus why I am here lol) but with my experience with Ice skates. Balancing on one foot strengthens your ankles. That ability to do inner and outer edge control bridges the gap to more skills and maneuvers very quickly. Started skating 4 months ago and I can do crossovers, backward crossovers, transitions, mohawks, and oddly enough one legged hockey stops(only on the left currently? lol) You can achieve a ton of stuff getting your legs used to balance. Though I know there is a variable difference between Ice skating and Inline skating, I look forward to the challenge off season. Thanks for the in-depth video.

    • @InlinePilot

      Just keep feeding your legs those balancing drills and they will eventually figure it out by themselves. It's like legs have their own intelligence 😆

    Awesome video. I consume so much skate content but don’t have focused practice. This video has helped me figure out what I want to do with my next session

    nice landing 👍👍you drive in the direction in which you turn your head and shoulders. Keep that in mind.

    Genius, never heard someone calling it that but for specialisedsmalltopic channels like this I guess it is, I'll steal that term.

    When you are turning in that paralel style how is te weight distriburion? Is there more weight in yor inside or outside leg? Thanks for the video.

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  5 місяців тому +1

      In the beginning I put more weight on the outside leg, because I found it scary to rely on the outside edge with the inside leg. 50/50 is okay too. If you put most weight on the inside leg, it is called a "Lunge turn". Putting most of your weight on the back wheels keeps the front wheels a bit lighter, to make turning easier.

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  5 місяців тому

      @@atilla8773 Thanks, yeah the outside edge has been one of the biggest hurdles for me as well. I always felt safer having the inside leg slacking, as a back up for when the other would slip out. Riding that outside edge went totally against my instinct of self-preservation 😅. You'll get use to it if you keep at it. Start small, maybe doing some shallow S-curves, then just keep expanding those curves until you feel more confident relying on that inner foot pushing you through the turn.

    are you using a rockered frame? I'm struggling to understand why turning is so hard on my skates

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes I have been using a rockered frame since the beginning. It's much easier to turn at low speed than a flat frame. On a normal flat frame you need to roll faster before you can turn easily. But it also helps to put your weight more on the back of the skate, lean into the turn, bend your knees and use/swing your upper body first to get into a turn.

    Very interesting video , I like your protections , which brand is it ?

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  Рік тому

      Thanks! I can't recommend the knee- and elbow pads I'm wearing in this video. They're from Triple8. Now instead I wear soft ALK13 knee pads because they stay better in place, allow better movement and have protection on the side of my knees too, which is where I mostly hit my knees.

    the thing is, i cant make a turn, because in my mind, the wheels are straight to front, how do i able to make a turn with it? do you just drag it?🥲

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot  5 місяців тому +1

      Can you already glide on one leg, keeping your balance by correcting the direction of the skate? That only works if you can actually change the direction of your skate with your weight on it. It helps to bend your knee so that you can use more force to swivel the skate under you, to change the direction. It's harder with a flat (normal) wheel setup at low speeds. Short frames or rockered wheels make it much easier at low speeds. You can make a rocker yourself, by replacing the middle two wheels with new wheels, once you have worn down your current wheels a bit.
      Making a parallel turn with your feet in the scissors position works by turning the front skate in, relative to the back skate. You can start by doing small slaloms when gliding, in the scissors position, by rocking your upper body left and right.
