Sounds like a good investment. I wouldn’t call a new housing estate “regeneration” though, rather expansion that will increase traffic, have no schools, local shops or other services. I do love meat covered in pastry and will bookmark that shop for a visit sometime. A question about the houses, subsidence in mining towns and asbestos would be a concern.
Hi, thanks for watching. About 7:10 in on the video, there is an open piece of land that used to be a school, this was demolished and a huge new school built with leisure facilities a few years back. Plenty of small businesses still open, 2 x fuel stations, 2 x supermarkets (Asda / ALDI) with a massive Tesco and Cortonwood Retail park just minutes away. The increase in traffic has already been taken care of with the Goldthorpe Bypass and work on expanding the Dearne Valley Parkway so plenty of services mate. The pork pies were absolutely awesome.

Imagine the investment needed to build a new mine - the new roads, the surface machinery, the mining machines, the shafts and tunnels, the training of miners, the power stations, chemical works and other outlet networks. Our mining infrastructure took a thousand years to create and ten years to destroy. It was destroyed by design - to cripple the working class and enrich foreign oligarchs. Spent a lot of my youth in Goldthorpe(Nora St.) where my Nan nan lived, was always a vibrant friendly community & that cancer Thatcher obliterated that community. The Tories & Thatcher ripped the heart & soul out of Barnsley, not just Barnsley but massive parts of Britain. There is still that community but it's not like it used to be. My uncle Alan owned Elmurst butchers when he was alive. As for B.M.B.C I think they have been brilliant trying to keep our communities afloat.
I was raised in Goldthorpe up to been about 7, and my mother is from there too. From Jackson street. Back in her day in the 50s 60s and 70s she didn't consider it to be rough. Its only post 80s when its taken a tumble. Honestly, great community though. Ive still got memories of how fantastic some of the people are from the area. I'm from a town in the County Durham coalfield (Washington)..... When I first started primary school, there was 4 pits in the town. F-Pit, Usworth Colliery, the Glebe Pit, where me dad worked, and Harraton Colliery. By the time I left school, 11 years later, THERE WAS NONE..... Oh, BTW.... The Tories closed one, and LABOUR CLOSED THREE. So let's not get carried away with the lazy 'Maggie closed all the pits' tropes. Harold Wilson (Labour), in one parliament, closed more than twice as Maggie did in 3 parliaments. (And I'm not a Tory, Reform all the way for me).
Nothing to do with immigration then. All self-inflicted by both Tory and Labour. The country has been a desert since the 1970s. Immigrants might be just what the country needs as the locals have screwed up big time.
Yes, it’s a great shame that the country couldn’t produce coal cost effectively. It became cheaper to import it from Poland. It was a salient message about government trying to run industries. When it became cheaper to import coal that was the death knell for the pits. I’m given to understand that there is 400 years worth of coal still under our feet! If this mad dash for nett zero goes awry we may need that resource, as well as the oil and gas in the North Sea, but at what cost? We’re already importing oil and gas anyway, so all we’ve achieved so far is to move the CO2 emissions abroad. Still, at least the Environment Secretary can say; “it wasn’t us”. How lovely. Meanwhile we’re going to spend billions on short term solutions, and on equipment that is environmentally unfriendly, has a finite lifespan, is produced in countries that are pumping out most of the world’s carbon but, Hey - it wasn’t us!

In Goldthrope on new estate called Iris you can buy houses for as little as £300,000.
Regeneration and development mate. Stunning views over the countryside
@AbroadYorkshire I was glad that two buildings in town centre was knocked in last couple of years including Goldthrope Hotel and the other one was near the library. But regarding the new houses this Iris development is crazy expensive and gardens are very small and proximity to the road. Barnburgh View and Bella Wood View are better and cheaper. Margaret Thatcher deserved respect but I do understand people frustration, this place was neglected for many years. There will be new industrial estate too near the new roundabout.

Even if the house was free and you offered me £500k to live there, I still wouldn't move. I value my freedom too much to be able to say (and write) what I want to say online whenever I want to say it. I don't like the idea of being locked up just for speaking the truth online. Britain has gone full Hitler/Stalin (take your pick - they're both cut from the same Far Left cloth). The high taxes, high inflation, terrible weather -- no thanks! Don't get me wrong ... Our mining infrastructure took a thousand years to create and ten years to destroy. It was destroyed by design - to cripple the working class and enrich foreign oligarchs.
It’s such a shame buddy that all of the industries that kept such places alive are all gone.
