It would be nice mate, but I’m not sure the young uns would have the character to go down the pit these days. I once took a group of 17 year old apprentices from college down the mine at the National Coal mine museum near Wakefield, all they did was moan that their hands were getting mucky and the helmet was ruining their hair !

Hi, thanks for watching. About 7:10 in on the video, there is an open piece of land that used to be a school, this was demolished and a huge new school built with leisure facilities a few years back. Plenty of small businesses still open, 2 x fuel stations, 2 x supermarkets (Asda / ALDI) with a massive Tesco and Cortonwood Retail park just minutes away. The increase in traffic has already been taken care of with the Goldthorpe Bypass and work on expanding the Dearne Valley Parkway so plenty of services mate. The pork pies were absolutely awesome.

You couldn’t be further from the truth there Andrew. Despite it’s poverty, Goldthorpe remains very safe and holds a proud sense of community who go out of their way to help each other.

Those fields are all farm land, green belt or whats left of the old collieries that are now part of the Trans Pennine Trail. I’d like to say they wont be built on, but with the current lot in charge, thats not a guarantee sadly.
