"Some of those that work forces... are the same that burn crosses..." - Rage Against The Machine, Killing In The Name Of. For the case of Kayla Norton, notice that she uses her white-woman tears, claiming that she would never have said those words (which she did) and she is sorry that it happened to them (not acknowledging that she herself did it). Instead doing anything to improve themselves, they're ALWAYS the victim, always the bullies! @@bigbk3278 This is not a seat belt law or a driving while using a mobile phone type law, it was treating people like animals and holding their lives with no value.
And by the way, it didn't stop after a FEW years! Laws were CREATED against Vagrancy, so that the authorities were able to go into a home with any male over 13 and put them into prison for being a vagrant. Once in jail, they were able to be hired out for free labor. Sounds to me like the law only went into affect for the namesake of making SLAVERY illegal, even though they kept it going under a different guise.
Well was it over after a few more years? NO! From 1857 to 1950 (not so long before I was born) there were over 4,400 Lynching's of Black men and even pregnant women, such as with Mary Turner. And those were just the ones that were recorded.
Well after that for a certainty, things must have finally been good for us. No more mistreatment? Um that would be when I was growing up, when Blacks were killed during the Civil Rights.
I am so disgusted by the naivety of white Americans, They honestly believe that 1865, the end of Slavery, was the beginning of when Black people were treated fairly with the same rights. You are sooooo wrong. We fricken STILL DEAL with shit!
We are not still treated as the same, with the same opportunities that you have just by walking out the door, white! Don't believe me, shadow a black friend for a month and tell me that all the bad treatment is in the past.
I was about to give some examples, but it is not even possible, cause it would take HOURS.
Just understand that no, it did not take a few years for the laws to go into affect and then it was all good.
Type in "How many Presidents of the united states of america were racist? These are the TOP, most influential individuals. Then come back and tell me when we were finally treated the same, and all the promises were kept!

Strong point, Dave. What made me so angry--he had a full life and the 3 students did not. Talk about an example of systemic racism. There appeared to be an upswing in these racial groups like the KKK after Obama was elected--the outcome of the 2008 election was shocking to some of these people. Drove home the point the country had changed. The 'othering' that has been embraced to explain change since has only exacerbated in the ugliest ways. Far easier to blame 'other' people than basic changes (technology/automation). Sometimes it feels like people are looking for bumper sticker solutions to their life's problems.

Daz, I've heard you and your wife Gaynor talk about your time living in the US.
I've seen a couple of other UA-camrs who plan to visit or recently visited the US, and what gets me is that each of you discuss food and sights to check out, but I've never heard anyone say they plan to visit to learn more about Americans. If you've discussed visiting places I've listed below, I'm glad to know it.
What I mean by that is I don't hear about anyone visiting Civil Rights Museums, Native American Festivals or museums, Southern plantations that have been preserved to show the mansions of the masters and the shacks of their slaves.
As a black woman (multiracial... descendant of Africans, Irish, Choctaw, Cherokee, white Irish and Jewish) living in Alabama, I can understand that people come from overseas thinking that the big cities up North and California are all about America, but I just wish that people would actually take time to know how this country came to be, and how so many people of color helped to build it.
Please pass the word about how much more there is about the US than food, Walmart, fast food, and skyscrapers.
Also, people make it known these days that they're part of racist hate groups with stickers on their car rear windows, and I've been in a backwoods area where people had signs in their yards that say "N word, go back", and "Ni----s will be shot". This was about seven years ago. One of our close family friends is white, and loves people of all races and never "sees color". While she was visiting here seven years ago, we went for a ride after lunch, and when she turned on a certain road to the backwoods in on the mountain, I told her I probably wouldn't be safe there and she should turn around. She said it's just a shortcut and she wanted to show me where her grandmother used to live. When she saw all the signs, banners, flags, etc in front of several broken down, but occupied homes, she was shocked. She said when she was little, black, white and Native Americans all lived up there and got along great, and that's how she was raised to love everyone.
I was pretty upset and she apologized for not listening to me, but she hadn't been there in at least forty years. She started crying and asked me to forgive her for taking me to such a place as she hoped I knew she wouldn't do anything like that on purpose.
I forgave her, we went on our way, safely, thank God. We've talked about it a few times since and she's still sorry. I told her that I appreciate that she "doesn't see color", but she needs to remember that just because some white people she knows tolerate black people, doesn't mean they have any love for them, and the same for black people and others.

It shouldn't confuse you because this is 5th grade history..or 5th grade level of critical thought duh...the white supremacist colonizers went global..the "conservative" rightwing..code for white supremacist ideologies and agenda never left...even law enforcement was and still is the original slave patrols that's including military courts judges etc etc it's called SYSTEMATIC RACISM so of course Mexico all of Latin America plus the Carribean even Asia and Africa...SELL OUTS..OVERSEERS UNCLE RUCKUS SAMBOS existed they hail to their white masters even though they are not Caucasian they would sell their mom to please his white master...it's set in the way all nations of people of color govern...so the white supremacists will always be in power...it's due to a LACK OF EDUCATION plus well planned moves by traitors in power

Hispanic isn’t a race category anywhere in the world. The KKK members don’t accept people solely based on skin color. If you are Jewish or Catholic, you can be pasty and blonde and they will hate you. Also I am about your complexion and when I went to North Africa most people were this complexion. In the USA, those people are legally white. Not to the KKK.

when i was a kid back in the late seventies the klan tried to set up on a public intersection in order to find new dumbass members.
they lasted about 15 minutes because word got out and citizens of every color drove by and spit on them threw gross things on them and generally humiliated the snakes into slithering back into their incestious nests.
savannah was always for the most part a city of neighbors and we looked out for our neighbors regardless of ethnicity

I have a couple of things to say about this video.
As the parent of a cognitively challenged child,I have always advocated for the R word to be eradicated in reference to people like my child.
However, that being said, I agree with you that those individuals are indeed the definition of the R word. They are not disabled but act as if they are and THAT is where the word should apply!
I'm also a native Minnesotan and when the George Floyd protests were taking place, many of the disturbances such as vandalism to commercial property and escalation of white supremacy, many of those acts were in fact done by local law enforcement in plains clothes caught on camera and identified by family as participating in mayhem, destruction of property and threatening behavior but were NEVER charged, let alone convicted. Along with out of state agitators who are affiliated with white supremacy groups.
The people who buy into racism on ANY side are IMHO slow. It's vulgar to even discuss it as an indicator of ones person. No one CHOSE to be their "race." You're born, you grow up and life throws all kinds of crap your way. Just because you haven't experienced something does not make another's experience invalid. It's merely that you have yet to walk a mile in their shoes. Casting aspersions and making blanket statements about anyone for any reason is absurd and the people who do that, need to get their heads checked.

I can relate to Daz in that I was born over seas and lived out side the US for seven years. My parents are from eastern Tennessee. From my point of view hate groups in the US particularly the southern states are directly related to the Civil War. The South was a defeated country. Thus suffered and lagged behind the the rest of the country. Maybe similar to how the Irish view the English.
