- Chances are if you're a Qatari woman you've been asked this question a million times -- can Qatari women marry a non-Qatari man. Click to watch as Aisha puts an end to the debate once and for all!
(The answer is yes -- but there are some steps you need to follow first!) You need to get permission from the government, and also her family as well. So don't go getting too excited yet guys!
So…just what are the steps you need to take in order to marry a non-Qatari? Here’s what you need to do:
• The prospective Qatari husband or wife will need to submit a letter addressed to the Marriage of Foreigners Committee stating who is the foreigner they want to marry. Details that must be included are nationality, a photocopy of their ID, and their guardian’s ID.
• You’ll also need to submit the following supporting documents:
A photocopy of the non-Qatari spouse’s passport and a passport-size photograph.
A salary certificate for both spouses in Arabic.
A copy of the birth certificate of the non-Qatari spouse of they were born in Qatar.
A certificate of relation if applicable.
In cases of previous divorce of either spouse, a copy of the divorce certificate.
In cases of the death of the spouse’s guardian, a copy of the death certificate.
• Specifically, for Qatari females, if the non-Qatari spouse resides outside of Qatar, a salary certificate is required, plus a verified medical certificate, and a police clearance letter for good behaviour.
• All documentation must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Qatari Embassy.

A few years ago I tried marrying a Saudi woman, harder than a PhD in Quantum Mechanics I tells ya. The answer was yes but the process is designed to frustrate and dissuade you. I gave up.
Its the same scenario throughout the Arabian Gulf. Basically, the laws are designed for guys like you & me 'Hey! keep off our respective women' - so, if foreigners marry local women, the very fabric of Qatari nation will start eroding, got the point? Basically, they want Qatari's to continue the Qatari blood to be strong & not mixed.

Since I’m From a Sunni Syrian family I’d like to say here we don’t need government approvals we just need approvals from the parents.
I wish the answer was it depends on whom is asking and more importantly why? I have witnessed failed marriages of that type as the groom had one thing in mind”residency” or investment in marrying a Qatari women. No disrespect to any nation but mainly this this the objective of the man whom raising this type of question, before I get the hate mail, Qatari women are raised as women of family and honor mostly, and thier culture is very much different, I would advise my sisters out their to take extrem caution when accepting proposals from someone whom is looking at them as ATMs and not as humans with hearts and feelings.
Just my humble opinion on Qatari women marrying non Qatari or basically the other way around, a Qatari man marrying anon Qatari women.

Nice try...doesn't actually happen. Qatari families, in general, are too close-minded for them to have their daughter marry a Non-Qatari. The whole process you describe was put in place in order to deter such marriages (i.e. Qatari woman-foreigner).
Why do I need a "permission" from anyone (let alone a government!) in order to marry the woman of my dreams? The whole thing doesn't make sense. What does, however, is the fact that Qatari families, in general, have double standards. They may not mind their son marrying a foreigner (as long as she's Arab?), but daughter to marry a foreigner??? Ha! Get in line Mr Foreigner, you'll have to wait for the next 5-10 years.
Let your women choose their husbands without interference. Come to think of it...the question should be "are Qatari women allowed to marry outside their families?".

My mother is BRITISH.
In my family, we have German, British, Bahraini, Saudi, Syrian, Italian and American Aunts and Uncles.
And of course I have friends who have married Americans, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Austrian, and other nationalities. And no, these friends are not all make. They are also Qatari women.
To answer your question, are Qatari women allowed to marry outside their families. Answer: yes.
In regards to needing to get permission to marry a non-Qatari, that’s the only thing that I will agree with you on. I think they should remove this permission rule.
I’m Qatari and this guy is just speaking because he’s a guy, not a girl. Being a girl, from an old well known family now modern, it’s hard saying you want to marry for example a Korean or a Chinese or a Philipino mainly because of, yes, RACIST issues. Marriage is not valid without father's approval.
According to Shariyah the father
has total rights to forbid his child, be it a daughter or son to marry a certain man, but has to have a reason for that (i.e. the man is alcoholic, gambler, impious, not able to deal with money, idler, etc.).
Anyone not seeking permission for marriage is not just disobedient to his parents, but also to Allah.

I masha’allah Allahumah Barik Alhamdullilah lived in Qatar for 10 years and what I can say is a lot of Qataris (particularly more traditional/cultural) put emphasis on the man’s family/tribal status when it comes to marriage. Of course, the more religious the traditional/cultural Qataris are, the more they’ll emphasize religiousness over family/tribal status. You also have the more globalized Qataris who put very little emphasis on family/tribal status and sometimes unfortunately a lot of the time, not that much emphasis on religiousness. Then ofc you have the Qataris who put more emphasis on religiousness and little emphasis on family/tribal status; however from what I know of, they’re not easy to find. How hard? That’s not really for me to judge, since I just went to school there. But for the Qataris I’ve known there, most of them uphold the tribal/family status tradition; ofc the degree varied a lot.
Despite other downfalls and things that went downhill, Qatar has left a special place in my heart and I do intend to live there insha’allah in the future. And who knows, maybe I’ll find someone who prioritizes religion and not family/tribal status very much, and who’s father has those priorities.😁 Just a notice for yall out there, in Islam, a Muslim woman can’t marry a non-Muslim man, and a Muslim woman has to have at least her father approve of the man, otherwise the marriage will be invalid. If something happens to the father, then the uncle. Then the oldest brother I think. Basically, a male chaperone/guardian (called Wali in Arabic).
My advice for Qatar, before I return insha’allah, make sure to preserve your Islamic values. Other countries unfortunately have loosened up and given up their religious values to appeal more to foreigners so make sure to be the country that stands out from the rest, as you guys did during the blockade.
