  • As I continue to learn and play with my new audiovisual setup I can now present 4K vids on the channel!
Today out to Robin Hoods Bay for the first time in about 6 months to have a long walk from the little village around towards Hawsker giving us a chance to fossil hunt through a lot of rocks ranging from the lower and middle Lias up to the upper Lias rocks that regular viewers will be more familiar with on this channel.
Come along for this hunt and apologies for some minor microphone issues about half way through but they do not affect the hunting at all.

Thanks! Always good to get out, and fun to collect somewhere I don't visit that often.

All androgs at the start, find them often in those shelly blocks along the holderness too👍

Good to know, thanks! I'm sure I misidentify an awful lot in the lower and middle lias. Might need to do more Holderness exploring where you get all the things so I've got no excuse to not learn the IDs

I loved the Hannah shoutout! She is the only one I have seen post about Yorkshire crustaceans.

I've seen a few now, just not a lot of repeats and Hannah's work is stunning

Ahahah you have found the block from which we removed a big amaltheus. Fabrice has it now. It is a stunning example.

Ah, so it was you who got it out. I realised it was an Amaltheus from the shape of the keel. Would love to see a pic of it!

Is a very low tide needed to go this way? I’m thinking of going on November 22nd but low tide is only 2.6 meters

A very low tide isn't needed, but definitely helps. If there are onshore winds or higher seas, a tide that small could be dangerous even at low tide. You will know pretty quickly if it's safe to progress as the major cutoff is shortly after the wreck as you head north. Still plenty that can be found before getting all the way around though.
A good map is here, that cutoff is the star between 9 and 10. earthwise.bgs.ac.uk/index.php/Lower_and_Middle_Jurassic_rocks_between_Robin_Hood%27s_Bay_and_Hawsker_Bottoms_-_an_excursion#/media/File:YGS_YORKROCK_FIG_18_01.jpg
