If you hold shift and drag your cursor down the row it prevents your pattern from bumping up or down into the row above it or below it for example when you lay out high hats in the way you did that ride cymbal.
i have shivers from this new step sequencer, it reminds me of the good old step sequencer in fruity loops, but with a serious adaption to now days, literally endless possibilities... i just imagine what sick polyrhythms it can make and with such ease..
Purrrrr. This takes me right back to the days I started using sequencers and synths back in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s but taken to a whole new level with some of the great editing and manipulating features they have. This is all very very cool. I love what they Logic team have done with this entire upgrade. Very intuitive, musical and creative additions. Bravo Logic!!
I used to use Opcode Studio Vision Pro. I've waited over 20 years for somebody to create something that properly replaced the "Pulse Edit" in Vision which was far and away my favorite way to make beats. Thank you, Apple.
Best tutorial! Was re-watching this after playing with Playbeat Lite (free) concluding Logic Step Sequencer is still more powerful and flexible, especially if you want/need more than 32 steps. Playbeat from Audiomodern kind of combines DMD and Step Sequencer into 1 tool and the presets are interesting. They also embrace the concept of separating the patterns from the sounds, but Logic has had this for many years.
This step sequencer out matches my MPC X step sequencer. I never use that one. I’ll definitely be using Logic’s. Can’t believe I’ve been sleeping on this. The world moves faster. Gotta keep up!
I was so excited to be able to keep Reason as a plugin when I switched to Logic, mainly for the sequencer players. Don't need the Drum Sequencer anymore!
Thanks for this - I’m really confused about the difference between tying notes and adjust the step rate for a single note: do they both effect the length of a note? If I want some high hats in a row to be 16th notes and some to be 8th notes which one do I use?
Great tutorial -thanks! I just wish people wouldn't use high hats (or shakers) to demonstrate things - the other instruments obscure what is being demonstrated.
I can’t find the option to create new a pattern region when I right-click. It only shows create empty MIDI region. I’m on Logic 10.3.3, was this added in a later update?
I have a question. I have an old logic production from a few years ago. The midi sequencer patterns I did are great, but I want to alter their chord tonality. How do I “snap” a midi sequencer from one chord to another? Help please
i , got a new 8 in /8 out audio interface ,so im trying to set up my reference 4 ,,, in logic I have 4 buss outs 1+2 ,3+4 .5+6 ,7+8 , ,so it looks like I ,need to put 4 reference on each buss x4. ,im useing logic , is there away so im only using one ?? thanks
PLEASE HELP How can i edit individual sounds in the step sequencer. like, I load up a drum kit designer and make a cool loop, but i want to EQ only the kick, It EQs the entire drum loop.
Anyone know if you can shift up or down the sequencer notes to the next track so you can try that exact sequence but on another sample? I tried to do that but no luck.
So I've seen several vids on the step seq. Yours is the most concise by far. But no one has even mentioned the missing elephant in the room. How do you map hardware step sequencers like Machine Jam, LaunchPad or even a Trigger Finger Pro to the actual steps? It seems that Apple put in every conceivable option to this thing except for the most basic. Or am I missing something?
I think youre missing the point of what the step sequencer is. the reason its called a "step" sequence is that you program it in non-real time fashion. if you want to use a hardware based trigger then just record into midi.
I love Logic so much I teach mixing and recording music in Logic on my channel and Logic is the best for music production cause it’s pretty much every single daw built into one daw witch is amazing and all the features that Logic has is amazing But on my channel I teach mixing and recording music and do in depth mixing and recording tutorials and I also do looping videos as well So Logic Pro x is a amazing daw and if your a Mac user and do music I would recommend Logic to anyone who has a Mac And dose music Cause with Logic you can do Mixing Recording mastering Sound design Audio engineering Video editing Every single type of music out there and every single type of music production out there you can pretty much do in Logic Now all the other daws are great and I have used them to But to me nothing beats Logic
I'm a 71 year old singer/songwriter and the new items of Logic Pro X dazzle me. I'm used to the "old" grid and I don't know what to do with those new gadgets. I think they are not necessary for ballads and that kind of music. But maybe that is a wrong idea.
Brilliant. Except you can't name the lanes on 3rd party instruments. HTF did they forget that? I want to do a template for Addictive Drums 2, and it's pretty much useless for that. I have a good Step Editor template for it. It will have to do.
lol rip the only argument fl users had...logic officially shits on every other daw now. and is the cheapest and looks the nicest, it's a no brainer really.
Chris, this channel is set to "made for kids". Because of this, new video notifications are disabled and we are unable to click the Bell icon for notifications when you post new videos. I would recommend that you remove the "Made for kids" designation in your channel settings.
Haha...one of my best friends hates logic and thinks it's garbage and tells me I'm stupid for not using FL studio (even though I do 90% live recording, which FL sucks at) and when I showed him everything the update can do, he couldn't figure out how to do it all in FL. I'd love to see a video showing the same ability in FL.
My first time in a sequencer.. took me 3 days to get through it... it was worth it.
If you hold shift and drag your cursor down the row it prevents your pattern from bumping up or down into the row above it or below it for example when you lay out high hats in the way you did that ride cymbal.

the 5 seconds you spent on note repeat alone made this tutorial worth it, thank you
also the offset bit. unreal

Bravo Logic!!
Wow, a TON of fantastic information - thank you!
this update made it Official ...logic is the number 1 DAW out there
On par with FL Studio at least, LOL
Once again, saved me countless hours!
Super helpfull as always, love your stuff, this is THE Logic Pro X channel for me.
I used to use Opcode Studio Vision Pro. I've waited over 20 years for somebody to create something that properly replaced the "Pulse Edit" in Vision which was far and away my favorite way to make beats. Thank you, Apple.

Freaking eye-opener thanks brother.
Man! That is a great demo. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for what you do Chris! Your videos have helped me SO much!

Perfect Video ! Using in my HIgh School Music Class! Super informative for new users. Awesome work!
This was really good Chris thanks so much!
Epic step sequencer tutorial. Thanks!
Another just excellent video. Thank you, Chris.
Wow, as you say, a ton of information! I have to try this out slowly while watching your video again and again. 😁
Thank you for this! 🙏👍
When I right in the tracks area, I don't get the option to 'create pattern region'. Is there any way to fix this?
Brilliant guide as always!
revolutionary! excited to see what ideas I can come up with !
Great video Chris. Thankyou. :)
Fantastic tutorial thankyou!
Awesome! Thanks for doing this one!
I was so excited to be able to keep Reason as a plugin when I switched to Logic, mainly for the sequencer players. Don't need the Drum Sequencer anymore!
Super helpful intro, thank you.
Excellent, thanks
I'm sooooo Thankful I found You. Such a Valuable Content Brother. Love from India ♥️
Have a hunt through his older vids too because there are hours of really useful content covering every aspect of Logic. Brilliant content creator.
how will you eq each drum kit then? like how will u eq compress each elements of drums etc individually???
Amazing, glad I subscribed
Great inspiring tutorial! I'm inspired to use the step sequencer now. :)
Cool. 😎
Can learn a lot from this!
Is it possible to trancepose up and down when you have a pattern you like. - Looking for more of a real time step sequencer
Thank you!
Thanks for this - I’m really confused about the difference between tying notes and adjust the step rate for a single note: do they both effect the length of a note? If I want some high hats in a row to be 16th notes and some to be 8th notes which one do I use?

Thanks man! Amazing!

There is any way to split all the different channel strips?
I have a question. I have an old logic production from a few years ago. The midi sequencer patterns I did are great, but I want to alter their chord tonality. How do I “snap” a midi sequencer from one chord to another? Help please
Awesome tutorial Harry Potter!
i , got a new 8 in /8 out audio interface ,so im trying to set up my reference 4 ,,, in logic I have 4 buss outs 1+2 ,3+4 .5+6 ,7+8 , ,so it looks like I ,need to put 4 reference on each buss x4. ,im useing logic , is there away so im only using one ?? thanks
Where did you get that 808 Flex kit from?
Can pattern length be set to something outside of 16s like a 25 beat length?
Awesome! Are the drums stocksounds from logic?
Where are your drum sounds coming from when you click in the step sequencer?
Great Tutorial, Quick Question how can you introduce a particular for say Hi Hat from you own library to an already existing step sequencer running?
brilliant Chris... thank you .
how did you switch back to your original pattern? and why we dont see you click nowhere and boom?
PLEASE HELP
How can i edit individual sounds in the step sequencer. like, I load up a drum kit designer and make a cool loop, but i want to EQ only the kick, It EQs the entire drum loop.
love it thank you Sir
Is there any way I can get more boxes in one beat? Trying to eat more nuance to the beat like 16th and 32th notes...
cool, but how do i change the pan of a single note?
Hey Chris - Any idea why pattern regions start with 12 rows, even though the DMD kit might have 16+ samples?
Great demo. Where did the soul of the music go?
Anyone know if you can shift up or down the sequencer notes to the next track so you can try that exact sequence but on another sample? I tried to do that but no luck.
Say I sequenced a beat on DMD. Now I want to go back and change the pitch of certain hits. Can I do this?
thanks a lot !
How do you take midi you played then put it in the step sequencer?
Awesome and inspiring. Now if I could just afford a new enough computer to upgrade from 10.4 :-)
Really useful, cheers!
Is there any way to separate by note pitch using step sequencer? It's not letting me do it
Is there a way to custom set a step length? Ie. 7 steps or 14, or even 17.
Can you set different pan values on different notes like you can on FL?
So I've seen several vids on the step seq. Yours is the most concise by far. But no one has even mentioned the missing elephant in the room. Is the step sequencer an add on or is it already on the program when you buy it?
Apple should pay you for being their Logic Pro ambassador
I love Logic so much I teach mixing and recording music in Logic on my channel and Logic is the best for music production cause it’s pretty much every single daw built into one daw witch is amazing and all the features that Logic has is amazing
But on my channel I teach mixing and recording music and do in depth mixing and recording tutorials and I also do looping videos as well
So Logic Pro x is a amazing daw and if your a Mac user and do music I would recommend Logic to anyone who has a Mac And dose music
Cause with Logic you can do
Mixing
Recording mastering
Sound design
Audio engineering
Video editing
Every single type of music out there and every single type of music production out there you can pretty much do in Logic
Now all the other daws are great and I have used them to
But to me nothing beats Logic
So great!!
Has anybody ever told you how similar you sound to Rob Lowe?
Can I use Maschine kits in Logic’s step sequencer
Brilliant Chris, so much to try out, gonna have some fun with this and try everything 😛
wow thank you!
WAY better than pro tools
In the words of the great and powerful Gwen Stefani: This shit is bananas
B a n a n a s!
🍌’s bra 💯💯
very good thks
Nice!
will logic pro 10.5 work with high sierra 10.13.6 on a i mac
No it won’t. You need at least Mojave.
Why not start with showing how to load the sequencer?
I'm a 71 year old singer/songwriter and the new items of Logic Pro X dazzle me. I'm used to the "old" grid and I don't know what to do with those new gadgets. I think they are not necessary for ballads and that kind of music. But maybe that is a wrong idea.
You sound like Harry Potter, but look like a Hells Angel!!!

lol rip the only argument fl users had...logic officially shits on every other daw now. and is the cheapest and looks the nicest, it's a no brainer really.
Even more no-brainer with the latest cheap M1 macbooks. So good. Logic opens in a second
Guess it had to come due to fl studio being the number 1 daw
FL is not the number 1 daw...maybe for one style of music production but logic definitely is more comprehensive.
FL is great for beginners or those unwilling to buy a mac..... I can't imagine using it for quality productions though.

This is too scary - I'm going back to ukulele
No, really, this is great. I couldn't even find the Sequencer - now I can! 0:55
Stolen from FL Studio 😂
