Ive been having so much fun with this feature. Its very fast and intuitive for me and the way it handles loops is very slick. Good little intro tutorial too but to be honest I think you are confusing people who haven’t used it yet by not concentrating more on the use of scenes (columns). The way you turn on and off loops from different scenes at the same time defeats the whole idea of scenes. If you decided you like a particular combination of loops you would make a new scene for that combination. That way when you go to commit to a song structure idea, or even while still experimenting, you play entire scenes in whatever order you like or are trying out. So a scene (column) are in effect different parts of a song, or different ideas for parts. Bridge, bridge idea 2, verse one, outro, ect. You may then want to turn off or on some different loop cells from other scenes to experiment or for live performances but the whole idea of scenes is to help give structure and organisation to your work environment. Now of course people can use this all however they want, ultimately there are no rules, but from a tutorial perspective I think the way you have dealt with it is a little confusing. Don’t get me wrong, your vids are generally super useful and very comprehensive and I’m a dedicated viewer of your channel. And PS, Really good work by the Apple Logic team.
The way Logic handles and displays loops is the best in the biz at the moment, bravo Apple Team for bringing these tools to the masses at no additional upgrade costs unless you upgrade the Mac dongle!
My only complaint is that I can't seem to automate them. It'd be nice to have a scene play once and automatically play the next scene after one time through the loop. I remember being able to do this in abelton.
Matt Grubb agreed. To be able to simply program a list of scenes in the order you want is an update I’m sure will come at some point. It seems a no brainer and very useful. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 It is a fantastic start though. I’m having so much fun with it and it’s super easy and intuitive.
@@mrgrubbage519 you can technically automate the scenes but it's a bit of a workaround. I used the IAC bus and an external instrument to send midi back into logic and assigned those to the "previous scene" and "next scene" commands in the key commands editor. Tempo is also controllable if you use the special tempo fader in the environment, however it gets a bit funky if you start automating the tempo track or use a cycle range. All in all, Live is still better in regards to tempo automation and scene automation imo.
“giving live loops a try” ? dude i’ve been praying for this feature to come! this opens up the ability to actually record your jam through your parts and make a song of it pretty easily and intuitive, this is a big day for logic users
Wonderful Tutorial!! I look forward to the entire week of learning live loops and the other features. Music is not my primary income, so I don't have much time to spend on learning new features. Having it spelled out as simple and understanding as you make it saves me time. You're my go-to guy for Logic Pro X 10.5!!
This is such a great Logic feature that's presented so well. Tons of new info presented, packed solid into a pro video. I use you as my reference. Bravo!
Best thing is you dont have to use it if you prefer using the conventional style of logic. So people don't need to get 'weirded out' as its great to have the option. Great vid. Thanks again
Thank you for a great video I love the presentation and the product I can’t wait to get it. If I can follow those guidelines in the video it would definitely help to great product.
Been waiting forever for this update, just wish it wouldn’t keep crashing on me every time I try to record into the live loop cells while the scene is playing 😪 hope they fix the bugs soon but everything else is 🔥
Amazing tutorial mate! Congratulations! It is possible when you map to trigger stop on a midi controller to let the scene or cell finish the loop instead stop immediatly? Can help how to do if it's possible?
Do you know if is possible to do hands free live looping with Logic, like in Ableton or Alk2? Programing before the record areas and tracks and effects
I'm having difficulty capturing the first recorded note which I believe is happening due to me playing it slightly early? Any tips on a way around this? Thanks for the vids btw
Hi there… First Up, THANK YOU for these xlnt tutorials. Now… Got a question for you that i have not been able to find ANYWHERE… I have a gig coming up where i want to use Live Loops BUT i also need to be able to play some tracks that run all the way through the gig from the arrangement window. My Problem is that if i select a Loop Scene it stops the track playing in the Arrangement view. This is REALLY tedious … Is there a way to protect a track from switching to the LOOPS mode?
Live loops comes with the theory that one can play their loops in variation through minimal tasks during live performances while simultaneously allowing for the recording of performances. How does this translate to a more traditional music producer who does not do live performances? Well this can be a useful tool to test a variety of sequences in orders that are easier to manipulate than the traditional shift + click or highlight region(s), copy and paste or option + click/drag selected regions. As shown in the video this can be very useful to add variety in ways one would normally not come up in the "traditional song writing within your DAWS capabilities sense" def will incorporate to future productions. Just tryna find the right work flow now
When I try and trigger loops and play back the recorded section there is gaps and it’s all over the place. I’ve tried reset prefs change bars etc and it’s the same. Driving me nuts
Hey Chris. Thanks for the introduction to Live Loops. Your videos are always so succinct and thoughtful. I have a few questions that I'm hoping you can answer. Google wasn't much help. 1. When using live loops, is it possible to play an entire track stack with only one click? For example, let's say I have a track stack of a drum machine and the individual instruments are nested beneath. Pressing play at the top level only plays that track but not all of the files underneath it. I'd like to be able to mix and match different cell stacks without having to select all of the nested instruments, if that's possible. 2. This next one is just weird. Whenever I drag a region from the Tracks Area into the Live Loops Grid, the cells copy over the region at half speed and with two instances in a row. I can go into the editor and cut the duration and tempo in half, but I'm wondering if there's a way to make it transfer correctly the first time.
Great video! I still havnt updated from Logic 10.4.4😂 Do you know if you can rrcord FROM arrange view into a cell?If I have a cinematic cue and want to put it into one or multiple cells.Currently I do Bounce in place. Thanks!
Is there a template for this new Live Loops anywhere? You know, something with all the pretty colours and arrangement stuff already sorted out? I looked at the ones provided on the Templates section in Logic and all of them are sample based only, whereas I was looking for something set up and optimized for midi instruments. I can build myself but curious if you know a source for something with Live Loops as the focus since its all so new to me. Thx
any idea why my loops are all out of time when i record them ? like , they are in time in the loop area , but when i record they appear to keep the same shape (1 bar etc.) but the loops are all different its driving me crazy
This very cool, but I’m confused; 🤨 is there any way to use the loops you’ve created to complete a finished, linear, song without having to perform the loops live? Like how do you pre-plan which loops play when? 🧐
Just drag and drop into tracks view and you can move them around like usual. The live loop capture allows you to construct the arrangement on the fly, essentially like a DJ...
Yes, Novation has announced support for a number of controllers with Logic. Here's a link. novationmusic.com/en/news/launchpad-logic-pro i don't think the newest Lauchpad Pro MK3 is supported yet, but that could be just a matter of time. That's the one with the sequencer. Great vid as always! Do you know how to drag samples in from Splice and get samples with different tempos to sync to the project tempo? I saw a video somewhere that said this was possible, but I can't seem to make it happen. I can get them to sync and play in the grid view, but when actually recording the arrangement to the timeline, the sample reverts back to its original tempo. Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!

I noticed that the color of all of your cells match your track header colors. I’m having an issue with mine. When I create a Pattern Cell, it always defaults to the same color, a sort of amber yellow? Is this happening to anyone else?
Do you have auto colour select turned on in preferences? I’d have to have a hunt to find its exact location but it’s there somewhere and may be the problem. 🤞🏻 it’s working fine for me. 🤷🏻♂️

Try it yourself if you’ve upgraded. It’s super fun and very easy to use. I think he trips himself up in this vid by not concentrating more on what Apple call scenes. You could think of each column as a part of a song, or an idea for a part, made up a a number of loops (called cells) that are in that column. You could think of each column this way. One might be intro. This lets you experiment or tinker around while recording or use it live for a lot of freedom. If you find a new combination of cells you enjoy together the easiest thing is to create a new scene (column). Once you decide to like playing your scenes on a particular order you can then record that by playing it through (while in record) and it is recorded to the corresponding tracks in the traditional track view. Hope this makes sense and helps get a handle on what’s going on.
