This guy reminds me of my Dad. I sure do miss him!! God i wish i could have spent more time with him!! I used to call in sick to work just to go out to the range all day with him. He was a world class shooter and damn good gunsmith. He loved to shoot the wrist breakers!! I miss him so much! To all the men out there that still have their father's, make the time to go be with him. You will regret it big time if you don't.
I had a S&W Model 617 six shot. My dad retired from S&W as a Master Gunsmith in the Performance Center. He did all my trigger work for me, I was very lucky. I wish I never sold that revolver, it shot awesome. I now have a S&W Model 63-5 and really like it. Dad past on 8 yrs ago and I lost my outdoor sportsman buddy. My new 10 shot revolver is the Ruger Single 10 and other than being SA it is a tac driver. Thanks for the review and update.
That's a beauty. Takes a while to save for one of those.
What? They're not that expensive

One of my favorites to shoot.. Very accurate and great to train with.
Nice little Smitty. My dad has an older 1960s Ruger Single Six Magnum 22 revolver. He used it for taking care of venomous snakes around the farm and harvesting big snappin turtles and disposing of critters that got into the chicken coop. Snappin turtle meat is really really good if ya prepare it correctly.
This is one of the nicest S&Ws I've ever seen! This just looks like fun 😂
The accuracy and reliability of this beauty never fail to impress.
the guns not bad either
The pumpkin won
😂
No, it didn't win

Smith & Wesson J frame revolvers are great for personal carry and self defense. Even loaded with 22 LR. Nobody want's to be shot with any bullets.
A slick j-frame .22 Mag is nothing to sneeze at 🇺🇸🇺🇸😎😎🤘🤘 FJB
@frankperdue6585 had to sell my 642pc to pay bills, you know, all this building back better!. I still have my 351c, 7rd .22mag. The pistol I carry when I am "not carrying." Got it for $350 new many years ago. They now are $700- $800. She's a keeper.
@@teddibear1943 holy crap that’s gotta be worth a fortune now
@frankperdue6585 got it about 8 years ago from Hinterlands. Not sure why so cheap. Maybe they made an error?
If I knew the price of them now, I would have bought 2 or 3 😁
Facts
Love my 617. Have a 4inch. Need to find a set of those grips
I bought a S&W 617 .22cal. back in the 90's when they were only a 6 shooter. Need to get in touch with S&W to see if they would convert my 6 shooter to a 10 shot. They're plenty fun to shoot. Scoped mine and lobbed'em out 100 yards. I could do that all day. Good stuff, Hickok. Thanks.
that is a real classic......please do not mess with it. Clay wish I could find one but right now we in Canada can not buy or transfer ownership of handguns.
I LOVE my Smith & Wesson revolvers! With that being said, I can say that the newer manufactured ones have LOT'S of quality control issues. I have an air lite 43C that has 3 to 4 light primer strikes out of 8 rounds. That is absolutely horrible. That's a brand new $750 pistol. That's with high quality, fresh ammo not bulk pack. However, I am also a BIG Ruger fan too. My Ruger LCR 22 (8 shot) fires EVERYTHING regardless of being bulk pack, expensive ammo, cheap ammo, or how old it is. Even 15 year old mixed bull pack in an old peanut butter jar. I wish Smith & Wesson would get their quality control in order.
Ruger has always been reliable and affordable. Damn fine gunmaker in my experience.
I've been hearing this a lot over the past year or two from people.. sad
Yeah, that's not good. You could replace the hammer spring with one that's a little more robust or add a small shim to the spring, but why should we have to do that on a brand new gun?
I like your videos, they are very instructive and entertaining. Thank you so much.
648 & 617, love them both. Thanks for another great video. 👍
Such a classic revolver, and .22 LR is just pure fun to shoot. Great video showcasing its capabilities.
Absolutely gorgeous
Awesome looking revolver. Those grips are beautiful.
A lot of great information and tips. Thanks for the great video
The grips look great!
This has to be one of my favorite revolvers of all time!
I have to agree...

Glad to be here Mr. Hickock and may I say those are some nice armory gear right there. God bless 💎🙏🏼🇺🇸😁
I love this gun; I also put dark wood Hogue grips on it. I also was struggling a bit with the blacked out stock sights, so I replaced those with fiber optics. My sister has the 8-shot J frame from S&W, which is also a great gun, a bit lighter.
I've always wanted this .22. Thank you for the video.
I have a 6 inch 617 "no dash" which means it's a 6 shooter. It's also the heaviest S&W revolver that I own, put it on my kitchen scale one day and it's 52 ounces. With that long barrel and heavy weight shooting a 22 short requires a clean sheet of paper for a target to insure every round left the barrel. Because with ear protection suitable for a neighbor with a 500 Magnum you can't hear the muzzle report so if a round squibs you need to know it immediately.
I picked up a used 6" 617 about a year ago and have been shooting the heck out of it. Apex makes an increased mass hammer that cleans up the trigger pull and helps with consistent primer strikes.
Great video as is usual! 😊 Love those 617 revolvers!
God bless all here.
I never catch a new upload I just got back into your channel I would watch you when I was younger everyday cuz I couldn’t shoot, but now I’m old enough and have my own channel haha May You be blessed with many many more years to come :)
Awesome video nice Smith and Wesson 22 thanks for sharing Hickok45
¡Gracias!
Possibly I have, Don't know for sure, I have seen hundreds and hundreds of your videos.I have been on your channel for approximately ten , yes. Yours was one of the first if not, the very first channel.I joined way back when.
Lovely looking gun love those grips
Super cool gun, beautiful handle
what a good looking revolver!
That model 617 is a fine revolver, I’ve had one for 9 years now !
I like it as much as I do my model K 17 !
I haven’t had any misfires shooting mine double action or light primer strikes , I like it a lot !
Have the 617 in 22. love it to bits!
Love revolvers at all.
Thank you for the good video
Hello Hickok45.
🤠Very nice S & W Revolver🤠
Another geat video! I have the 617 six inch version, it's nice, but out of the box it was spitting lead excessively. I had to send it back to Smith & Wesson and they cut the forcing cone a bit. Did not have that problem out of the box with my Colt King Cobra 22LR. Because of your videos I couldn't make up my mind on either one so I bought both....! Thank you!
I just bought one. Can't wait to pick it up.
“He’s from eastern Kentucky. His eye might be anywhere.” lol!
Looks awesome. I want it!
Nice practical rig.
Thanks for the S&W 617 love, I really enjoy mine. I shoot steel and bullseye with mine. (:
watching on my phone during my lunch break...
Hu
That Smith and wesson 22 shoot real good like the video.
Hermoso revólver!!!, gracias por compartirlo!!
Awesome looking revolver 🎉
Wow thats a beautiful gun
Thank you
I haven't seen all your videos, but I'm doing my damndest to get caught up, so I really do appreciate it when you repeat your tips.😊
Those East Kentucky jokes catch me by surprise everytime!
A very nice picnic revolver...
Very nice pistol!
Love you from France
Since 2000, the small key lock on the revolvers are known as Hillary locks :)
A .22, so I can't say "Do You Feel Lucky Punk?"
Now, if you had an American-180 on the other hand...
I have the six round and 10 round versions...
Absolutely LOVE EM !!!
Saw a new Hickock video and clicked immediately. 🍻
I've got one of the older versions of the 17. Beautiful revolver and fun to shoot. I had a beautiful 41,but it was so picky about ammo I couldn't enjoy it. I traded it for a model 19 that is like new. Either way, the old S&W's are my favorite revolvers.
I like Widener's too! bought some 44 mag from them a lil bit ago good stuff!
Great vid i have the same pistol works fantastic 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That is one sharp looking revolver. Love the round butts.
That light hammer strike , used to have that problem with my Python.
I debated between the 617 and the Taurus 94.... I really liked both of them and was unable to decide when found a good deal on a 94.... now this video comes out!!! NOW I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER FIREARM... I'm going to have to quit watching Hickok45, it costs way too much money to watch these videos....😁
Yes Mr. Hickok, I agree. Their is something about a revolver, I think they have way more style and a lot more fun than an auto. Also, when at the range the cylinder is way easier to load than a .22 magazine.....
I love my model 18 in blue.😅
Love it. I have one and it is super sweet
Very very appealing pistol !!! Love the big long grip too. I can't shoot small grip pistols. My hands are too big. But want a 22 pistol.. Glock 22 is too small. This is better.
Saw him in deliverance 😂😂
Would love to see a 617 vs GP100 vs King Cobra comparison video (all are 10-shot .22 revolvers)
Awesome!
Just got mine back from S&W , after about 4 weeks of Service. The receipt says they repaired the yoke and replaced the firing pin. Stay tuned for how that went. From new it had light strikes in single action but also in double. hopefully, they corrected it. Overall I love this gun.
.22’s are funny things…you buy one, then another, then one here and one there, that one because it’s a little wierd and this one because it’s a little funky and so on it goes. Kinda like a bad habit, they are. Next thing you know you went from that one you had since you were a kid to a baker’s dozen. I’m pleased to say I have a 6” blued 617, the 10 round version, not a whole lot of those around. It’s a fine shooter. I’m 5’10” but have hands more typical of someone 6’2” to 6’4,” consequently when I finally landed the .22LR King Cobra 4” not too long ago it feels rather undersized in my hands and I expect it would very likely benefit from some custom oversized grips like Herrett’s or Hogues, although the OEM rubber grips are plenty nice. One of these days I hope to get the Ruger for the trifecta, but in any case looking forward to your 3 way review!
“I’m gonna snap it, I know somebody’s gonna have a heart attack, but…” 😂
I love him for stuff like that. If it’s yours, do whatever you’re comfortable with. That being said, it really is so cringe when customers dry fire, rim fire revolvers in the store!😬
How else do you test the trigger feel when shopping around. I thought the same but realized if anything breaks manufactures are pretty forgiving for warranties and usually the guns they buy are new in the back not the ones out on the floor. (I worked at the gun counter for 3 years)
Main spring tightened up a touch I owned sw 28 highway patrolman similar problem
Yep, my 5" 686+Pro had similar problem.Tightened the mainspring and has been 100%. Slightly heavier trigger, but to be expected.
light strike, what a bumma, i have never seen that before
Nice shootin' I have a first year Lew Horton 617 no dash combat stocks unfired not even a turn line. Box and papers. I just can't bring myself to shoot it, but I'm working on it.
I love revolver
I watch a lot of them
Rimfire primers are tricky when they are being manufactured, Settling one side more than desired cause misfires.
Like the white front sight dot
I had a brick of Winchester 22lr in my basement that sat in 8' of seawater because of Sandy. Didn't touch the brick for 5 years. When I finally looked at it the individual paper boxes were fused together and ripping apart and the copper heads were green. Ran all 500 rounds flawlessly. In what? The reliable overbuilt S&W 617.
Thanks for all you do, both of you!
(not a bot, just a fan!)
Whoever tried the Czech pistol was very surprised by its stable accuracy due to two main factors: weight and small bullets
Have the 6 inch version it's way overbuilt for a 22lr.it's way to much fun to shoot.
JÓIA DE ARMA 👏👏👏👏👏
Greetings Hickok from Apacheria in the Arizona Territories Ahe'hye'e
My wrists feel better already!😃
I had some 3006 ammo that sat out in the shed until the box fell apart. And it shot fifty years later like it was new.
Very nice Revolver ❤ Thank you for this Video, passen auch 22 Magnum?
The Eastern Kentucky Bison is a peculiar herd...lol.
Damn
Badass
buffalo from east kentucky !!
It happened in the old UK, when cops got bigger guns, as soon as the people were, largely, disarmed
My wife bought me a 617 last year for my birthday and it turned out to be one of my favorite 22LRs! I bought the Speed Beez speed loader (plus 100rd box) and it definitely adds to the fun.
Вы очень классный дядька!!!!!!
