- Short trails matter! Short trails need love, too! Accompany me on a visit to the town of Belton, SC. It's a community steeped in railroad lore and tennis history. And the Bubble Gum Rail Trail is "the little trail that could."
Thanks for coming to Belton. We love our small town and the Rail trail. Thanks for this beautiful review.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day in Belton. Nice place.
I like to know the length of the trail, so I can understand the scale of your experience on the trail. I also like to classify the trails as "Day trips", or "multi day tours", and we enjoy both.
Wow! I grew up Honea Path. Never expected to see a bike trail in Belton. Thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
For my wife and I , 2 miles one way and 2 miles back is a nice long walk . On a bike it’s a short trip . Who cares , as long as you get out and enjoy the fresh air , right ?
Yep!
Great video! You're a hoot! We will be sure to check out the Bubble Gum Rail Trail after riding the Doodle Trail in Easley. Maybe one day there will be a massive extension to both and you can name it?
Ha! Yes...connect the 2 trails and call it the Bubble Gum Doodle Greenway or something... 😆
Looks like a nice trail. When I'm in town I would definitely ride it. Thanks for sharing history too.
They can always extend the trail when the funding comes in. Yes, short trails matter because some areas don't have ANY trails!
Fine! Short trails matter. The reason why people's first question is about length, is because NO ONE is going to plan a trip out of town for a bike tour that is 6 miles long! My wife and I don't camp, so the two single most important things I look at when considering a rail trail are: 1) can you get between 25-45 miles of riding in, and 2) are there accommodations, restaurants, brewpubs, and things to do, etc. If you are traveling to a single destination, does it's greenways offer a decent days riding? If you are starting in one town and riding to another, whether it is a two day up and back, or a 4, 6, or 8, are stopping points available where you can get a room, a meal, and a cold one? I imagine even you, (a lover of short trails,) would never spend 5 or 6 hours in a car to ride 7 miles on a greenway. There are reasons why such things as length, surfaces, elevation changes, etc. are important to people who watch your videos.
Short, long, in-between...I like 'em all. 🙂
I agree with the previous poster. I'll travel to an area if they have one long or several small trails I can check out but I'm not going to ride 3 hours and 120 miles to ride one 2 mile trail. We have some nice trails in Ohio to come check out if you don't mind the distance to a trail.@@joyfultrails
Correct. I get to spend one day a week with my wife, we will drive a couple of hours to ride our bikes but our cutoff is no less than a trail 10 miles one way with at least one bathroom facilities. Restaurants and shops are a plus. We enjoy visiting new communities and spending a little money there to help support and bolster the riding and hiking culture. Ride on dudes and dudets!
I love how you give a little history of the towns these trails are in! Another well done video. Thank you for the work you do, sir. I invite you to another short trail, the Shot Pouch trail in my home town, Sumter. Brand new! Starts at Dillon Park but ends at beautiful Swan Lake.
Thanks, man. I will have to check that one out!
The Mercantile has closed its doors now!
Oh, no!!!
SIZE OF THE TRAIL DON'T MATTER TO ME AS LONG ITS SMOOTH AND I GOT MY SKATES AND ENOUGH BATTERY OR A PLACE TO CHARGE IT ONLY WAY I WANT ❤ FOR THIS OLD HEART OF MINE😂
With the onset of e bikes with their quest for bigger batteries for longer range, I am afraid that shorter trails are gonna be avoided by these e bikers, and that is a shame, cause some of them are really nice.
If I’m going to load up and drive two hours it has to be a long trail.
I respect that. But I drove 5 1/2 hours to ride a 4 mile trail over the weekend. Crazy! 🤪
And we appreciate your efforts to put these videos together.
Size dose matter people travel long distance r
For a short trail ?
Beautiful town. I could never understand why trails like this are so short?
I think one reason is bike culture is not strong in the South compared to many other states that have rail trail greenways, 25,50, 100+ miles long.
I am east of Charlotte NC and really would love to find a trail that I could ride 60+ miles on.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴
60! I don’t know of any that long near Charlotte.
@@joyfultrails None that I have found near here. Closest actual greenway/rail trail that are 100+ miles are in New England.
Thank you for your excellent videos.
May God bless you!🚴🙏🙏🙏
Great Video.. Interesting Town.. I do have a formula.. if I drive 2 hours 🚐 I like to bike 🚴♂️ an hour.. keep them coming 🎥😎
That makes sense!
I do prefer a Trail be at least Seven miles longs. Length does matter. The Cowpens Battleground Trail is Three Miles long and in a circle. Takes about 30 minutes to complete. I'll do three laps, get bored and go home or ride up to The Thermal Belt.
It looks nice , But unless I'm in that area, I'm not gonna drive nearly two an a half hours for less than two mile trail. But you never know.
I get that. But I met a guy today who said he won’t mess with a trail that’s less than 20 miles long! I was, like, “What?!” 😬
Length matters.
If I only rode my bike to measure time/speed/distance/etc...I would probably just stop riding.
Nice looking trail. You nee a helmet.
No, I don't Not on a completely flat, smooth trail. Besides, that's my business.
It's your brain.@@joyfultrails
