My daughter called me yesterday and said she was listening to the best voice actor ever reading Treasure Island and it wasn’t Greg Wagland.I asked who it was. She said his name is Magpie. 😂
Ha! I could change my name I suppose?
Lol! Awesome!
Sounds like the name of a member of some sort of New York mafia organization 😆

After an exhausting and frustrating morning dealing with contractors and finally finishing my delayed errand I can't tell you how wonderful it was to plop down, turn on UA-cam and see another reading from you. You have restored my day! and saved my weekend! I really enjoy Conan Doyle non-Sherlock stories and you do such a wonderful reading of them. Thank you so much.
Bloomin' contractors! Thanks again, Angela, for your support.
I have to say that in my opinion, Greg Wagland is simply the best Sherlock narrator ever. I have listened over and over to all his readings, and in some cases, he was my only resort to falling asleep whilst he took me back to an incredibly clever fictional past. Another thing, the painting accompanying this story 'The Black Doctor', has been so effective at time travel, that I've actually had dreams whilst asleep, and wandered these streets of the Liverpool docks at night, and visited a lot of the orange lit establishments. It has made me want to research and purchase a print of this outstanding painting by John Atkinson Grimshaw. Thank you Greg, and thank you Magpie Audio for the timeless treasures you have bestowed upon us, again and again.
A good story superbly read, with an equally exquisite image, can be so much more compelling than a multi-million dollar Hollywood blockbuster. So powerful! Wow.
Very kind. Grimshaw is an extraordinary talent.
Painting by the brilliant John Atkinson Grimshaw.
My favourite artist, captures the reflecting light on wet cobblestone perfectly.
Thanks so much. I looked at the picture and asked myself the name of the painting. I have a feeling it is near Wapping Docks, then I thought it is obviously a Grimshaw. Looked him up in Wiki. but could not see that particular painting. I know I tracked the name of that painting when it was used on another Magpie Audio item.
The level of skill in this painting is amazing. I just want to jump in the painting and drink a cup of tea while walking the sidewalk.
Thank you for the fact. It is a magical work.

Mr Wagland has a heavenly narrating voice and perfect diction.
He would make any writing a delight to listen to. THANK you.

Oh hot dayam. He returns! Hope all is well with you Greg. I shall be saving this for Mondays work. Thank you!
All well! Hope you're doing ok, too, Sunstone? Cheers!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio All good here too! Take care!
Hooray, a new story! What a treat!
It's not a bad tale, but...
Painting is from J A Grimshaw and is titled Liverpool from Wapping.
Yes! I love the lights in the shop windows.
Thank you for identifying it!
Thank you! I love this painting.
The 19th century tales are something special that rarely can be duplicated by today's authors.
Very true, Russ. We are going down the other side of the mountain in that regard, I fear!
Wonderful reading, as always by Mr. Wagland..I've said it before..his voice and inflection, could make a dissertation on warts a great listen!!
I knew my dissertation on warts might be worth narrating one day...
Seriously though, thank you so much for putting these stories together, it’s much appreciated.
When you can visualise a scene with ease and see the characters speaking their part with immediacy and emotional force then you know you're in the presence of a master narrator. We're fortunate to have such a one in Mr. Wagland. Long may he continue and prosper doing so. I borrow a term used frequently at my wife's WI meeting's "The dog's bollocks"
I'd like to go to your wife's WI meetings - they sound a trifle unconventional. Cheers Nick!
Well said Nick Turner 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for another moving performance of a Sherlockless ACD story, again with such superb audio quality. What a wonderful way to unwind!
No burps or nuffink.
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Right, keep the unwinding in check... unlike on that bloke Greg's digression channel - he's got claggy hacking, and a recording booth overrun with crickets and ba-dum-tss 😒
You know it’s a well narrated story when you’ve watched it 100 times yet don’t know the ending 😴
Another one!!! It’s like Audiobook Christmas :). I quite enjoyed this story, It was relaxing to listen to, not dark or alarming like some of the other ACD stories not involving Holmes. The lost special is a good one too. Greg Wagland is certainly the best reading voice on the World Wide Web.
Glad you enjoyed it, Heather! Thank you!
The narrator sounds exactly like David Burke, the actor, who played Dr Watson in so many of Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes TV episodes. That is who I thought it was until I read intro at the top and found it was Greg Wagland. Great voice, so fitting.
Cheers Blowing.
I always find it highly suspicious when I find people lurking around the laurel bushes.
They're always up to no good!
"The gossip master" 😅 Love the colorful and preppy wit!
Thank you! Cheers!
When good writing is paired with good reading thereof....what a delight to the ear. Even comforting, soothing!
You are genuinely the only reason why my university work gets done, thank you.
Thanks Sarah. Not sure my brain's wired that way. I need complete silence if I'm studying.
No silence when you talk all the time
I think I have a new addiction to go with my cigarettes 🚬and pop🥤. I love your acting/narrating - you draw one in until they feel like a voyeur, watching the drama play out. Excellent tale to match your excellent skill.
Go easy on the pop! Thank you Waning Moon C.
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Couldn't help but laugh at the pop warning.....not gonna happen 😔😁; and the total dismissal of the cigs😆😆
ive tried to listen to this about 8 times and fall asleep each time
😆😆
Try listening while sitting upright 😉
Wonderful, thank you! No doubt Holmes would have solved this mystery before it got to the courts.
Yes, Victoria. Very swiftly.
I love this guys voice and style. This is Sherlocks voice to me now.
Thanks TD
The accents as well as the inflection in your voice adds a quality that makes these stories even more wonderful and absolutely gripping. Thank you.
Glad you like them witness514! Kind of you to say so!
Honourable mention in despatches for Glasgow Uni ❤️
Indeed. Much better than those St Andrews types.
Yippee! I missed thy voice in the last few months! I hope you were well.
Another lullaby for me to listen to as I go to sleep. I had listened to it three times, (3 nights) already but kept falling asleep. So listening again tonight so that I can finally finish the whole story. Thanks, Mr. Magpie!🤩
I should be available on prescription for insomniacs.
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio You have been but for only 4.99 a month!!!🥰🥰🥰 Can't beat that!😁
What a treat to listen to this tale. Enjoyed this thoroughly and it is a good way for me to unwind
Glad you enjoyed it, Peter!
It reminds me a little of the story 'Amy Foster' by Joseph Conrad - also on this channel.
Grace a vous, I read about Doyle's life to figure out how he got into Sherlock Holmes, and was shocked to learn that Doyle did NOT like Sherlock Holmes so much, but put his best efforts into various historic novels.
What's the thumbnail?
I love this picture, it’s so atmospheric.
Listening to stories like these helps me
We have that same picture in our sitting-room! Huge Grimshaw fans!
Great, isn't it, Ann? He loved painting bare autumn winter trees. And moonlight scenes - brilliantly.
Absolutely marvellous reading just as always! I love your voice ❤
You are so welcome Hager. Thank you for your comment!
Greg, thank you sir for your wonderful renditions of Mr. Doyle's stories. I do miss them when you take time to read other things, or when you take time off. I also miss your voice when I am obliged to take time away from the access. Well done as ususl.
Doyle was such a versatile writer, with a wide range of interests. He could work from different points of view and played well with the "how reliable is this narrator?" concept.
Yes!
Another tour de force ! Thank you, sir!
Thank YOU, for listening - and commenting, LOTSW2
Great to listen to together with the children! Inspiring, positive. ( December 2020)
Thank you again for another brilliantly read story. Cheers!
Thanks for listening
Arthur Conan Doyle is so underrated.
Underrated? One of rthe great. English writers. Created one of the most famous characters in English literature...!!
@@vincentanguoni8938 -- Sir Arthur Conon Doyle was a Scotsman, not an Englishman.
You've been busy Greg! Thank you for yet another outstanding reading. This was a new ACD for me. So, a double treat on a Saturday night. Peace! ✌
Cheers, Jeff. So busy I can hardly lift a pint glass to my lips! Hardly!
Thank you very much for these little-known stories*****
Glad you like them!
A superb reading of an excelent tale..many thanks.
Hidden gems, read by the perfect voice!
Thanks SR
I was unaware of this story Thank you, I loved it.
Most unusual....
It would be an error to associate this story with any Sherlock Holmes story. Conan Doyle wrote few stories which involved a court case in the story, especially the banter between Judge and Advocate. He would, of course, have known various members of the Bar , and as usual, he has written yet another great story. Excellent!
Holmes is Holmes these are these - end of....!!!!
THANK YOU SIR!!!!
Most welcome Aaron!
Thank you kindly. Greatly appreciated 🤗
Most welcome, LexieS
First ever non sherlock holmes audiobook I've listened to it I enjoyed it. Couldn't help but compare how reputations were gaurded back then and now people race to destroy their own on the internet! Btw what a beautiful painting. Mr wagland scores again
I love that painting. Who is it again?
Grimshaw
Well done! It isn't often that I come across something by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that I'm unfamiliar with. Trial scenes tend to be so tedious. You did it well. Thank you.

Would you ever consider reading some more sea fairing tales, similar to treasure island? Or any Agatha Christie stories? Your readings are an absolute blessing, thank you
Great suggestion, Heather!
Been there Done that
That was magnificent. Thanks for another mesmerising narration:)
Glad you enjoyed it, fellow Greg!

Is this a Sherlock story or a general one?
Though I'll watch(listen) it either way to respect your efforts 😊
Really love your voice acting skills man👍🏼
General one, Aditya, but it's not bad!
"TBH, Greg Wagland could read to us the newspaper, dictionary, encyclopedia or even the Bible it wouldn't really matter because he would make it sound as interesting as any ACD novel... Thanks Greg, great to hear a fresh reading from you m8ty, thanks from Melbourne....
"It's never twins, Watson!"
Nice!!!!!
Another winner by Sir ACD and Mr. Greg soon to be knighted Wagland.
Yes. It's imminent, I understand from the Palace.
was waiting. thnx.

Well said.
Very satisfying melodrama mystery.
Excellent narration of an intriguing story, thank you.
The great writer and wonderfull reader.
Thanks Lorenz.
I also like the cover illustration / thumb. It illustrates how dull the lighting was in those days. Looks like a Grimshaw, is it?
Bring back Grimshaw lighting! (It is he!)

That picture is wonderful, what is it?aha I have just seen the comment earlier!
It's a painting by John Atkinson Grimshaw, a Victorian-era painter. I'm a big fan of his work.
Thanks Greg as always
Cheers, Dave!
Yaaaay new content! Thanks!
Hope you enjoy!
Fantastic, your voice is magical, I subbed immediately, I listened to all of the sherlock stories
Thanks, Moshe. Appreciated!
It could have been adapted where the young woman sought the assistance of Holmes.
Ben Kingsley would have made a great Dr. Larner, and played his evil twin!
Indeed! .. And rather than the doctor giving out all the details, it would be Holmes discovering them. And noticing suttle discrepancies or difference in twins appearance...
What I meant to add was that although this story certainly has links to “The valley of Fear”, is is unusual in the way C.D uses his knowledge of the way that a Court examination works.
Wonderfully read!! I sincerely hope you'll consider Edgar Allen Poe's works. You'd be amazing.
Great suggestion! Thanks APH17 - I'll think about that!
Thank you for the up!
No problem!
superb story ! thank you
Thanks for listening Free Dnb
OMG! As far as I am aware *no one* has done a reading of "When the World Screamed", it would be great if you could do one. Thanks for these great readings. Cheers!
