I've got the same unit but i upgraded the RAM to 64gb and am running TrueNAS with 6x8TBs in a ZFS2 pool. No added NVMes currently as honestly not really needed with my workflow since TrueNAS prefers more RAM and uses that for caching, etc. That said i purchased a PCIe to NVMe adapter for the extra PCIe slot in the future since I believe that one of the accessible onboard NVMes is actually a PCIe Gen3x2 and the other is a Gen4x4. Eventually I plan on installing 2x4TB NVMes: one in the PCIe adapter and the other in the faster onboard slot while im using the 3x2 slot for the TrueNAS NVMe (I left UGREENs installed so i can always boot it later and check out any updates, etc)

Nice, that's a very good configuration. I've also ordered 64GB RAM, but haven't received it yet. I'm planning to install something similar. I haven't decided on the PCI card yet. Sometimes I think I'll install a small GPU card, and other times I consider one for NVMe SSDs. But we'll see. I believe the accessible onboard NVMe slots are PCIe Gen 4 x4. Here's a post about it on Reddit, you can take a look: www.reddit.com/r/UgreenNASync/comments/1dgu0rs/help_identifying_m2_pcie_gen_for_dxp6800_pro/
I also plan to install TrueNAS soon, but I want to start with UGOS and test it thoroughly to understand the system's weaknesses and maybe contribute to improving the software by providing feedback to Ugreen. I will also change my fans soon and maybe use a few tricks to make my NAS a bit quieter. Unfortunately, 6 pieces of 8TB IronWolf drives are not very quiet. :(
      Thanks for your comment :)

@@3Techreviewer The slots are both Gen4x4 however one of the slots is actually downgraded to Gen3x2 speeds. NAS Compares and ElectronicsWizardry confirmed this. Its actually in that thread you linked just a few responses down, which is why im using that slot for a TrueNAS boot drive. :)
And good idea with making it quieter, i find the vibrations the worst.. although when the drive heads seek it can get a little noisey too. But i think the drive caddys could have used a little better anti vibration material.

Yes, you're right. I probably missed the comment. They need to work on vibration reduction. I find that they are a bit wobbly, so when the HDDs are running, there is quite a lot of noise. Sometimes I actually think about switching to SSDs instead of HDDs, just because of the noise. But in terms of price to storage ratio, you get more storage with HDDs compared to SSDs. Anyway, I will conduct my experiments and perform a noise test to see if there are differences before and after! :)

nice components! can you elaborate more on what this setup works best for? what type of workflow?

Hey, thanks. Yes, actually, I will be using this setup for multiple purposes. I configured it directly with RAID 5, which means I have 1 disk fault tolerance. In total, it was 48 TB, but after the RAID, it is 36 TB. I am now using it for my Plex and Jellyfin services.
I have also set up some databases for my personal applications. My RAM is unfortunately only 8 GB, but I plan to upgrade it to 64 GB because I want to run many VMs on it in the future, including an Ubuntu VM. Additionally, I will be installing paperless ngx on it to digitize my paper documents.
Overall, I use this setup as a media server, for private data such as family photos and videos, documents, VMs, and more. I also plan to upgrade the fans, and I will make a video about that.
I'm also exploring the possibilities of this system, and I'm excited to see what else I can do with it. I hope I could answer your question.

@@3Techreviewer Awesome details here. I much appreciate. So I have a question: If i want to order a similar setup for my Ugreen NAS, is it better to order 2x 500gb Samsung 980 Nvme, instead of the 1x TB and leave a nvme slot empty? Also, can I order just two Ironwolfs 8TB, and add the other two ports later on down the line? since i dont need that much storage yet. Let me know please.

I bought an extra 2 pieces of 500 GB because I also wanted to configure the NVMe SSDs in RAID. Of course, you can use just one piece, but then without RAID. It really depends on what you want to do with it. You can also use the NVMes as additional storage space or configure them for caching.
Later on, you can use them for Docker, ensuring it runs faster. But as I said, it depends on what you really need. Some people go directly with a 1 TB piece because it is usually cheaper than two pieces of 500 GB.
Yes, you can do that; you can always expand your storage. If it’s not displayed directly, you can set it up in the BIOS. But that should not be a problem, based on my experience.
(Note: If you add new HDDs and your RAID synchronization is running, it might happen that your newly added storage is not displayed. But that should also not be a problem.)

@@3Techreviewer fair enough, so i think i will go for the 1 TB option for nvme cause i do not need RAID there, but what about the HDDs, if i order 2 x Ironwolfs 8TB and set them up with RAID, and then later on in the year order two more, can I have just the first two HDDs that I set up for RAID remain the way they are and the later two use them just as basic storage for files, without backing them up as the firs two HDDs? will the NAS see the other two drives i will add in the future as available drives for additional storage next to the two RAIDed HDDs?

Hmm, that's a very good question. Normally, if you have a RAID configuration and later want to add new HDDs and change the RAID configuration, everything will be erased because you're altering the RAID array. But in your case, I assume you don't want to change the RAID configuration. I think it should work, but I'm not entirely sure. I will forward your question to Ugreen, and as soon as I have an answer, I'll let you know.
