    Just a heads up, these were NOT 10gig speeds. It was only 1gig speeds. Realized it was plugged in to a 1gig port after the fact. Planning to do an updated video once the NAS is fully setup with the drives I ordered!

    Nice to see a video that's more personal than promoted. I've the 6-bay one selected. But I doubt I'll be able to populate all 6 when I set it up. And I can totally relate with regards to all those external storages piling up. I've several of them and it's really eating into the available USB ports. Hoping that with the NAS I can finally clear everything up and disconnect the drives. It'll be a total relief not having to deal with several of them.

    I'm glad you did this video. I was looking at getting the tiny one that's exclusively M.2 NVMEs for traveling and redundancy. I already have the QNAP TVSH1288x for my home NAS setup and i edit directly off of it. This is totally going to change your world. The best part is that you can run autobackup from the NAS to google drive for extra redundancy

      Nice! I can't wait to finish it once those other drives show up. It's just one of those things I've never got around to. Already a hugeeeeee game changer for my workflow and storage setup. I'll have to look in to the auto backup as well to Google drive. Or maybe even look more in to the cloud service Ugreen offers and make an update video

      @@KevinLe I am new to all of this and looking to be able to edit off this NAS as well. What would I have to do if I wasn't editing while sitting at my desk. I sometimes travel and edit while not in my office. Would I have to transfer the library I am editing from in the NAS to an external SSD to take with me?

      I was thinking about the NVMe one as well but I already have four NVMe slots on my motherboard and the storage is super expensive. I have about 12 terabytes in NVMe drives and I fill them up in about 3 months shooting intra frame 4K on my Canon. I definitely need a better process but that is what I got for now. The QNAP does sound interesting especially if you can actually edit right off of it. How can kidnap be fast enough to edit off of? It is supplemented with SSD and spinning hard drives as well right?

      I'm going to make an updated video going a bit more in depth. I was a bit rushed to make this and wanted to make sure I set it up correctly so it'll last, hopefully, the rest of my life lol. This might be a dumb question....I am a youtube video editor and I do all of my editing off T7 SSD's. I would have to continue to edit off these T7's which I fill up fairly regularly because the videos I edit are for the same client and I use footage and different graphics on each video I edit. I am finding it difficult to move from SSD to SSD once one is filled. I feel like I have to rebuild a bunch of stuff when I start fresh. Will having a NAS help with this at all and if so how would I go about using this to help with my issue. If any of that even makes sense haha! Thanks for this video! I am stuck between ordering this model in the video and the 6 bay.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro
      @DustinArmstrongPro  3 місяці тому +2

      Yes it would help. What I'm essentially going to do (I ran out of time before making this video waiting on drives) is install a NVMe drive in the NAS which I will use to edit off of. Then have the NAS automatically back up the NVMe to the HDD bays so when I'm done with a project, I can delete it from the SSD because it's already backed up. I'm going to do an updated video soon where I will do this and test it to make sure it works

    • @WonderWanderUSA
      @WonderWanderUSA 3 місяці тому

      @@DustinArmstrongPro do you think the 4 bay like on your video is enough with the NVMe installed or should I opt for the 6 bay? Also, do you have any recommendations for NVMe’s for this?

    • @DustinArmstrongPro
      @DustinArmstrongPro  3 місяці тому

      @WonderWanderUSA depends on how much data. I probably would have gone with the 6 bay if I had the choice but the 4 bay I'm going to make work for me. I just have to spend more on bigger drives. I got the WD sn850x. I've heard it's solid but guess we'll see🤷

      Take it from someone who has been in your shoes, those small, portable SSDs tend to become cumbersome if regularly maxed out. Use them to transfer footage, back up on location, all well, but at home, or office, do opt for a sizable storage with enough capacity to take you months, best case years to fill completely.
      Big plus, you can add redundancy.
      Regarding size, also again - been there done that, if you can swing it, go bigger.
      Files and footage keep coming and usually pile up before you don't need them anymore.
      When you max out a 6-bay with big drives, contemplate an archive solution, if it is necessary to still have access to footage years down the road.

      @@ajrfilm0110thanks for the reply!! Do you ever edit outside your home or office? If so do you still need to edit off the portable SSD’s? Or are you able to somehow come up with a better solution for remote editing?

    Can the USB type C port on the front plug into a Mac or PC and make the drives be seen as a removable drive? If so then I can use BackBlaze to do a cloud backup of this NAS.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro
      @DustinArmstrongPro  3 місяці тому +3

      When I tested it, it didn't seem to work, but it's possible the other ports will make it possible to be seen that way or I had something set up incorrectly. I'm planning to do a follow up video going a bit more in depth on my setup once I receive my drives. I just ran out of time to complete this video while I was waiting for the drives.

      u cant with usb but u could setup and iscesii share BUT the whole point of a nas is to not need to do anything on your pc itself , there are many ways to do backblaze backup from the nas it self, (either with options the system offers itself or with as backblaze sync docker service ) , if all u want is just a big storage box with redundancy then look for a DAS , would be alot cheaper to buy and run
      altho NAS has alot more to offer

    just use your old computer as nas , if you had good computer most of them will have 1 or 2 pci e for network or sata card , , and 4 -6 sata drives plugs on board , and cpu will be powerful enough for serving data , can iven have plex or backup software running , or can iven add a gpu to make it a rendering/transcoding box , or add video input and use it as streming box , ther is so much more you can do with a computer than with a nas

    So this very aggressive promotion of this NAS is like the promotion videos and sponsored by Anker with their Bluetooth speaker Soundcore X600, which, in the end, is not as reliable as you think it is. I always prefer to see product videos that are not sponsored; those are the real deal; even if you tell us your opinion, it is still sponsored, and these days, aggressive promotion puts down most people who know tech in general.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro
      @DustinArmstrongPro  3 місяці тому +1

      Sure a sponsored video you should always take with a grain of salt and more as a general overview and should do more research like watching one that isn't sponsored and maybe has more experience with a NAS. But I don't think a sponsored video puts down a creator. A lot of creators would not be able to make a living making content on UA-cam without them. But it also comes down to the creator. Some are not genuine in general
