I honestly don't believe that anybody thinks MGK "paved the way". I don't know though, the only social media type app I have is UA-cam and I only use it for music and sometimes videos and crap. Anyways this isn't an old punk vs new punk thing because the only people I've ever talked to that genuinely listen to MGK are rich white girls who aren't even really into pop punk let alone hardcore. A much more accurate statement would be that "the kids" think Twenty One pilots paved the way. Those cheese curds get way more play and from all sorts of different people.

Maybe not majority of people would think MGK paved any sort of way to them, but then there's also those kids who randomly got into MGKs pop Punk stuff and thought it was the shit, then they listened to Blink, then Sum 41, then New Found Glory, Then Green Day, then Sublime and Operation Ivy, Rancid and they kept going. The Slog movie and Henry's story got me here . ..I grew up in DC and saw the early hardcore bands but somehow missed seeing Black Flag ..I did hear the Rollins Band doing Cop Killer ...Loved that...it's the anarchist in me that from an early age has not liked a lot about Cops ..yeah I know it's a dangerous job and there are times you are glad they exist ...problem is they are armed and hold your live in their hands ..if you are white , as I am , and you are polite with them when pulled over for a traffic stop ...you're chances of survival are very high ..if you're black or brown ..way different story.. . I used to challenge Cops at various protests of the Anti-War variety ..in the 1980's...asking for their badges when I saw them using excessive force ...got beat up too but nothing like what more committed protestors got... Some Cops are just fascists ...no doubt about it .......the flip side of this is , for me , when an open air drug market popped up in our Silver Spring neighborhood a few years ago and reached a fever pitch with a drive by shooting ...and there was no asking the dealer to please be cool ... we had to get the Police involved ..and it worked . Just the same , I have a fondness for all the gutsy anti-cop bands of the 1980's ..MDC..The Weirdos ..Black Flag .NWA..DK's Mudhoney ..DRI... so thanks for the posting

Mental health is a huge problem in the world. Reagan defending mental health in the 80's only exacerbated the problem. My home town of Modesto ca, in the mid 80's had lost 90% of its mental institutions, they let the folk roam the streets... they created a huge homeless pop that ended up ramping up the drug pop in my area.
