Another round of Rangers vs. Canes looks inevitable now.
Who you taking to win that one? Seems like a toss up to me. Both great special teams, great goaltending, decent everything else. Rangers maybe have a bit of a speed advantage?
@Siksdev agreed. The Rangers have shown a strong ability, all year, to play shutdown hockey. If they get up in games, it’ll be tough for Carolina to come back.

Lol, I think the refs didn't want to hear Washington complain they screwed up the game. Clearly 0-6 on the power play with Ovechkin on it is just a sign you are meant to lose (and that you lack the requisite talent to beat NYR in the first place).
@@gmaasry At this point Ovi is just a liability on the PP in this series, he gave up the puck on the SHG and made no real effort to defend, so it was like a 2 on 0 for the Rangers.
2nd PP Unit of the Caps looked more dangerous, but didn't get all that much time.
@@HDreamerNah I watch all our games, our Powerplay wouldn’t have a goal on the entire season if Ovi wasn’t out there as a scorer or distraction. Trust me it’s even more pathetic when he’s not there. We were the best Powerplay in the league after the all star break too so idk what happened. Doesn’t help that we’ve lost a defenseman in each game this series either and Carlson is racking up 35 minute games on double shifts.

For what it's worth, the Rangers had the number of your PP all season, allowing no PP-goals till game 2 of the Playoffs. So might just be a case of them knowing how to counter you perfectly.
@@HDreamer facts, yeah they have our number like no one’s business. We split the season series with them though so I thought for sure we’d still be able to score atleast. Just outplaying us big time right now.
East Coast checking in since I watched all the games tonight. As a Ranger fan it’s amazing to see how they adapt to different styles of play from run and gun, defensive battles, low event hockey, etc. They are truly versatile and will play any style you allow them to play. Shesty looked pissed about that 1st goal and it showed with his amazing saves from then on. Let’s Go Rangers!!!
Yes, they can play a slow shutdown game very well, when they’re leading. They can also play a speedy run and gun game, that’s how they’ve been getting short handed goals. Very versatile team.
Shesterkins puck handling is also excellent. It helps them a lot, helps the defencemen, helps clear pucks out of their end too. Once the Rangers get a lead, it’s a nightmare for teams to generate enough offence to get back in it.

@@OWlsfordshireLet's be fair to the Capitals and Penguins who have been pretty much the best two teams on average in hockey for about 15 years. But you're 100% right, they both need complete overhauls. Carolina and NYR seem ok in the Metro, but no one else. Time for a rebuild!
That's the problem, they are essentially just in maintenance mode. Fans will keep buying tickets to see the aging stars, but they aren't competitive teams. On top of that you have THREE teams below them in the division. The only team outside of the top 2 that is above them is the Islanders, who consistently use their welfare ticket to the playoffs to 💩 the bed.
I love how first thing I do when I wake up at 4 something in the morning is go watch all the reviews

Remember the Caps blew it up and were sellers at the deadline and yet somehow fluked their way into the playoffs because the Pens and Flyers fell off at the end.
The caps also fell off at the end as well, let's not pretend that the caps are not also the caps were not in the driver's seat for the playoff spot

I was expecting the Caps to be bottom 10 in the standing, so I am not disappointed if they lose in 4. I just wish Sandin and Jensen were playing.
Welp. I really thought the Capitals would be less pathetic this postseason. Not taking anything away from NYR who are playing great, but wow the Caps are pretty hopeless. I still expect them to win game 4 just because they have to play better at some point, but looks like NYR in 5, which is faster than my predicted NYR in 6. If they somehow sweep the Capitals, I will definitely admit I was wrong and apologize to the folks on this channel who were saying "Rangers in 4" ... which seemed crazy to me then, but not so much now. Good on the Rangers -- maybe they can make a deep run this time. It's been a while coming. Rooting for them in the East this year (and Vancouver in the west fwiw).
My hope is Rangers vs Van or the Rangers vs Avs the regular season games for both West teams were really fun especially the Avs those games were amazing.
I figured 4 or 5 games. Watched the Rangers all year, they are a beast of a team, well crafted. No one should be surprised with the Presidents trophy winner sweeping a second wildcard.

i mean rangers look legit. panarin has been pointless the last 2 games but it hasnt mattered. other guys are stepping up......which is what they lacked last year. apparently chytil is ready to return too

You would think that along the way someone would have taught Rempe how to hit. He just runs them with pure size, but he tends to bring his elbow up a lot. He needs to learn to keep that tucked or he will be racking up penalty minutes and suspensions.

Ovi was a ghost. He looked very lackluster and wasnt much of a threat.

No comment on Rempe‘s hit that most likely concussed his opponent and caused the Caps to go with five defensemen most of the way?
I thought it was a borderline hit not an out and out cheap shot and the refs got it right for once.
@@jameshannagan4256 Thought so too. For a game review, I just thought it would have been worth mentioning since the Caps were down to five D-men for a significant amount of time remaining.
Clean hit .should be non penalty .....rempe knocked the sh!t out the guy. Probably wished at that point he was doin anything else besides playing hockey. And why is wilson nagging rempe. I've never seen a guy so eager to get his ass handed to him.
@@overwatchtactical888 Did you see the same hit that I saw? TVR's head was the primary point of contact and Rempe pushed his elbow away from his body. As a father of a youth hockey player I'm angry that this hit is deemed okay. NHL DOPS has been silent and its hurting the sport of hockey. We all like good hitting but not at the price of someone's health.

I haven't really followed the Caps all that closely this season. ( Rangers fan ) I am finding myself shocked by Ovi's lack of effort. It's like he doesn't care at all. Why even play? I am sure they have some kids that aren't "chasing history" Maybe if playoff goals counted for the record I guess.

I might be misremembering, but I do believe the NHL has started a next round series while the current round is still going on if it's between two teams who got sweeps. Maybe in the mid-2000s?

We havent had a 3-0 lead in my entire history of watching (since 09-10). 2008 vs Thrashers was last 3-0 lead. Caps look really lifeless & only goal was a mistake by Igor. Still cant believe they are this efficent.
Two defensemen injured and TVR taken out the game by Rempe. Not much you can do then.

So I couldn't watch the game, but I caught the highlights and post-game later. Valequette said that Shesterkin "stole" this game. Idk if I see it that way, I agree with you 100%. It seemed almost like the Rangers were toying with the Caps a bit. Except for too many penalties, this was a professional road win.
The Rangers showed all year that they could play a defensive shutdown game. Lots of 1 goal lead, low scoring wins. They kill the clock with forechecking, cycling in the offensive zone, by shutting down entries into their defensive zone, then getting clears out of their defensive zones. They’ve beaten Carolina this year just like this, and hoping they do it throughout round 2.
Isn’t it cool that Shannon noticed? They used to have problems playing physical - not from lack of effort but they collapsed around the Diamond too much instead of looking to intercept passes back to the point.
Laviolette using the right mix of players to pester the handler and carry the play out of the zone in transition.
I'm honestly wondering if younger and more hungry teams like Detroit and Buffalo would put up more of a fight than the Caps and Islanders, who both look like they shouldn't be playoff teams, which checks out when you see the goal differential for both teams...

The Caps are the definition of a team who has no idea what they're doing in the playoffs because they don't deserve to be. Tough to watch and the Caps isn't even my number one team.
I'm tired of all these folks saying the Caps don't deserve to be in the playoffs. They play by the same rules as everyone else and made a strong push at the end of the year to get in. They may not be performing well now that they are in but they DESERVED to be in the playoffs.

I didn’t expect much from the caps, just hoping they wouldn’t get swept. Tough to win games when your special teams aren’t clicking, can’t finish, and by the end of the series you have basically 2 of your starting defensemen. Seriously. With Haman-Aktell playing for Game 4, he is literally like our 10 defenseman on the depth charts (Bear, Alexeyev, McIlrath, Iorio, Johansen, HA). I also felt like they haven’t been physical enough this series. Oh well. 5v5 has been decent. Again, it’s special teams that are killing us rn. Rangers are gonna get a wake up call against the Canes.
Can I just say how sick and tired I am though of all the crap the Capitals are getting? Detroit had 2 chances to beat Washington in the last three weeks. They lost. Flyers had an 8 game losing streak. Nobody in Pittsburgh showed up besides Crosby until it was too late and Guentzel had already been traded. Even the Caps had a 6 game losing streak in the last 3 weeks and still nobody else could muster enough points.
Go ahead and call the Caps goal soft - the studio crew at MSG had Lundqvist and Steve Valliquette - they were joking about it

How do you not discuss the Rempe hit here? THis was not a distraction, but changed the tenor of the game, especially with TVR going down.
Because it was correctly called for interference. Nothing more just unfortunate for TVR to go down as hard as he did

My thoughts are that this is not going well from a Caps perspective. Have to find a way to win game 4. Credit to the Rangers but they are playing extremely aggressive especially against the D corp of the Caps. If the Caps play the same in game 4 that they did in game 3 but this time convert some of those power plays then they will have a chance in that game. That's all we can shoot for now.

The Caps are burned out after fighting for a playoff spot for the last two months...physically and emotionally. Their defense is shredded and none of the younger players are yet up to carrying the load of scoring...Ovi looks tired I'm sad to say.

It's almost as if the Rangers play better when the other team forces them into a slow, defensive slog fest.
Seemed like a sloppy 3rd from NYR. Kinda reminds me of Game 3 Isles/Canes. This effort won't beat Carolina. Rangers need to tighten it up and 1. Not give up as many shots and 2. Not leave as many people open. Carolina will shoot from anywhere so limiting the middle of the ice is critical.

If you ever wondered it turns out the Hershey Bears are not competitive in the NHL playoffs. We’ve lost 3 defenseman to clean Rempe hits making us play every game with only 5 defenseman, so Carlsons playing 35 minutes a game. We literally have 4 starting defenseman with a combined total of like 300 career nhl games and 20 playoff games rn. Praying we can get TVR, Jensen, and Sandin back Sunday and steal one win.
I didn't think the hit last night was bad but I do remember one hit that I didn't like and i'm a Ranger fan I don't like cheap shots and don't want to see anyone get hurt, (unless the other team is just out of control).

This is a very lopsided series along with the Islanders- Carolina series. Rather had seen Islanders-Caps / Rangers- Carolina. Those matchups would had been a much closer series.

Wings prolly still lose, but probably not a sweep. They at least have some offensive threat and a little more firepower than caps have

Ovi is playing like he’s retiring after this season or he’s looking to play somewhere else next season. He is completely checked out and is just phoning it in right now.
