    📈 Did the EV sales trends in Australia and Germany match your expectations? What predictions do you have for 2024?

      I think the trend is only in its infancy. Once there is a more reasonably priced secondhand market for EVs, we will see an even bigger uptake with people getting home chargers installed.

      Agreed. Seconhand EVs are great too, both of mine have been secondhand and it's worked out great for me - same quality at a significantly lower price.👌 It's nice to hear (read) from you! 🙂

    December EV registrations will be interesting, the BYD Seal is getting a lot of interest.

      Agreed! I'm looking forward to when the data becomes available 🤩 The Seal looks interesting to me as well!

    Very interesting:
    Australia: 6 out of 10 cars from Asian car maker groups (Volvo and Polestar are now owned by the Chinese). No surprise considering the distances.
    Germany: 7 out of 10 cars from a German car maker group! No surprises as well given their loyalty to their own products. Skoda and even Cupra are just trademarks very popular towards the newer generations. I believe Cupra will grow vastly as their new models would roll out in the next years to come.

      Thanks for the nice insight! Btw, I just got a first look at the interior of ID.2 and I'm so glad they got rid of the people responsible for the previous IDs (2x CEO, 3x Head) and are going back to their roots. I'm sure the German market will appreciate that, same as me. Though I do feel they just wasted several long years completely unnecessarily. 🫤 That car could have been on the market already, but it won't be out until 2025. Too bad. Personally I don't have much faith in the Cupra, but we'll see! 🙂

      @@siasek I'm from Portugal, and so, European, and to be clear; Cupra is being a great surprise. We're starting to see some of them more or less all over the place. And, yes, ID.2 will be great the day they can put it in the streets, even though they're coming a bit late to the party. There will be the E-C3 and the R5 still on the segment when they come!...

      I haven't seen many Cupras on the streets in Czech.. maybe they're more reasonably priced in Portugal, so it makes more sense to get one. To me it was just not much bang for the buck and I did not really enjoy driving it. But of course the numbers speak for themselves and it did make it to the Top 10, so can't be all bad I guess.. or maybe that speaks to the limited selection 😄
      The e-C3 and R5 will already be on the market for a year by the time ID.2 comes out, so I'm curious to see how it'll do!

    It would have to come down to import tariffs. Two models of the BWD Seal under cut the base Tesla 3 in Australia.

      I also think something has happened because suddenly Chinese cars are not affordable in the EU. 🫤 Which is a shame, because some of them are great.

    Chinese EVs from BYD, MG and GWM are popular in both Australia and New Zealand as they the cheapest EVs we can buy. We are closer to China than Europe and here in New Zealand we have a free trade agreement with China. It seems to be that BYD vehicles are far too expensive in Europe but I don't understand exactly why.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  6 місяців тому

      The free trade agreement is wonderful! Europe is afraid of it, I think. I'm sure that's one of the reasons for the difference in price and availability. I was thinking distance as well but then I looked into it and it's "only" about 400 km closer to Australia than, for example, UK. That doesn't seem like such a big difference to me to make up such a difference in price
