  • Hertz Global Holdings has started selling electric cars from its US fleet and will reinvest in gas-powered cars. The rental giant says it wants to off load 20,000 vehicles. Hertz said in 2021 that it was buying 100,000 Tesla vehicles. Bloomberg's Craig Trudell reports.

    Once Ev's are relatively easily repairable or the battery is able to be replaced by the average owner, only then will the used EV market hold their value better. But these first proprietary iterations of these cars were driven by corporate greed and need to make them unrepairable, forcing you to have to return to the dealer and pay exorbitant prices for mundane repairs. Car manufacturers, energy companies and big oil have the technology to simplify and standardize EV's, just as was done with ICE cars, they just haven't figured out how to charge you for electricity that is becoming increasingly cheap or can be gotten for free. Hence the reason for the over-complication of the design of these cars making them wildly expensive and proprietary to repair. It's a chit-show, don't buy them.

    • @zanzikar7
      @zanzikar7 5 місяців тому

      Ummm, it's not "corporate greed" pushing these EV's, but government dictates. Huge difference. See the problem with humanity is most think our problem is "corporate greed" or "big oil" but never is the problem "big government." If people stopped and looked at the big picture of their life, they would see that it's not the "big banks" causing their problems but "big government" that uses mandates and dictates to impose rules and regulations upon the people. Like taking away gas stoves, no proof they "destroy the planet", just some rich government bureaucrats making these rules for the pleabs to follow. It's why Donald Trump is so popular, he doesn't represent "big government", he represents the people.

      @@zanzikar7 I beg to differ. In the past 8 years, government hasn't legislated much of anything due to the stalemate in congress. Legislating on our behalf is what we elect government to do. In the last 50 or so years, those we have elected have been systematically bought off by big money to serve corporate needs over the needs of the electorate. Meanwhile, many average folks have been hoodwinked by ingenuous media personalities (who are paid by big money) who's goal is to keep you distracted and pointing the finger at your neighbor, who while they may vote differently than you, are in the same predicament as yourself. While I can understand your cynicism, I do not understand your willingness to trust someone who embodies the very corrupt system in which you pretend to hate. Repeating the same mistakes of the past and expecting different results is madness.

    • @Neimfeltrite
      @Neimfeltrite 5 місяців тому

      @@zanzikar7 EV's are not going to become affordable or practical unless the electrical grid is nationalized. You can't mandate EV cars, yet throw everyone to the price gouging corporate wolves. Also, EV batteries need to be standardized to be easily replaced and compatible among a wide range of models. In other words, the batteries should be designed so they are plug-and-play, and yes the tech exists. The Federal government needs to provide real effective monetary incentives to owners of existing homes installing EV chargers, as well as mandating standardized EV charge port(s) be installed in all new structure(s). During this time of transition, insurance companies need to be forced to set up separate markets for EV coverage, so combustion vehicle owners aren't weathering the burden of EV owners' wildly expensive liabilities. Every EV manufacturer that sells a car or truck in the U.S. should be mandated to provide a detailed schematic of the internal workings of the vehicle for do-it-yourselfer's and independent mechanics. But none of this is going to happen folks, until people on the right-wing of our society rip themselves from their primitive hive mindset and start electing folks who want to solve problems.

      EV's are not popular and government mandates of anything is unamerica. It should be left up to the free market, if the American people want EV's or Petrol based vehicles, then let the people choose. According to Hertz rentals, Americans prefer gas powered vehicles over their EV's. Hertz dumped all their EV's as they are losing money on them and went back to gas powered vehicles. Ford lost 1.4 billion dollars on unsold EV's. EV's also have no to very little resale value as well. Plus, what do you do with all the dead batteries that are ending up in landfills? When it all boils down, money is the end goal and if businesses are not making money on a product, then they need to sell a product that does make them money. Plus there is a host of problems with EVs from batteries spontaneously combusting to not starting in extreme cold. Also, the EV market is heavily subsidized by the tax payer, unlike the petrol based vehicles. I am not anti EV, I am pro free market, let the people choose what they want, not the government choosing for the people. Also, this is not a "right wing" issue, it is a free market issue. There are plenty of "left wingers" that are not fond of EV's either. And I am not sure what a "right wing" is. I do know what "left wing" means; socialism, fascism, communism, nazism, and marxism. Tesla’s should be coming down in price. This follows the principle of Wright’s law as quoted from Wikipedia. The more times a task has been performed, the less time is required on each subsequent iteration. This relationship was probably first quantified in the industrial setting in 1936 by Theodore Paul Wright, an engineer at Curtiss-Wright in the United States. Wright found that every time total production doubled, the required labor time for a new product fell by 20%. This has become known as "Wright's law". Studies in other industries have yielded different percentage values (ranging from only a couple of percent up to 30%), but in most cases, the value in each industry was a constant percentage and did not vary at different scales of operation. The learning curve model posits that for each doubling of the total quantity of items produced, costs decrease by a fixed proportion. Generally, the production of any good or service shows the learning curve or experience curve effect. Each time cumulative volume doubles, value-added costs (including administration, marketing, distribution, and manufacturing) fall by a constant percentage. Tesla’s vehicles are not exempt from Wright’s Law. It is foolish for consumers (in this case, Hertz) to expect that new products to hold their values in light of new technology and the increase in production. You just have to look at TV sets. When 4K HD TV was first introduced, the cost was in the thousands. Now you, can get one under $500.

      It works for me. I own a model x , driver around 40 miles a day, plug it at home every night, it’s charged by morning, it cost me around 20 bucks a week , drives itself, drives smoother than my Range Rover and I don’t have to go to gas stations to pump gas with all those peasants

      @@Clickbait86you must have a very nice house. Be careful, your beloved EV might burn your house while you’re sleeping. DO NOT charge EV overnight without supervision. It’s a recipe for disaster.

    EV cars that sit for years without being used develop system problems. The tires lose integrity too. Old tire = freeway blow-outs. Don't buy one of these, no matter the great deal you think you're getting.

    We must understand the reason why we must move to cleaner transportation to see how it makes sense. We all must make sacrifices in the beginning to make it work. Our civilization depends on it working. What is the real reason why we must make the change? (Hint: it’s not climate change..)

    • @keepcool2330

      1st law of thermodynamics:
      Everything pollutes
      2nd law of thermodynamics:
      You can’t make nothing out of something
      3rd law of thermodynamics:
      In order for something to become clean, something else must become dirty
      No matter what we do there will always be a byproduct. We can make energy more efficient or move the byproduct to places with better collection methods but we can’t break even. And there’s a point of maximum efficiency, anything after that requires more material to create force or better material to reduce. Once we hit that maximum efficiency, everything after that is just people capitalizing on low investment margins and cheaply priced stocks of newer products like electric cars because it’s to lucrative to invest in an existing market such as oil/gas. Basically we’re going to get push from the 1% to buy electric because they all cheaply invested and need the consumer to drive up stock growth. At least that would be my plan. Lastly, soon all EV’s will have tax meters to help pay for infrastructure, which will cause all sorts of legal problems with privacy rights.

    so, not only does no one want to buy these POS EVs. no one wants to RENT them either. the car rental industry is based on getting people from point A to point B as quickly and conveniently as possible. how to waiting hours upon hours on end at charging stations make this appealing?
