    Had a D2 sitting under the bench since the ECU failed in 2013 and I bought a D4 new for £1400. to keep my workshop warm, anyhow after seeing your vid I bought a Chinese ECU and controller with remote for £20. and yesterday (January 2024) pulled the old heater out and installed the Chinese bits it fired straight up so cheers mate.

      Brilliant! I was just thinking the same. I've got an old D1 but it also needs the metal exhaust and air intake part as it's rotten.

      @waterboy8999 i dont think it'll work on the d1 as they use a different style glow plug, not ceramic its a coil and takes a lot more power.

      OK thanks, looking at the cost of a new rice burner there's really no point in messing with it.

      The d1s were ok, but they used an awful lot of power and tended to stop working quite quickly, i dont bother with them to much. Hard to repair.

      @@karldingbat this one definitely works but there's no starter relay in it and the exhaust port is very corroded. If you want it for messing around with I'll send it to you.

    Can use cheap pumps too! ....Have to take out a mortgage for a new OE pump for these and the Webasto !

    Eberspacher quality is terrible. Early Nissan LEAF cars used Eberspacher wet PTC heaters, which failed on all of them due to very very bad design. I got Eberspacher D2 diesel heater too, which most of the time spent doing nothing due to various faults. Capacitor on cool air enable terminal was shorted to ground on main PCB, which prevented it from actually being used as a heater. Main dealer was asking few hundred pounds for replacement ECU. I managed to fix original ECU. Now it locked itself due to low battery issue. And because it has Wehrle controller in it, it requires very expensive diagnostic cable to unlock it. Complete waste of time. I am getting Chinese controller and installing it to Eberspecher as shown in this video. I hope this will sort all issues as Eberspacher clearly is not interested in after sales support.

    My fan is making a High pitch sound and I can get a new complete fan assembly for £17.00 and looking at it in photos I can't see why it wouldn't fit. Someone online sells what looks like the same one ( Chinese ) but works with the Eberspacher, in the photo's it's identical to the one I spotted for £17.00. I bet eberspacher are feeling the bite from the Chinese model sales. No harm but it serves them right for overpricing.
    That's handy to know the controller and ECU works, apparently the pump does too 👍

    • @karldingbat
      @karldingbat  3 роки тому +1

      Yep pumps are interchangeable, i used both pumps and they both work fine, in fact i found the chinese pump quieter than the eberspacher pump! The only pump you should not use is the webasto water heater pumps, they look the same but the flow rate is much higher. The chinese fan assembly is bigger than the eberspacher unit so it wont fit the eberspacher casing, but not sure if the actual motor would fit or not.

      @@karldingbat That's handy to know. the one the guy is selling that apparently does fit the eberspacher is £47.00 so that may be the best option, still way cheaper than eberspacher. Looking at their 2kw smaller heater it looks the same. I have seen some larger models sold as 2kw so that may be the issue, making sure it's the smaller models parts. Who knows but even for the motor it may be worth the gamble.

      How did you go finding a new fan ?

  • @mouldykev
    @mouldykev 2 роки тому

    Hi mucka, i looked at this as i have a spare eberspacher doing nothing. Only problem that i could see was that the chinese fan has two magnets and the eberspacher one, so this would obviously throw out the controller at some point thinking that the fan is actually spinning at a different rate.
    So i intend to try to fit another magnet to the eberspacher fan and if this does not work, then just buy a chinese fan to fit on it which would obviously solve the problem.
    But great work showing this to everyone.
    All the best Kev ( yardley )

      @karldingbat  2 роки тому +2

      Yes the connector's are different, i dont think any of the Chinese connectors are the same between each different company. They use what ever they have or can get.
      Its a matter of trial and error im afraid, i would do a circuit diagram but none of the Chinese controllers have the same connection points on the board. What i did was use my original eberspacher ecu and cut the connectors off and resolder the Chinese 1s to the glow plug and fan motor, the overheat sensor need to be replaced with a Chinese 1 as the eberspacher uses 3 wires where as the Chinese only uses 2 but it still mounts onto the burner body the ssme way. Just 1 more thing, before soldering the plug to the burner motor wires you need to make sure its going in the right direction, i didnt check this the first time and ended up with exhaust coming out of the air intake and an overheating heater!!

    • @karldingbat
      @karldingbat  2 роки тому +2

      No, you can never go by cable color, i have known Chinese cables to be completely different to what is the norm i.e. red cables have been negative and black being positive, they dont have any standard color codes in China. Eberspacher though always use brown wires as being negative connection and red is positive.

    • @ev-olution8597

      @@karldingbat Eberspacher uses two overheat sensors built in one peace, that's why it got three wires. It's worth trying to measure Chinese heaters overheat sensors resistance and compare it with Eberspachers sensors resistance on two wires at the same temperature. If readings are close enough on booth sensors, then you can use Eberspacher overheat sensor too.
