What a actor, such charisma!!!!! His presence just makes the movie, how every line delivered is like he's living the role, absolutely timeless, what a phenomenal actor/human being!!!!
I can't think of another actor who had the skills that Cagney was able to do. Singing dancing, being the toughest guy in a pin striped suit. He was a one of a kind.
In 1936 millions were starving and workless and their were wars going on around the world. The pro-fascist U.S. élite that had helped to fund Hitler had tried to replace its democracy with a Nazi-style dictatorship
I totally like these Grand National crime movies, been watching them since I was a boy. Never stopped. I grew up and came of age in the greatest period of Music, Movies, & TV. There will never be days like that again. It great to be able to look back, though. LedHed Steven 🎸 🎹 🎸
Jimmy Cagney - still a mug, but a good mug this time. Really enjoyed this noirish film, with just enough of a pinch of comedy : "Open this door, or I'll break it down!! ... As soon as I finish this cigar..." Excellent. Thanks for all these great movie, BT.
James Cagney, a great actor who had a Brilliance acting with his eyes that can not see these days at all, I can not Express my feelings about him. 🙏👍👑👑👌👌❤
When I was kid, I was hooked on Cagney, and Bogart movies. Cagney was unbelievable, he was so talented, they damn near typecasted him, but he was so talented that it couldn't be done. He was great in everything he did. This movie proves it.
Used to watch the movies with my Uncle Alf over 55 years ago watching them on Tv ….brings back great memories of two great guys….Cagney and my Uncle Alf
I love these olds movies and James Cagney so much. It’s also interesting to see all the small details from this time that are different from us today. I just noticed that when someone is getting in a car, they enter by the passager door and move to the driver place. It was more easy with the car seat of this time who were just a sofa 😂!
Those were called "bench seats"; so your cutie could get as close to you as you both want! Thet went away when "Bucket Seats" took over, for 'safety' reasons.
Good movie , good story , enjoy watching any James Cagney movies . Nice to see Edward Brophy and Robert Lowery . Thank you Broken Trout , hope all is well .
Excellent actor, better person. Smart as a whip and looked after the girls on the lot. He invested money for them, real estate mostly. I met some of the ladies when they were very much older. He was hero to them. Him and Joel McCrae, they were the clever ones. They cared for the people they worked with.
THIS WAS GREAT IS WAS LIKE I WAS WATCHING MY OLD MAN / THANKS MR. CAGNEY MY OLD MAN WAS A LOT LIKE YOU IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE EVEN LOOKED ALIKE WHEN HE WAS IN THE NAVY / GREAT MOVIE
Still pushing them in the forehead. And still giving them that one sock I love it. Long long time ago when I first started watching James Cagney and he's pushing people in the forehead I started doing that to my boyfriends and my girlfriends when I'm like just get out of here get away and push him in the forehead and they're like WTF 😂😂🤣 loved those old day's.. Really needed to watch this show and have a laugh the man I was dating for 2.5 years has passed away in his sleep. All I can say is luckily I was not up there to wake up next to a dead person I don't think I would have handled it very well. 😭😭😭💔💔💔😲😲😲😲😩😩😩😢😢
Always admired Mr. Cagney. I saw this when I was a young man, many years ago. "Alright, Alright Alright" lol very funny:) The part where his partner was telling a story to the girls about being surrounded and killed by wild animals .............that was taken and used in the 1955 movie "Battle Cry" when "Spanish Joe" was drunk and blowing smoke up the rear end of two old Australian salts, just as funny in 1936 as it was in 1955. Well done my friend Semper fi
Lord they don't make movies like this anymore! Movies like this is entertainment. The stuff of today is vulgar, violent and just not as good. Well...some of them are good. I just like this old stuff. Classic.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. This is an " Old Timey " classic 30-years before I was born-!!!😳. Enjoy viewing the cars/cash registers/deli scale/phones/gas stations & gravity gas pumps & the likes of that era -!!!🤗. Realistically portrayed citizens/criminals/law enforcement officials. Enjoyed the " End " clock -!!!🤗 How imaginatively brilliant-!!!😉
I love Jimmy Cagney. Overacting, exaggerating, larger than life . . . Just a great entertainer, no matter what he appears in. I bet he had a load of fun making movies and it comes across every time I see him.
Loved him as Fleet Admiral Bull Halsey in "The Gallant Hours" (1959) a very underated Cagney masterpiece in my humble opinion. Very factual, the only artistic lisence they took was that they moved up the date of Adm.Yamamato's shoot down from April 1944' to Feb.1944'.
My greatest Cagney film is "Yankee Doodle Dandy." Absolute best :"I love America" tribute of the Cohan's. When America Was Great The First Time. I'm a Vet AND I love "That Grand Ole Flag."
"Look see, look see, look see! As long as I'm around you'll always be second best, see!" It's my best Cagney impression. It's better when you hear me saying it. Used to drive my son crazy.....hahaha.

Some gas stations in Detroit could use a good calibration. Not all pumps have the state certification. I know this personally, being a Cab driver. The meter will jump .5 cents before you even start pumping gas.
*Even those this movie was made 88 years ago, I was thoroughly entertained. That said, I was aware that crooked stores used to gyp shoppers back then, but just watching this dramatization still made me angry - long dead though the gyppers and the gypped were. Times haven't changed, just the nature of the crimes. Anyway, a wonderful glimpse into the distant past.*
Problems with sound on this Cagney movie. Looked forward to seeing this movie and whoops. Maybe fix issues so we get a chance to enjoy , thank you for the good try.
Good grief Johnny, I even pointed to the place in the taped up part of the clothes closet ceiling where the letters were hidden and you just didn’t pay me attention. You completely ignored me. 😮😮😮😮😅😅😅😅😅
The story still seems relevant. I’m guessing Johnny would find plenty to do nowadays. Although, they don’t bother with lead weights any more. They just charge more and give you less and they get away with it. Nobody does nothin. Where did all the Great Guys go?
Wasn't able to watch this video unfortunately as the sound was too poor. If this is ever rectified I'd like to view it bit how would I know if it gets done?
It has ALWAYS been in vogue to be honest especially for politicians in high places. AND, that the children of people in high places don't get off anything because their old man might even be president!
I absolutly love these movies with Cagney, but is anyone having problems hearing this movie? all other movies are fine but this one. Had to leave and not watch because of the issue.

Not the G-Men, Not the Vice Squad , Not Homicide....the Department of Weights and Measures...Love It!
I can't think of another actor who had the skills that Cagney was able to do. Singing dancing, being the toughest guy in a pin striped suit. He was a one of a kind.
Welles said he was the best screen actor ever
I love Cagney. He could do it all.
he also helped to create SAG the screen actors guild with i think clark gable. i think he was first chairman.
What an absolute exceptional snapshot of the world circa 1936...we have fallen far.
Thank you for this wonderful upload!!
I couldn't agree more.
@@dirigojewelry Almost all of us who watch these marvelous films think so much alike.Wish we could all meet!
@@renacorey5877 I know! I'll bet it would be a fun movie marathon.

I agree, three.
So good to see Jimmy Cagney playing a good guy. Enjoy this movie alot!
I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. As a " Hobo " . Whom did a stop over in a town. & assisted a gal in saving her news paper was it-???🤔.
No millions spent on special effects, expensive locations, just great acting and story. Tell me about talent today.
There is almost none.
That whole location was created in Hollywood, costing many millions
And best of all, it's NOT WOKE!
@robmclaughjr Set construction didn't cost millions in the 30s. Probably less than $50,000. A Dollar went a lot further then.
talent today? where? 🙃

The good old days when I used to watch these movies on TCM with my father rip late at night.
Cagney does it again. He has a special talent that cannot be matched.
He never wastes a second ... every moment moves the film along ...
Had a special talent

James Cagney best actor who ever stood in front of a camera or an audience.
James Cagney off the streets of NYC.. which is why most of the actors back in the day were so believable.. great artists....

James Cagney has that magnetic charisma
Wish we could let loose an army of Cagneys to take on the upsells, shrinkflation, and other "legitimate" graft that goes on these days, fists out.

Cagney was good friends with my cousin Pat O Brien.
Father Duffy Fighting 69
The funniest part of the movie is the grocery store scene about dishonest weights of butchered chickens.
"Unlock this door or I'll break it in -- as soon as I finish this cigar."
They hadn't finished breaking up all the furniture yet.
Jumbled faint sound. Couldn't hear dialogue. Forced to end. 😢Get it fixed. Would like to hav seen a Cagney oldie.
Makes you wonder about the grocery stores today?.......
Thank you so much!
I bet this film made a lot of people distrust their butchers. I wonder how the butchers felt about it.
They probably made less money the year this movie was released.
Please fix the sound on this classic gem.

Turn up the volume, please.

can you please activate the subtitles? would be easier to follow the plot for a non mother tongue. thanks
We too think they look delicious and for the actual amount of fish that went into them they're definitely on my Lent list!😊
Sound went bad. Sounds underwater. Maybe a re-upload is needed
Thanks BT.

If I were to have an old movie wish, it would be that there was one with James Cagney and William Powell together.
My great uncle Robert Gleckler is in this. From Pierre,SD to Broadway to Hollywood

"Plant both feet before you say your lines." Cagney when asked the secret to good acting
