    I’m always learning. Did not know nitrogen loss happened with the colored bark too. Thought it was only the fresh wood chips

    I am very reluctant to use leaf multch in the rose bed . Because of high levels of mold and fungus. Only when it has been seasoned to fine compost will i use it judiciously. In my paticular situations ceder multch has worked out very well for my rose display. The pungent fragrance of ceder multch might aid in insect pest repellent. This is another great informative video from the queen of the roses. Olga, Sincerely thank you for all that you do.

      I love the thought of cedar mulch scenting the yard. We all have access to different options and I love learning about them all.

    I love the natural looking mulch too. ... Olga, we have a ton of moss on our western mass property. I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that it was from not having enough lime. That would be a great topic - to lime or not to lime - be it the lawn, the vegetable garden, the flower garden... maybe there are other indicators that lime would be a good idea. Also, how long will the lime last? Should one lime every year? New England soil is very acidic, right? Lots of oaks, pines... forgive my blah, blah, blah. Just a recurring theme in my yard. Do some farmers lime every year?.. yep, i can go on & on, lol... anyway, thank you, Olga! 🌹

      Sorry, coming late here with my response. Yes, liming can be a great topic. We dedicated a whole section to using lime on lawns in our Master Gardening program. Thank you!

    Olga what is the best landscape BORDER to separate grass from mulch beds with ornamental plants? Bricks? Lumber? Blocks? Something else? Also what do you place under your border if anything? Thank you Olga have a blessed and beautiful day. Your gardening videos are so nice.

      Hm, grass is so advantageous, If you can put a deep barrier, with whatever you've got, even to the depth of 6", that will keep the grass from moving in. But the best grass stop is air, believe it or not. So, if there is a trench between grass and mulched bed, grass will not grow into air. I know, maintenance...

    Olga, does your butterfly bush sprout yet? We are in the same area and mine have no sign of leafy out. I am wondering if I should still wait😂or buy a new one.

      Hi Maggie, my butterfly bush doesn’t look very happy, don’t know why. We have unusually cold weather, that can be the case. It started leafing out but not much and some twigs are bare.

      Olga what are the best BORDERS for plants. We have some bricks we could use, and I think I see some bricks in your landscape. But you have other borders that separate the flowers from the grass. What do you recommend to minimize grass or weed invasion? Thank you so much have a blessed and beautiful day.

    Is organic cedar mulch good for roses? Does it help with insects? What is the brand of the mulch you applied?❤️

      Cedar mulch can be repugnant to bugs, I use whatever is on sale, This time it was Vigoro and Scotts.

    Oh dear! What have I done? I had a great big wash tub that I drilled holes in the bottom so I could plant in it. I dumped a bucket of wood chip mulch in the bottom to take up space as I did not want to use up all my potting soil in the big tub. I planted squash in the tub. Do you think that mulch will cause problems trying to grow my squash plant?

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  Рік тому +1

      Well, your squash will tell you. You didn't mix the mulch with the potting soil, right? Your squash can be just all right, living from the potting soil"s added fertilizer.

      @@OlgaCarmody O good! No, I did not mix the two. Just put a layer of mulch on the bottom to take up space. I have baby squash plants so it may take awhile for the roots to reach the bottom of the tub. THANK YOU, Olga!
